J.E Sarpong outlines why Milovan Rajevac will fail as Ghana coach

The veteran coach believes the Serbian will woefully fail in his second coming as Black Stars coach

Former Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak coach J.E Sarpong has insisted that Milovan Rajevac will be a total failure following his second coming as Ghana coach.

The 67-year-old signed a one-year deal on Friday with an option to extend and he was unveiled at the Ghana Football Association secretariat.

Milovan was brought on board to replace Charles Kwablah Akonnor and save the Black Stars from a poor start to the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers after picking only three points from two games.

However, Sarpong believes Milovan will fail this time although he led the Black Stars to reach the quarterfinals of the World Cup in 2010.

“He [Milovan Rajevac] can’t do anything for Ghana in his second coming,” Sarpong told Luv FM.

“He will be a failure. He is only coming to take money and go because he can’t help the country achieve success,” he added.

Milovan is expected to earn $30,000 every month which means that he will be earning $5,000 more than former coach Charles Kwablah Akonnor who was sacked a fortnight ago.

According to a research, the Serbian currently sits tenth on the list of highest paid African coaches.

Morocco head coach Vahid Halilhodzic is the highest paid African coach as he is paid almost $90,000 while Carlos Queiroz of Egypt and Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi sit in second and third place respectively.

South Africa coach Hugo Broos and Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr are also in the list as they earn $50,000 and $55,000 respectively.

Milovan, who will be assisted by Legon Cities coach Maxwell Konadu and Borrusia Dortmund assistant coach Otto Addo, will be playing his first game next month against Zimbabwe at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

He will play his first away game four days later in Harare against Zimbabwe in the return fixture.

Milovan has been tasked to qualify Ghana to the 2022 Fifa World Cup and win 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Cameroon next year.

He will earn $300,000 each if he is able to achieve any of the two targets set for him by Ghana Football Association.

VIDEO: Watch the highlights of Asante Kotoko target Steven Mukwala; the striker they may break bank to sign

The Porcupine Warriors may sign the Ugandan striker to beef up their attacking options before the new season commences in October

Asante Kotoko have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) FC striker Steven Mukwala ahead of the start of 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season, AshesGyamera.com can reveal.

The 22-year-old was close to signing for Kotoko last season during Nana Yaw Amponsah’s first year in office but things didn’t go as planned and he joined URA FC from Vipers FC. However, with Kotoko going trophyless last season and pressure mounting on the club’s top hierarchy to win Ghana Premier League, they could break the bank and sign him.

With the departure of forwards Augustine Okrah and Naby Keita, Kotoko are keen to bolster their attacking options since they currently have only Evans Adomako, Solomon Sarfo Taylor, Osman Ibrahim and Andy Kumi.

These strikers could not even score a combined twenty goals among them last season in all competitions which has raised several questions about their potency in the upcoming season.

Close sources to new coach Prosper Ogum Narteh have revealed that he is ready to work with Mukwala and has given the club the green light to begin negotiations with the player’s counsel.

Reports are wild in the local media that Mukwala will arrive in the country in the coming days to finalise negotiations and then put pen to paper with the Kumasi-based club should he pass the medical.

Mukwala, who was part of the Uganda national team squad that shared the spoils goalless against Guinea in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers, is a proven goalscorer. He banged in 13 goals after 22 games in the 2019/20 season to win the Ugandan Premier League topscorer award when on loan at Maroons FC.

Last season, he scored 14 goals after 24 matches for Uganda Rivers Authority (URA FC).

Kotoko will begin their 2021/22 season with a trip to Dawu to face Dreams FC at the Theater of Dreams before they host Bechem United at home the following weekend.

Their biggest test will be the away fixture in the Super Clash against Hearts of Oak on matchday seven at Accra Sports Stadium.

The return leg of the Super Clash has scheduled for matchday 24 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and it will be the first in almost two years since the venue was closed down in 2020 for renovations.

Ashanti Gold president Kweku Frimpong: ‘I’m innocent of match fixing allegations’

The Miners top chief insists his detractors only want to soil his name with match fixing allegations

Ashanti Gold president Dr. Kwaku Frimpong has rejected claims that he was involved in a match fixing scandal last season in Ghana Premier League.

The businessman cum medical practitioner insists a section of the people in the football circle have only decided destroy his hard earned reputation.

Although, he has been charged with three counts together with his son who happens to be the club’s chief executive officer,

“We have not done anything bad because we always beat people 4-0, 5-0 or 5-4,” Ashanti Gold president Kwaku Frimpong told BBC Sport Africa.

“We beat them five and their defender [Musah] scored two himself. I think they have to put the blame on the guy who scored himself because it’s unprecedented.

“So why do we have to blame Ashanti Gold? This is jealousy and they just want to destroy my name. I have not talked to any president or any club. We have done nothing.”

Ghana’s football association (GFA) will adjudicate the cases after requesting statements of defence, all of which are expected to have been received by Monday 27 September

“Our football has been attacked by faceless cowards,” GFA boss Okraku said last month. “It is my responsibility and that of the executive council to defend the passion of the nation.

“Everybody who has played a part [in match-fixing relating to betting] will face it.”

Kweku Frimpong and his son have submitted their defence through their lawyers and are now waiting for the final verdicts from Ghana Football Association’s disciplinary committee.

I’m begging you, don’t prosecute me – Takoradi woman confesses not pregnant

The 28-year-old Takoradi woman Josephine Mensah found a few days after reportedly going missing has pleaded with the Police not to prosecute her after confessing she was not pregnant.

She admitted to not being pregnant to Police Psychologist and health workers at Effia Nkwanta Hospital in the Western Region on Friday, Police sources have told 3newscom.

She has since been “whisked” to the Takoradi Central Police Station, the sources added.

Earlier official complaints lodged by her husband at the police station on Friday, September 17 indicated that she was heavily pregnant and had been kidnapped.

But after being found at Tolanu, a suburb of Axim, exactly five days later, she was without her supposed nine-month pregnancy.

This heightened fears about the turpitude of her alleged kidnappers in the Western Region.

The controversy took another dramatic twist as the police administration disputed claims that GHȻ3,000 ransom was paid to the alleged kidnappers.

Aide to the Western regional minister, Justice Acquah, had said the minister gave an amount of 3,000 to the police to facilitate the release of the lady.

“At the point of the payment, the mother was collaborating with the police to find the exact location of the woman. The Minister gave the money to the police to give to the kidnappers because he wanted to get to the bottom of the matter. It was an amount of GHS 3,000 given to the police through the Regional Commander. But the kidnappers initially demanded an amount of GHS 500 and increased it to a GHS 1,000”, he said in an interview.

But the police administration says it is unaware of such payments.

“Nothing of the sort came before the police here in Accra and we distance ourselves. The police administration distance itself from such matters”, Director-General, Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwesi Ofori said.

The Minister’s aide however stands by his comments. He insists the money was given to the police for the purposes of paying a ransom
