Watch Black Stars arrival & COVID-19 test procedure in Cameroon; Ghana FA prez Okraku assures Ghanaians of good performance

The Black Stars touched down in Yaounde, Cameroon on Friday night and had to undergo the mandatory COVID-19 medical check up

Ghana national team arrived in Cameroon on Friday night ahead of 2021 Africa Cup of Nations which kicks off on Sunday.

The Black Stars arrived with 27-man squad with the exception of Ajax Amsterdam youngster Kudus Mohammed who is still nursing an injury and need last minute clearance to possibly take part of the games in group stage since he will miss the game against Morocco on Monday.

The players were made to undergo the mandatory COVID-19 medical check up at the airport before they left to their hotel.

According to Ghana FA president Kurt Okraku, the Black Stars will put up a good show and make Ghanaians proud.

A group of journalists and supporters left Ghana on early Sunday morning to Cameroon to cover and support the Black Stars respectively.

A section of Gold Stars supporters were very furious following the 1-0 defeat to Hearts of Oak at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani on Saturday and believe head coach Michael Osei must be sacked.

The debutants have enjoyed a slow start to the their debut campaign in the top-flight and have lost two of their six home games this season.

A James Sewornu’s goal was all what Hearts needed to run away with a win and the results have left many supporters questioning the tactics of coach Michael Osei.

Gold Stars coach Michael Osei believes his charges deserved at least a point against Hearts of Oak in matchday twelve fixture of Ghana Premier League.

Despite dominating the Phobians in the game, a James Sewornu’s first half long range shot was all that Hearts needed to break down Gold Stars’ resilience defence.

And Osei believes it was an unfortunate result to take since his players did their best and played above themselves.

“I will not use the word disappointed but I feel for the boys, the playing body because they played very well,” Osei said after the game.

“They did their best. It was very unfortunate because this was the game we shouldn’t have lost but that’s football.

“It is a very strange game, sometimes such results happen and then you cannot understand but we have to move on and then see the next game,” he added.

Gold Stars have now lost two of their six home games this season and sit 12th on the log with 13 points, two points above safety.

They will travel to Tamale next weekend to face RTU before they host Legon Cities at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani.

The Black Stars camped in Doha, Qatar for two weeks to fine tune and played one international friendly against Algeria.

Although, the Black Stars lost the friendly game 3-0, head coach Milovan Rajevac believes it was a nice opportunity for him to access his team ahead of the tournament.

Ghana will play their first Group C game against Morocco on Monday before they lock horns with Gabon and later Comoros.

Akwasi Asante scores late consolation goal against Chelsea in Chesterfield’s heavy defeat in FA Cup

The bulky striker returned from a long injury layoff to score a consolation goal for the lower-tier side at Stamford Bridge on Saturday

Dutch-born striker of Ghanaian descent Akwasi Asante scored a consolation goal for League One side Chesterfield in their 5-1 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

After a very slow start to game, Chelsea punished the visitors as Timo Werner scored the opener by the sixth minute.

Calum Hodson-Odoi added another goal by the 18th minute before Romelu Lukaku made it 3-0 two minutes later.

Chelsea went into the break with a 4-0 advantage after Andrea Christensen capitalised on a defensive mixup to slot in from close range.

After the break, Algerian international Hakim Ziyech scored from the spot and Chelsea could’ve added more goals if only they were purposeful upfront.

Substitute Akwasi Asante who came on for Kellermann by the 66th minute, after sitting on the sidelines for six months due to injury concerns, scored a late consolation goal after goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli initially saved a shot and Asante tapped in the rebound.

Asante’s goal has made him the first non-league player to score a goal in the FA Cup against a side in the top two of the Premier League since Rocky Baptiste for Farnborough Town against Arsenal at Highbury in 2003.

The goal sent the 6,000 travelling supporters into ballistic mood amid the defeat as they celebrated having a goal against the champions of Europe and especially at Stamford Bridge.

Kelvin Yeboah joins Serie A side Genoa until 2025

The youngster has joined the Serie A struggling side in a four-year deal after an incredible performance in Austria

Italian-born striker of Ghanaian descent Kelvin Kwarteng Yeboah has joined Serie A side Genoa from Austrian club Sturm Graz on a four-year deal worth €6.5 million, the two clubs have announced.

The 21-year-old sealed the deal on Saturday after passing the club’s medical check up before putting pen to paper.

Yeboah has become the second Ghanaian to play for Genoa this season after striker Caleb Ekuban who has been sold to Konyaspor after a slow start to the season.

Yeboah was a key player for Sturm Graz as he boasts of 14 goals and eight assists in in all competitions.

He is currently the second highest scoring Italian in all leagues with 11 goals in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Yeboah, who is a nephew of former Ghana striker Tony ‘Yegola’ Yeboah, was invited by Ghana for 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers but the youngster turned down the opportunity and instead represented Italy at the Junior level since he insists that he feels more Italian than Ghanaian having stayed in Europe throughout his life.

Hearts of Oak players could not hide their joy as they celebrated in their team bus with HOT JAMA after pipping Gold Stars 1-0 on matchday twelve of Ghana Premier League at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani.

Midfielder Gladson Awako together with Larry Sumaila were very vocal, while Daniel Afriyie Barnieh who assisted James Serwornu’s goal, was the one playing the drum.

The Phobians have now moved three places up to seventh on the log with 17 points, six points behind leaders Asante Kotoko.

However, the Phobians have two outstanding games to be played against Medeama and Kotoko.

Hearts of Oak defeated Gold Stars 1-0 at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani on Saturday to end their run of poor performance in Ghana Premier League.

After sharing the spoils goalless with Bechem United last weekend, coach Samuel Boadu came under intense pressure and needed a reaction from his players.

After a slow start to the game, the Phobians had their noses in front thanks to a beautiful goal from youngster James Serwornu by the 30th minute.

The midfielder latched onto a pass from Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and powerfully sent in his long range shot beyond the reach of Gold Stars goalkeeper Ernest Kussi.

After the break, Hearts struggled to contain their hosts in midfield which forced them into bringing on midfielder Ansah Botchway for Caleb Amankwah and that worked for them.

On 75th minute, goalkeeper Richmond Ayi saved the Phobians from conceding the equaliser as denied Frank Adjei from close range.

Gold Stars had another chance by the 82nd minute through a corner kick but Hearts defence were equal to the task.

Not Kudus, Partey or Ayew brothers; C.K Akonnor reveals who will be Ghana’s best player at 2021 Afcon

The former Black Stars coach believes the highly rated youngster will take the Africa Cup of Nations by storm when given the opportunity

Former Ghana coach Charles Kwablah Akonnor has tipped youngster Abdul Fatawu Issahaku to be an instant hit at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations holding in Cameroon.

The 17-year-old has been on top form in Ghana Premier League, scoring five goals and was adjudged the Player of the Month of November.

Fatawu shot to fame last year when he helped the Black Satellites to win 2021 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.

“If you get a chance as a youngster. You should be ready. What he did with the U-20 is graduation,” Akonnor told Happy FM.

“When he came to the Black Stars, I integrated him gradually. He stands a big chance to show his talent if he gets the opportunity and I believe he will be the best among the lot,” he added.

Ghana have arrived in Cameroon after holding a two-week training session in Doha, Qatar. They will play their first game of the tournament against Morocco on Monday before facing Gabon and Comoros.
