Mensah explains why his move to Barcelona collapsed

The youngster has shed lights on why his much-publicised deal to the Catalans fell through last summer

Ghana youth international Gideon Mensah has confirmed media reports that he was on the verge of joining La Liga champions Barcelona during the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old, who is currently plying his trade in Austria with Red Bull Salzburg, caught the eye of Barcelona’s scouts and was rumoured to be one of their main targets for the junior team in Segunda division.

However, the move never materialised, as Barcelona failed to make an official bid to Red Bull on deadline day.

‘Yes, it was true but the only thing that will keep people doubting the story was that Barcelona never came to Red Bull [officially] to make a proposal,” Mensah told FMIG TV.

“But I had a call from one [agent] that they are working on this for me and that it was true and they had to make a board meeting.

“The next day, I saw news about it on the internet. A friend sent it to me from Ghana I and opened to read that I might go the Barcelona B and train with their first.”

“I called this agent and asked ‘did you tell anybody about this move? He said no and later called that the story was also circulating in the Spanish press because there was one scout from Barcelona who published the news already.

”The only hitch was that [Barcelona] didn’t come to Red Bull,” he added.

Mensah, who joined Red Bull from Ghana Premier League side Wafa, is part of Ghana U23 squad (Black Meteors) that eliminated Algeria to qualify for the Africa U23 Cup of Nations holding in Egypt for a place to the 2020 Olympic Games.

Tottenham to cause a stir at the Emirates Stadium – Mybet.africa

Leading sports betting firm, mybet.africa has predicted 7th place Tottenham Hotspurs will surprise Arsenal in the north London derby this Sunday at the Emirates Stadium.

Mybet.africa is offering sports punters a huge 10 GHs bonus on the London derby, should Tottenham win at the Emirates Stadium. To be eligible for this offer, punters will have to place a 20GHs bet to include the Tottenham match.

Arsenal saved some of their best performances last season for their Premier League meetings with Tottenham, beating them 4-2 at the Emirates Stadium in Emery’s first derby and coming within a missed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang penalty of picking up a deserved win over Spurs at Wembley.

This season, Spurs have proved to be a force to reckon with opening the season with a home win, a good away draw with Man City and a shock defeat at home last weekend.

Pochettino will be hoping to make a strong statement as both sides will be going into the game on the back of their respective defeats last weekend. Can the Gunners redeem their image against Hotspurs after losing by 3–1 to Liverpool last Sunday?

Spurs have the likes of Harry Kane, Lucas Moura, and Tanguy NDombele to cause a stir at the Emirate Stadium as all three strikers have scored this season.

Although Arsenal has home advantage, Pochettino and his players are poised to avenge last season defeat at the same stadium and restore hope in their fans. A magnificent away win for Spurs is what Pochettino strongly wants to achieve.

Odds: Arsenal 2.37 Draw 3.64 Tottenham 2.91
