Although, Commey tried hard to fight back, he was nowhere near his usual best as Lopez made sure he knocked him out to the surprise of many spectators. The counter-right which Lopez landed Commey which won him the day was similar to the one Robert Easter Jnr landed on Commey in their fight during the 12th round but survived at that time.

80% of HIV patients in Ghana are Christians – AIDS Commission

Ghana AIDS Commission has revealed that Christians constitute about 80 per cent of Persons Living HIV (PLHIV) in Ghana.

Officials attribute the trend to less active social mobilisation and community participation in the campaign on risk behaviours.

Speaking at an event in to mark World Aids Day at Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region, Technical Coordinator for Ghana AIDS Commission, Olivia Graham, said the Commission was strengthening partnership with churches for increased awareness, voluntary testing and anti-retroviral use.

“I would like to make a special appeal to the church because they are in the unique position to help achieve the 90-90-90 target,” she said.

“Indeed Christians are the majority population in the country and statistics show that 80 per cent of persons living with HIV in Ghana go to church, therefore, the AIDS commission seeks to strengthen its partnership with the church and encourage the church to use its pulpit to mobilize its members to test for HIV and support those who test positive to access and attend to anti-retro-viral treatment,” she added.

This year’s World Aids Day held in Ashanti Region was on the theme, “Communities make a Difference; Help End AIDS.”

The region has the highest prevalence rate in Ghana, despite a recent dip in the figures.

Ghana AIDS Commission and its technical agencies say they are ensuring the standard model of care is used across all health facilities.

The Commission also has a target to expand preventive, treatment and other care services accessible at a faster pace in its bid not to leave anyone behind.

Coordinator for Ghana Health Service for HIV/AIDS, Dr Agyarko Poku, believes the church plays a critical role in transforming the behaviours of persons in society.

He wants pastors and men of God must be engaged.

“We hope that as many that identify we are able to put them on the ART [Anti-Retroviral Therapy],” he said.

Impact on Labour

Officials of Ghana AIDS Commission also revealed that Ghana’s working population is being lost to HIV and its related illnesses.

Available statistics show that average productivity loss to HIV and its related ill health is about five days a month.

Stakeholders are worried because 170,000 adults diagnosed to be positive are not on Anti-Retroviral Therapy as well as 50 per cent of persons living with HIV are also not on Anti-Retroviral Therapy.

“It is not only a health issue but has socio-economic dimensions. Five days a month is a huge loss to Ghana’s economy. If this trend must be allowed to continue we definitely cannot achieve government ambition of Ghana-Beyond Aid agenda,” said Dr Poku.

Consequently, stakeholders say HIV/AIDS preventive, treatment and care services must be seen as an investment to push the country towards a healthcare sector that propels sustainable development.

Ashanti Region Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, wants the Ghana Health Service to mainstream HIV-AIDS management services in its decentralised structures.

“Regional and district directors of health services have signed performance contracts with well-defined key performance indicators to enhance management efficiency and accountability and monitoring of HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria programmes,” he said.

Meanwhile, stakeholders and communities are being employed to get involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS as the country thrives to meet the 90-90-90 ambition by 2030.

Breaking news: Kingsley Sarfo released from prison, set to join new club

The youngster was sentenced to a 32-month jail term for having sex with underage girls in the Scandinavian country

Ghana international Kingsley Sarfo has been officially released from prison in Sweden on Friday, AshesGyamera.com can exclusively confirm.

The 24-year-old was sentenced to a 32-month jail term by Malmo district court in 2018 on two counts – rape and driving under the influence of alcohol and without license – but he is now a free man following a new ruling.

According to AshesGyamera.com’s sources, the young lady who reported Sarfo to the court forged her documents to aid her travel to Sweden and reduced her age in the process making her underage.

Our sources have further revealed that Sarfo may be compensated and allowed to join any club of his wish unlike the initial ten-year ban handed him which meant he should be deported to Ghana.

Sarfo was set to be freed last week but upon further investigations, he was kept in police custody away from his original prison cell to finalise every documentation. He was allowed to go home to his family for the first time since the unfortunate incident happened.

Sarfo moved from Ghana to Europe from Golden Boot Academy in 2013 and began his professional journey FC Rosengard in Sweden before later joining BW 90 after a failed move to Mjallby. He later signed for Sirius before securing a bumper deal to giants Malmo FF.

He made his senior national team debut against Uganda in the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers and was regarded as one of the most promising players to represent the country at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations held in Egypt.

South Africa coach Ntseki praises ‘incredible’ tactics of Kwesi Appiah after defeat

The Bafana Bafana suffered defeat in the opening game of the qualifiers and their coach believes they lost the tactical fight

It was a night to remember as Ghana made a huge statement in their bid to qualify for 2021 Africa Cup of Nations by defeating South Africa 2-0 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Thursday.

Goals from Atletico Madrid star Thomas Teye Partey and a screamer from 19-year-old Kudus Mohammed on his debut were enough to seal the win for Black Stars and further ease the mounting pressure on coach Kwesi Appiah.

After the game, Bafana Bafana boss Molefi Ntseki was full of respect for Appiah as he believes tactical genius of the former Asante Kotoko defender coupled with quality players did the trick in the game.

“I was saying that it is not a personal war. I’ve got so much respect for Kwesi Appiah and I was saying it is a war of tactics and tactics will always win you games,” said as quoted by AshesGyamera.com.

“At the same time you need to have players who can also put in efforts into the tactics and I think if you look at Ghana, they put in so much effort and managed to get the two goals.”

He added: “We are not saying our players did not put in effort but unfortunately for them we could not win the match so I think if you want me to say it, yes Kwesi Appiah is the tactical one.”

Ghana now sit second with three points in Group C behind Sudan and will travel to Sao Tome for the second game on Monday.

50% of all women in relationships have a back-up partner in mind just in case – Study finds

0

Around 50 per cent of women in relationships have a back-up partner in mind in case they separate from their current partner, as per a study.

Almost half of all women have a back-up plan in place in the event of separation from their current partner, a study has said, Daily Mail reports. This basically implies that a woman has another man in mind as her Plan-B i the event of a break-up. In fact, married women are more likely to have a second option in place as compared to those in a relationship.

But who could the fall-back partner be? The study states that in most cases it is an old friend, who has harboured feelings for the particular woman. Or else, it could also be an ex-boyfriend or ex-husband. A colleague or her friend at the gym are also prospective candidates as per the study.

Around 1,000 women appeared for the survey and some of them also said that Plan B could be somebody whom they have known since as long as seven years. Meanwhile, one in ten women also said that their Plan B had confessed their feelings to them already.

More than four out of ten women, in fact, said that they familiarised with the other man or Plan B during their existent relationship. A small percentage of women also said that their feelings for their back-up plan were equivalent to the amount that they have for their partner. So, you must have guessed the next statement by now.

As per the study published in Daily Mail, around twelve per cent of the women said that their feelings for Plan B were “stronger” than for their current partner.
