Heaven knows I tried my best, Patapaa replies VGMA board

The Agona Swedru superstar has hit back at the organisers of the awardsafter he stormed out of the auditorium

Hip-Life artiste Patapaa Amisty has suggested that he deserved to win the song of the Year award at the 2018 Ghana Music Awards night held on Saturday at the Accra International Conference Center.

The Swedru-based act saw his ‘One Corner’ song crossing boarders and becoming a global hit but he was surprisingly snubbed as he failed to win any of the categories nominated.

Brimming with confidence, Patapaa was spotted on the red carpet in a sea blue suit and promised that he will at least pick one award.

And prior to the announcement, many people believed Takin Over by Shatta Wale and the SM Militants was the only song very close to beat One Corner, however, Total Cheat was announced the eventual winner and the crowd booed that decision.

Patapaa furiously stormed out of the auditorium with his Patupa soldiers and head home very disappointed and disturbed.

According AshesGyamera.com’s sources, although the organisers of the awards admit Patapaa had the biggest of chances to clinch his first award in the VGMA, his fans didn’t vote for him massivel as expected unlike Fancy Gadam who won.

Last year, rapper Medikal suffered similar nightmares against the same Fancy Gadam, who won two awards on the night including Hip-Life Song of the Year in this edition.

2018 VGMA predictions: Who wins what tonight?

The biggest awards ceremony for musicians will be held finally on Saturday and deserving winners will be smiling, while others will be disappointed but need to gather courage and still hope for the best in future

By: Evans Gyamera-Antwi

It’s another successful year in the music industry and as usual, some hardworking musicians and other related people, will have their works finally rewarded for the efforts put in.

Without mincing words, the Ghana Music Awards is the biggest award scheme in the country amid the controversies surrounding it every time and this year’s program will be the 19th edition. The awards night is expected to be held today (April 14) at the Accra International Conference Center (AICC).

Interestingly, this will be the first time since 2014, that Shatta Wale will be making an appearance in the list of nominees following his banter with Charterhouse who happens to be the organisers of the program. In his comeback, he had six nominations and the biggest amongst them is the Artiste(s) of the Year.

However, there are other high-profile names in that category including the 90’s bad girl Ebony Reigns of blessed memories, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie and reigning champion Joe Mettle and winning won’t be that easy for the Ayoo hitmaker.

There were other musicians who had massive breakthroughs including King Promise, KiDi, Kuame Eugene, etc and many ‘underground’ artists would relish to one day obtain a portion of their luck amid their hard work.

Here, Editor-in-chief of AshesGyamera.com, presents his predictions after painstakingly going through the list and how each musician fared in the period under scrutiny, and believes the highlighted names below will be crowned winners.

Charterhouse didn’t breach any law to engage Stonebwoy for VGMA nominee jam, says Quaye

Charterhouse, organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, has fended off allegations that it engaged the services of Stonebwoy without the consent of Zylofon Media.

After Charterhouse advertised Stonebwoy as one of the acts billed to perform on the night of the Nominees Jam of the awards, reports emerged that the BET Award winner was not going to be attending the event.

This was as a result of concerns Stonebwoy’s record label, Zylofon Media had raised. The label accused Charterhouse of engaging Stonebwoy without their permission, though they had cautioned against such business deals in a communiqué released on March 13 this year.

In a letter that circulated on social media, Kwame Akuffo and Co Unlimited demanded that Charterhouse confirms to their clients (Zylofon Media) if the firm had truly engaged the services of Stonebwoy without the appropriate consent.

However, Head of Communications of Charterhouse, George Quaye on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM with Andy Dosty, insisted, the event organising firm did not err in the process of booking Stonebwoy.

At “Charterhouse, we believe we did what we believe was the right thing to do. We did not violate any regulations,” he explained.

He explained Charterhouse followed already existing procedures in getting the musician and expected that the appropriate persons in his camp would follow the other right procedures.

“If it’s an artiste you’ve worked with in times past, and you already have an existing procedure, you’ll embark on that existing procedure to do it,” George Quaye explained.

He said, even though Stonebwoy’s management had previously said he wouldn’t be available anymore, (an action believed to be as a result of the booking controversy), they later confirmed to Charterhouse, Stonebwoy will be gracing the stage this weekend in Cape Coast.

Stonebwoy reinstated to perform at VGMA nominees jam in Cape Coast

The BhimNation boss has resolved issues amicably with Zylofon Music label and is back to perform in Cape Coast

Dancehall artist Stonebwoy has mutually resolved issues regarding his performance at the VGMA nominees jam slated for March 23 at the Jubilee Park in Cape Coast, AshesGyamera can confirm.

Few days after the release of flyers for the event, letters from Zylofon Music record label insisting that they were unaware of any notification that their artist will be on the bill got people confused.

Later, it was confirmed that Charter House organisers of the show has removed Stonebwoy from the participating to avoid any legal tussle. However, Burniton Music reached an agreement with Zylofon Music after a long meeting and the two bodies reached an agreement to pave way for the artist to be back on the bill.

Stonebwoy recently had issues with Zylofon and hinted that he will cancel his contract with them since he feels unsecured.

Stonebwoy has been nominated for the VGMA Artist of the Year alongside Shatta Wale, Sarkodie and Ebony Reigns of blessed memories and Joe Mettle.

The Policeman called me a rascal which got me angry, Shatta Wale reveals

The dancehall king has opened up on what transpired between him and a certain police officer which has gone viral since Friday

African dancehall king Shatta Wale has revealed that he got angry and drove off on Friday after being stopped by a police officer because he was labelled as a rascal by the officer in the process.

In an ‘amateur’ video circulating on social media, Shatta Wale was captured having a discussion with the policeman who had stopped him along the road in East Legon but all of a sudden Shatta started throwing his hands in the air in despair and later entered his vehicle and speed off.

According to AshesGyamera‘s sources, the police stopped Shatta Wale for driving an unregistered vehicle and demanded he follows him to the next police station. However, the SM boss wanted to explain certain things regarding the vehicle to the security officer which ended up in a bizarre twist.

“It got to a point people were coming around, people don’t know the relationship I have with him so he actually used the word you these rascals and I said oh, uncle, you’re calling me rascal, that’s when I got pissed,” Shatta told Peace FM.

“I was like, let’s leave the car keys with him, he can even keep the car and drive because I love him so much.

“I don’t want the word rascal, people were coming around and I didn’t want them to hear him call me a rascal and then the next thing you see and hear, my story will be all over the media. That Policeman is no person people should get worried about because he’s my man,” he added

Shatta Wale has been nominated in the 2018 Ghana Music Awards for the first time since 2013 and he is highly rated to win the Artist of the year following hit songs like Ayoo, Takin Over, Hossana, Bulletproof, Umbrella, and Forgetti.

Shatta Wale replies Okraku Mantey; stop fooling

Dancehall king Charles Nii Armah Mensah, known in showbiz as Shatta Wale, has launched another scathing attack in response to what Mark Okraku Mantey said about him on Thursday.

Mantey, president of the Creative Arts Council, revealed that he had nothing against the SM boss but pity him, adding that he wouldn’t waste energy to call him despite the recent attacks towards him from the Shatta Movement camp.

“I don’t have anything against Shatta Wale I only pity him,” Mantey said on Hitz FM.

“I would have responded if it were Sarkodie, M.anifest or Obrafour. I would have responded because I know it is not of their making.

“I would have called Sarkodie to find out if everything is alright,” he added.

In quick response, Shatta Wale did not mince words on Twitter, after he took the man who in the past made projections about him that he will never be successful in his music career, to the cleaners again.

Prophet Afrann accuses Ebony’s former manager Bullet after her death

According to a pastor called Prophet Cosmos Walker Affran on social media, the death of the dancehall diva on Thursday has some link to her former manager Bullet.

Reports recently in the local media indicated that Ebony had parted ways with Bullet who invested $10,000 in her career and the manager revealed that it will be suicidal and can bring down the career of musician if she decides to leave his Ruftown Records.

Although, it is not clear what role Bullet played in the accident that took the life of Ebony, her friend Franky and a soldier who was a bodyguard, the pastor indicates the former manager has several answers to give after their demise.

The Cape Coast-based pastor also indicated that Ghanaians should fast three continuous days for the vice president of Ghana Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who was recently flown to London for treatment.

I would’ve stopped Ebony from travelling if she told me – Rev Owusu Bempah

Rev Owusu Bempah has disclosed that he would’ve stopped Ebony Reigns from traveling to Sunyani if she had told him of her plans.

The man of God, who revealed earlier this year that a popular musician will die before the year ends, says he had a close interactions with the deceased Dancehall diva few months ago and even advised her to seek his thought before travelling outside Accra.

According to Owusu Bempah, he stopped several trips Ebony had planned between Christmas and New Year since she would’ve had accidents during that period.

Ebony together with her friend and a soldier died wee hours of Friday, after their jeep collided with a VIP bus at Nsuta near Bechem in the Brong Ahafo region after she had gone to visit her family in Sunyani.

“I took Ebony as my daughter and always advised her. I saw that her life was short on this earth and even told her to inform me before she leaves Accra to any place and she was doing exactly that,” Bempah told After 2 FM in Bechem.

“Unfortunately, she didn’t tell me about this journey. I didn’t know anything about it until I was told she had had an accident in her way back to Kumasi. It is sad but something could’ve been done about this to preserve her life,” he added.

Ebony, 20, had a wonderful moment in 2017 after releasing hit tracks Kupe, Date your Father, Hustle, Maame Hwe and Sponsor. She was highly tipped by music connoisseurs as a favorite to win Artist of the year in the 2018 Ghana Music Awards.

Ebony, who was single and without a child before her untimely death, was expected to travel to United States in the coming days for a show.
