Polo backs Kwesi Appiah to score full marks against South Africa & Sao Tome

The outspoken gaffer believes the Black Stars have the potential of winning the double header

Former Hearts of Oak coach Mohammed Polo says Ghana coack Kwesi Appiah will be able to meet expectations in the next international break amid concerns about lack of preparatory games.
The Black Stars will open their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers  with a game against South Africa on November 14 before they travel to face Principe and Sao Tome four days later.
On Monday, thirteen players including three goalkeepers – took part of the Black Stars’ training at the Accra Sports Stadium and a full house is expected by Tuesday evening.
“These are games that you will have to trust Kwesi Appiah to deliver,” Polo told AshesGyamera.com.
“Since the last game in the Afcon, the Black Stars are yet to play a game and that may affect them but with the quality of players and Kwesi’s experience, one can say that South Africa will fall in Cape Coast and then Sao Tome will be added to the names of casualties later.
“With six points, obviously, the pressure on the technical team will reduce and Ghanaians will gradually start loving the Black Stars again,” he added.
Ghana are hoping to book their place in the finals as they continue to search for their first major silverware since 1982.

Zachariassen won’t return to Ghana unless Kotoko assures his safety – agent

The intermediary of the Porcupine Warriors coach has insisted that his client will not be in Ghana on Friday as earlier speculated

Charles Kaoudio, agent of Asante Kotoko head coach Kjetil Zachariassen has revealed that his client will stay put in Cote d’Ivoire despite the ultimatum given to him by the club to return on Friday or else face charges.

The Norwegian tactician is yet to arrive in Ghana barely a week after Kotoko suffered a painful exit from Caf Confederation Cup following a 2-1 aggregate defeat to San Pedro and was reported to the Ivorian police service for going AWOL.

On Wednesday, it was reported that Kotoko gave the coach an order to report to duty on Friday or else they will take legal actions against him but his agent claims it is not possible to meet the deadline since there are a lot of security issues to be checked.

“I wanted to speak to Kotoko chairman Kwame Kyei because the coach told me we should deal directly with him since Nana Coker wasn’t there when he was employed. As far as I’m concerned, we are waiting for directives from the chairman and not Coker before my client will travel to Ghana and continue his job”. Kaoudio told Otec FM.

“I received a letter on my WhatsApp that my cclient should come back to Ghana and resume work on Monday but I’m waiting for a phone call because even in the letter, there was nothing about his safety amid the brouhaha. I can tell you that as soon as I hear from Kotoko that his security is granted, he will return immediately to help the club,” he added.

Ghana parliament set audacious targets to new GFA as Black Stars must win Afcon & reach World Cup semis

The legislature of the West African country has set a daunting task for the newly formed football association

Ghana’s Parliamentary Select Committee for Sports has tasked the country’s football association to end the trophy drought in the shortest possible time.

After the Black Stars won the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations, they have failed in all attempts to add to their trophy cabinet another title, reaching the semi-finals five times since 2008 and the final in 2010 and 2013.

Also, the Black Stars after qualifying to the Fifa World Cup on three consecutive occasions and reaching the quarter-finals in 2010, failed to make it to the tournament in the last edition. Kurt’s administration has been tasked to guide the team to Qatar 2022 and at least reach the semi-finals and become the first African country to achieve that feat.

Lastly, the new Ghana FA has been tasked to run a corruption free administration as well as improve the local league and make it attractive for investors.

Suame: GUTA clashes with ‘macho men’ over closure of shops

Tension is building in Suame Magazine in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, following the closure of some foreign owned spare parts shops by aggrieved members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA).

A group of well built men popularly referred to as machomen contend that GUTA has no right to lock shops of foreigners trading in the artisanal hub hence their decision to unlock all shops closed by the GUTA Suame Magazine Taskforce.

The timely intervention of the Suame Police command managed to avert possible clashes between GUTA taskforce members and the local group of machomen fighting for the interest of the Nigerian traders.

GUTA members in Ashanti region over the years have been fighting Nigerian traders particularly in Suame Magazine, Adum and Alabar for engaging in illegal retail activities contrary to ECOWAS trade rules for foreigners.

Successive and the current government’s failure to resolve the local traders’ concerns in the trade sector has compelled the GUTA members to fight for their right by locking up shops belonging to the foreigners.

Three days after closure of the shops operated by foreigners trading in spare parts among others goods by GUTA members in Kumasi in Central Business District and Suame Magazine, a group of Machomen in the morning emerged in Suame Magazine to unlock shops locked by GUTA Taskforce members.

The GUTA taskforce members again locked the shops in response creating tension and fear among the two local groups.

However, the timely intervention of police in Suame managed to calm the two groups down.

Meanwhile, the local machomen fighting for the interest of the Nigerians explained that the action of the GUTA members against the foreigners must not be entertained.

According to the group, the closure of the Nigerians spare parts shops will breed hunger among Ghanaian employees working for the foreigners as shop keepers hence their action.

‘New’ Ghana FA never appointed C.K Akonnor as Black Stars assistant coach, says Sarfo

The football association chief has denied reports that they appointed the new Black Stars assistant coach

Ghana Football Association executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo has debunked reports suggesting that they appointed C.K Akonnor as the new assistant coach of the Black Stars after assuming office on Monday.

According to Sarfo, the plan to replace Ibrahim Tanko with Akonnor was hatched by the Normalisation Committee before they left office therefore they cannot take credits or backlashes of it.

“It is never true that the new Ghana FA under the leadership  of Kurt Okraku appointed CK Akonnor as the assistant coach of the Black Stars,” Sarfo told Asempa FM.

“The plan to appoint him to assist Kwesi Appiah ahead of the Afcon qualifiers was already there before we came to office so we basically have no hand in it,” he added.

Akonnor is expected to help Kwesi Appiah in preparing a formidable side that will be able to defeat South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers holding next month.

Micky Charles criticizes GFA president Kurt Okraku on solo visit to Akufo-Addo

The outspoken football administrator has hit out at new GFA boss for showing disrespect to the executive Council following his first visit to the Flagstaff house

Techiman City City bankroller Micky Charles has insisted that it was wrong for new Ghana FA president Kurt Okraku to visit the president of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo with his friends instead of the executive Council.

On Wednesday, Okraku paid a courtesy call on Akufo-Addo at the Flagstaff to formerly introduce himself to him after he was elected by football delegates last week.

However, he was accompanied by his wife Rebecca Okraku, Ameenu Shardow, Michael Bogdan Osekre and Youth and  sports minister Isaac Asiamah without any member of the exco present.

“There is one thing I saw when the GFA president visited the Jubilee House which I believe it was wrong. I didn’t see any of the executive council members in the pictures circulating, and its not the best” Micky Charles told Asempa FM.

“Its too early for Kurt Okraku to be embarking on such official visits without the council members he is going g to work with at the FA. I don’t know why he went there without them but I think its something that is not right and shouldn’t be repeated especially at this early stages of his tenure in office,” he added.

AshesGyamera’s sources have however revealed that Okraku is hoping to make amends by planning another visit to the Flagstaff house where he will go with all the exco members.

Okraku, together with new executive Council will be in office until 2023 before a new election will be held.
