Andre Ayew declares himself fit for Swansea City debut against Burnley

The Ghanaian re-joined the Jack Army on January transfer deadline day after failing to make the mark at West Ham this season

Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew believes he has now recovered from a troublesome hamstring injury he sustained and ready to feature for Swansea City ahead of their Premier League game against Burnley on Saturday at the Liberty Stadium.

The 28-year-old who has been struggling with injuries recently opted to sign for the Welsh club once again after falling down the pecking order in David Moyes’ setup at West Ham.

“I have had a full week of training and feel ready but we will have to see – it will be up to the boss,” Ayew told his club’s website.

“I am excited to have this second opportunity with Swansea. I am 28 and still have a lot to give.

“The team have put together a great run in the last few weeks and I hope to help build on that with the games we have in the coming weeks.”

Swansea City are without a defeat in their previous four games played in all competitions but are struggling to beat the drop in the Premier League and Ayew insists they will achieve their target.

“You are always under pressure in life, but we have a great club with great fans,” he said.

“There are a lot of people behind our team. I am confident, but we must not be afraid to take challenges.

“We want to stay in the Premier League and as a team, we are going to do everything to make sure we achieve that,” he added.

Ayew will have the opportunity to play with his younger brother Jordan, for the first time at club side in almost five seasons, if he is selected by coach Carlos Carvalhal.

Ntow Fianko dares Ghana FA; advises Division One Clubs to kick against ¢10,000 officiating fees

Former chairman of Ghana’s Division One League board, Ntow Fianko Esq, has launched a scathing attack on Ghana Football Association insisting that they have been extorting lower tier clubs in recent times.

According to the Chiraa native, the ¢10,000 to be paid by each second-tier club as an officiating fee ahead of the new season, is outrageous since the clubs are even struggling to raise funds to run their daily activities.

“We are tired of the robbery. I entreat all the clubs in the Division One League to come together and boycott the league or kick against the ¢10,000 as officiating fee,” Fianko told Space FM.

“The FA cannot do anything against them. If the FA is serious, why would they pay an ex gratia of $1,700 to people who walk about aimlessly at the FA without doing any work and the turn to rob these poor clubs to pay money for officiating?” he quizzed.

” My club [Berekum Arsenal] don’t have tthat money to pay and I know Bofoakwa are also not ready to pay. That is what others must do. We’ll support any club who stands up to fight against this decision

“The FA went for StarTimes deal which included officiating fee but clubs never benefited and are still told to pay additional fees,” he added.

The second-tier league was expected to kickoff in the coming weeks but all activities have been halted following an injunction placed on Congress by Great Olympics last week.

Court punishes ‘irresponsible’ father in Kumasi

The Kumasi District Court Two, presided over by Madam Christiana Eyiah-Donkor, has punished a 38-year father for child non-maintenance.

Yaw Korang, a driver, has refused to provide for the upkeep of his three children and for this, he is to serve three months in prison in hard labor. He was additionally sentenced to a fine of GH¢480.00 or in default, have his jail term extended by another three months.

The court also ordered him to pay cash of GH¢3,000.00 to his ex-wife, Madam Cynthia Kwarteng Amanin for the period he failed to pay for the maintenance of the children.

Police Chief Inspector Joseph Bilson told the court that the convict and the former spouse have three children aged between six and 10 years.

Korang has failed to live up to his responsibility to the children and this was reported to the Police Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU).

The prosecution said he was invited by the unit and it was agreed that he made a monthly remittance of GH¢300.00 to take care of them but ignored doing that.

Madam Eyiah-Donkor, before handing down the punishment to him, expressed concern about the growing child neglect in the Ashanti Region and said the sentence would serve as deterrent.
