The Black Stars skipper could not believe his eyes as he left the Baba Yara Sports Stadium after Black Stars training without some valuables
Ghana captain Andre Ayew experienced one of the shocks of his life when he was mobbed by some fans in Kumasi on Thursday after Black Stars’ last training ahead of the 2022 Fifa World Cup playoffs first leg against Nigeria.
Ayew, 32, who has been ruled out of the game due to suspension, arrived at the stadium to support his teammates and welcome the debutants who were handed their maiden call to the national team.
After a successful training and media interaction, Ayew was mobbed by over hundred fans who were hailing him while others wanted to have a picture with him for future memories.
In the process, the former Swansea City captain, who now plies his trade in Qatar with giants Al Sadd, lost his watch and gold chain worth around £20,000 in the process.

Although, the person who stole the items was not seen immediately as police escorted Ayew to the team bus, a video circulating on social media had one guy making a confession behind the scenes of having the valuables.

Ghana will travel to Abuja on Saturday for the return fixture against Nigeria and the winner after the two legs will automatically qualify for the World Cup to be staged in Qatar later this year.
With barely 24 hours to the game against the Super Eagles, our reporters went to the various principal streets to see how things were going
There euphoria surrounding the 2022 Fifa World Cup playoffs between Ghana and Nigeria keep building up but not at a faster rate.
Ahead of the game, many Ghanaians are still not sure of what they will do to be at the stadium despite Ghana government issuing a short code (*711#) to be used to purchase tickets.
Moreover, the hype around the game is not intensed as compared to that of 2013, where the Black Stars hammered Egypt 6-1 at the same stage.
On Thursday, our reporters went to the principal streets in Kumasi, and most especially around the stadium to check the scenes but got a little disappointed.
No flags were seen being displayed to entice supporters and arouse their interest in the game ahead of the game.
Watch the situation in Kumasi on Thursday morning
Many are of the belief that the Black Stars may struggle to defeat Nigeria since the team is not in fine form. The Black Stars are yet to win any of their last four games as they exited the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations without a win after three games.
Also, Ghana’s preparations ahead of the 2022 Fifa World Cup playoffs against Nigeria seems to have been dealt a big blow following reports in the local media that FC Sheriff Tiraspol midfielder Edmund Addo has been ruled out of the game due to injury concerns.
The 21-year-old, who was expected to be named among the 18-man squad for the game on Friday as a backup to Real Mallorca midfielder Baba Iddrisu, underwent further assessment by the Black Stars medical team since he arrived in camp nursing an injury.
According to sources close to the team, Addo came from Moldovia with the injury in his club’s 3-0 win over Sfintul Gheorghe last weekend and although the medical team initially thought he would recover on time, the situation seems to be worsening.
Addo went through further checks in Kumasi as a MRI scan was needed and the report suggested that he is not fit for the double header.
Although, there are still 26 players currently available in camp, rumour suggest a local player maybe called to fill the void when technical advisor Chris Hughton and interim coach Otto Addo meet on Thursday morning.

Ahead of the first leg of the 2022 Fifa World Cup playoffs, we chronicle some of the recent good times the Black Stars have had over Super Eagles
Ghana will host Nigeria in the first leg of 2022 Fifa World Cup at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Friday.
It is a game the Black Stars need to win at all cost and possibly avoid conceding a goal. However, that will not come easy since the Nigerians are in a blistering form amid their disappointing run at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations held in Cameroon.
However, the Black Stars can take inspirations from the 4-1 thrashing of Nigeria in a friendly in England where Laryea Kingston, Asamoah Gyan, Stephen Appiah, Junior Ago, Sulley Muntari and Michael Essien made their opponents looked like mere minnows.

The country’s football governing body in conjunction with National Sports Authority have tediously worked put the facility in an awesome shape ahead of the game on Friday
Ahead of the 2022 Fifa World Cup playoffs between Ghana and Nigeria on Friday, Ghana government and Ghana Football Association have combined to get Baba Yara Sports Stadium in a very wonderful shape.
A fortnight ago, Fifa and Caf came out with a decision to reject Cape Coast Sports Stadium and Baba Yara Sports Stadium was then given a temporal license to host the first leg of the playoffs but several conditions were attached.
As a result, works serious began and as at Wednesday, almost 90 per cent of the recommendations were ready.
“The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has granted a one match approval for Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to host the World Cup Qatar 2022 play-off match between Ghana and Nigeria,” a Ghana FA statement read last week Wednesday.
Current state of the stadium with 48 hours to kick off
“The approval comes after a CAF Licensing Inspector visited the Baba Yara Sports Stadium last Sunday to inspect the facility.
“In a letter signed by CAF Development Officer, Raul Chipenda and sent to the General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association, Prosper Harrison Addo, Esq. and copied to FIFA, CAF stated that:
“Reference to the CAF stadium inspection conducted to Baba Yara Sports Stadium (Kumasi) for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 African qualifiers playoff round match, Ghana Vs. Nigeria scheduled for the 25th of March 2022, following the analysis of the report we have taken the following decision:
“Grant a one-match approval for the use of Baba Yara Sports Stadium (Kumasi) in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 African qualifiers playoff round match Ghana Vs. Nigeria;
Upon conclusion of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 playoff round match, the stadium is automatically removed from the list of CAF approved stadiums and will only be approved for any subsequent CAF/FIFA international senior national teams matches and CAF men’s interclubs competitions following the implementation of all the CAF remarks”. The letter further stated that the following conditions must be met before the match against Nigeria. They include:
Installation of new international standard, modern and comfortable officials’ benches at pitch level;
Adjustment of the floodlight intensity. A minimum of 1200 Lux should be provided all over the pitch, covering uniformly every area of the playing field; Increase seating and lockers in the teams dressing rooms to reach (25) persons;
Installation of completely new modern equipment and materials in the referees dressing rooms and ensure that is equipped with all the necessary materials and CAF requirements;
Set up the water system to provide both cold and hot water in the teams and officials dressing room;
General refurbishment of the CAF office, installation of modern desks and seats, including the necessary electronic and working equipment;
VOC must be available and equipped with all the necessary equipment and requirements;
Complete refurbishment of the media tribune, press conference room and media centre, installing new and modern equipment.
Meanwhile, Ghana interim coach Otto Addo has announced a 27-man squad for the game with only one local player in the person of Dennis Korsah who plays for Hearts of Oak.
Others include Thomas Partey who is expected to captain the team following Andre Ayew’s suspension. There are other debutants like Antwi Adjei and Club Brugge defender Odoi
Also, the NSA has teamed up with Ministry of Youth and Sports and Ghana Football Association to come up with an easy way of purchasing a ticket for the cliffhanger encounter.
Fans can easily buy a ticket with their phones by dialing the short code *711# and select option 2.
This comes up as a result of public outcry on how tickets easily become too difficult to find especially on matchdays.
Anyone who wishes to at the stadium can purchase a ticket for himself or herself as well as other friends and relatives.
A trip to the stadium on Monday
The last time Ghana played Fifa World Cup playoff game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, the Black Stars annihilated Egypt 6-1 and went on to qualify with a 7-3 aggregate scoreline after losing the return fixture 2-1 in Cairo.
The forward was almost ruled out of the game after initially testing positive for COVID-19 over the weekend but can now play against Super Eagles
Ghana and Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew has been passed fit to play against Nigeria in the first leg of the 2022 Fifa World Cup playoffs at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Friday.
The 29-year-old was initially tested positive for COVID-19 last weekend and that even ruled him out of Crystal Palace’s 3-0 victory over Everton in the FA Cup.
However, upon further checks on Tuesday, he has been passed fit to travel to Ghana and join the national team as Black Stars prepare for Nigeria.
“Jordan Ayew has tested negative for Covid and will join the team later this week in Kumasi ahead of the Nigeria game,” Director of Communication of Ghana FA Henry Asante said in an interview.
“Everyone is happy that he is finally coming. We know his quality and what he brings on board to the team. The coaches will determine whether he will start the game or not,” he added.
Meanwhile, twelve players who represented the country at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations have dropped from the squad to be used against Nigeria.
The shot-stopper was left out of the cliffhanger encounter leading to a lot of backlash from some Ghanaians
Ghana Football Association vice president Mark Addo has shed light on why Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim was not selected for the 2022 Fifa World Cup playoffs against Nigeria.
The 19-year-old has been in the form of his life but he was surprisingly snubbed despite interim coach Otto Addo naming four goalkeepers for the double header.
This has generated a lot of discussions as many Ghanaians believe one goalkeeper should have replaced either Manaf Nurudeen or Lawrence Ati-Zigi to add to Richard Ofori and Joojo Wollacott.
“The coaches have watched his (Danlad) tapes and they know his strength and weaknesses,” Addo told Kessben TV, as quoted by AshesGyamera.com.
“They compared him to all the goalkeepers called for Nigeria clash and that is why he wasn’t selected. This is only two games and I am sure they will continue to monitor and he will have his opportunity.
“I am not speaking for the coaches but every decision taken is based on information available to them. Let us just support the team for us to qualify,” he added.
Ghana will play Nigeria at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Friday and kick off has been scheduled for 19h30 GMT.
The return fixture will take place four days later in Abuja.
