The country’s top football decision making body member has urged Ghanaians to forgive them after the shocking home defeat to Gambia on Tuesday
Ghana Football Association executive council member Nana Oduro Sarfo has asked Ghanaians especially bettors who placed their hard earned money on the Black Stars following the shocking 4-2 home defeat to Gambia in 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday.
The Black Stars went into this game on the back of a 2-0 away defeat to Côte d’Ivoire on the opening day of the qualifying matches and needed a win at all cost to boost their chances of qualifying. However, despite a goal from the spot by Ernest Appiah Nuamah and another from a free-kick by Afena Gyan were not enough to even salvage a point.
Gambia surprisingly came back from behind to score two goals in each half to further push the Black Stars to the bottom of the group.
“We plead to Ghanaians for the defeat especially the Gen-Z who lost money through betting because they placed their money on Ghana,” Oduro Sarfo told Asempa FM in an interview.
“We plead that they will forgive us. We will take it from there and move ahead. I’m saying this because people are pained. Ghanaians spent their precious time to support the team especially the Gen-Z whose bet ended up in a loss. We will make amends,” he added.
The Black Stars were billed to face Morocco in an international friendly on October 4 but the match has reportedly been cancelled due to financial reasons. As a result, the team’s next games will be a double header against Somalia in the qualifiers in November.
