The youngster who was also wanted by Liverpool and Bournemouth has sealed a long term deal with the Blues

Chelsea have signed English-born defender with Ghanaian descent Travis Akomeah from Watford in a reported four-year deal, AshesGyamera understands.

The 16-year-old full back, who can also play as a central defender, is among the youngsters that are highly rated as the next big things to happen in English football by pundits and connoisseurs of the game.

Akomeah was spotted at Chelsea’s facility in London on Monday and sources say he has put pen to paper and only waiting for official announcement from the club in the coming days.

Although giants Liverpool and lower tier side Bournemouth were pushing to snap the youngster but Chelsea have won the race after he reportedly fell in love with the project and growth path presented to him by the club’s technical team.

It is likely that Akomeah will join the youth team and later allowed to leave to another club on loan since he will struggle for first team action due to the presence of captain Caesar Azpilicuetta and Reece James.

However, he is expected to be promoted to the senior side next season as a replacement to César Azpilicueta Tanco whose time is almost over at the club as he will turn 33 years in 2022.

Although, Akomeah has represented England at the youth level, he is still eligible to play for Ghana at the youth and senior national team level because of his parents.
