Fifa suspends Sierra Leone FA over government interference, game against Ghana in limbo

The Black Stars may be given three points and goals if Fifa holds on to their latest decision against Sierra Leone

The Bureau of the FIFA Council decided today to suspend the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) with immediate effect due to government interference and that will mean that the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ghana has been automatically called off.

This decision comes after a recent letter from FIFA to the Minister of Sports of Sierra Leone to express grave concern about the removal of the SLFA President and the SLFA General Secretary and to request that both be allowed to access the SLFA premises without further delay to ensure that the operations of the SLFA, including FIFA-funded projects, are not jeopardised.

The suspension will be lifted once the SLFA and its recognised leadership (led by SLFA President, Ms Isha Johansen, and SLFA General Secretary, Mr Christopher Kamara) have confirmed to FIFA that the SLFA administration, premises, accounts and communication channels are under their control once again.

Following its suspension, the SLFA has lost all its membership rights as defined in art. 13 of the FIFA Statutes. The SLFA’s national and affiliated club teams are no longer entitled to take part in international competitions until the suspension is lifted.

This also means that neither the SLFA nor any of its members or officials may benefit from any development programmes, courses or training from FIFA or CAF.

Moreover, and in accordance with art. 16 par. 3 of the FIFA Statutes, other member associations may not entertain sporting contact with the SLFA during its suspension.

Unidus’ ‘Viagra Condom’ to be launched in Ghana

South Korea’s number one condom brand, UNIDUS Long Love, also known as ‘Viagra condom’ will launch in Ghana in the coming weeks. AG Young Trade Ltd, local agents of Biogenetics Co. Ltd who are manufacturers of the product, say their foray into the Ghanaian market comes at a time when there is so much talk about sexual health and safe sex. Its Chief Executive, Solomon Agbanyo thinks it’s a good time to launch in Ghana.

“We think the time is right for us, and we are positive about contributing to all the efforts at promoting responsible life and safe sex.”

The Unidus Long Love condom has been nicknamed “Condom Viagra” in markets where the product is in use. According to Mr Agbanyo, the product’s uniqueness in providing users a rare experience of excitement and endurance earned it the nickname.

“Aside from the traditional uses of condoms to prevent sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy, what you have in UNIDUS Long Love condoms is prolong sexual excitement due to its benzocaine properties known to delay climax. It’s like a one-stop shop,” he informed.

Benzocaine is a special climax control cream that helps prolong sexual excitement and aid in the prevention of premature ejaculation.

In a market where many brands of condom exist, Mr Agbanyo said research conducted before deciding to introduce the product onto the Ghanaian market suggests a gap in consumers’ expectations, which few or none of the currently available condoms meet.

“Our findings show that many of the sexually active people in Ghana resort to concoctions, aphrodisiacs, dangerous herbal mixtures, tablets, sprays and many other substances for endurance and prolong sexual excitement. Sometimes, they spend a lot on these things just to satisfy themselves and their partners.

UNIDUS Long Love condoms provide you all that experience without any worry of side effects,” Mr Agbanyo said.

He explains that packaging of the product is “world class making it comfortable, convenient and easy to carry around, especially the 3-in-1 pack.”

Ghana is currently faced with a tramadol epidemic which is posing a serious threat to the future of the youth. Health professionals have suggested that while some take tramadol for its anaesthetic effects, many consumers of the drug are young people who use it to enhance their sexual stamina.

But according to Mr. Agbanyo, “with UNIDUS’ ‘viagra condom you absolutely do not need any of these.”

The product received FDA approval last month and is set to be launched soon in Ghana. UNIDUS Long Love condoms is known in 12 countries including the USA, Mexico, El Salvador, Colombia, Peru, Jordan, Pakistan and Nepal, while it remains the best-seller in South Korea.

The manufacturer Biogenetics Co. Ltd (formerly UNIDUS CORPORATION) is the world’s largest condom manufacturer, which accounts for about 30% of the global condom market.

MenzGold sues Bank of Ghana and SEC

The underfire company dealing in gold and other minerals has made a shocking move, amid their troubles with the state institutions

MenzGold Ghana has finally held the bull by the horns after suing the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as well as the Bank of Ghana.

The embattled company is in court praying that the state’s institutions will be ordered to end their ‘unnecessary’ interferences in the company’s businesses, as well as further end the publishing of what they believe as “derogatory notices” against its business.

“An order of perpetual injunction to restrain the Bank of Ghana and Securities and Exchange Commission, its officers, servants and agents from interfering with Menzgold’s business activities or further acts of disobedience and non-compliance with law by publishing any derogatory notices.”

According to MenzGold, they also want the two institutions to render an unqualified retraction and apology for deliberately painting them black in the eyes of the masses, which has seriously affected their brand since their operations don’t even fall under the laws of the two bodies as perceived.

“A declaration that the plaintiff’s business does not fall within the present legislated scope of the Banks and Specialised Deposit Taking institutions Act 2016 (Act 930). A declaration that the plaintiff’s business does not fall within the present legislated scope of the Security Industry Act, 2016 (Act 929).”

AshesGyamera understands that the writ was filed by lawyer Kwame Boafo Akuffo from the Kwame Akuffo & Co. Unlimited law firm as they will be fighting on behalf of MenzGold.

This decision, obviously, will give MenzGold an ample time to restrategise on how to deal with the customers even after the September 28 declaration.

Partey scores in Atletico Madrid’s home win over SD Huesca

The Ghanaian ended his goal drought with a wonderful strike as Los Rojiblancos picked their third La Liga win this season ahead of Madrid derby

Ghana forward Thomas Teye Partey broke his goal duck this season in Atletico Madrid’s 3-0 victory over SD Huesca in La Liga at Wanda Metropolitano on Tuesday.

After falling behind Saul Niguez and Rodri in the pecking order this term, Partey was handed his third start of the season since the duo were rested purposely for the Madrid derby on Saturday.

Antoine Griezmann opened the scoring by the 16th minute when he connected an assist from Diego Costa, before Partey doubled the lead on 29th minute with a long-range effort to register his first goal of the season.

Four minutes later, Koke made it 3-0 after his pass to Angel Correa was initially flagged offside only to be awarded by a VAR decision.

Partey is now two goals shy of the total number of goals he scored last season in La Liga and four behind the overall goals in all competitions.

Atletico have moved to third on the log with 11 points, two points behind Barcelona who travel to Estadio Municipal de Butarque to face Leganes on Wednesday.

MenzGold a scam? Beware of Ponzi-like gold scams

Even the gold bullion market is not spared from fly-by-night operators and Ponzi scam artists just like some people suggest it is happening in Ghana currently with MenzGold. Here are simple tips to avoid being fooled.

Although, Ghana is blessed with several natural resources including gold, it’s not so easy to come by one in our everyday lives amid the stories we’ve been told in the past where our great grandfathers could pick some along the road after a heavy downpour.

Today, even the Chinese who have invaded the villages and operating in illegal mining ‘Galamsey’ are finding things difficult with their modern equipment but still, some people still believe gold can be obtained easily and traded in simple manner.

It is important for each one of us to do due diligence, in whatever endeavors we undertake. When it comes to precious metals investing, for example, you could not afford to think that just because the investment is sound, it follows that you can’t go wrong.

Look at all the gold exchange-traded funds and mutual funds whose values are derived from gold futures, the physical gold of which does not even exist. If you try to have such paper gold delivered, you’ll be left with nothing. This is why we advocate buying physical gold, the type that is stored in finite supply in your residence, or in our vault.

But even within the physical gold market, we can expect scammers to spring up, finding a way to defraud investors. Here’s a tip: whenever you hear about a certain company, just search on the Web, ‘Company X scam.’ If the search results show a lot of complaining customers or court cases, stay away!

Note, however, that these companies are aware of their Google-savvy potential clientele. The company may have ‘planted’ their own positive reviews that have the search word ‘scam’ in them. But if something is fishy, this will likely be reflected in the volume of negative results. Bottom line: if anything is too good to be true, it probably is.

Interest payments on gold?

At BullionStar, we claim nothing more than that precious metals, which we offer at the lowest prices anywhere, are better to have than any other currency. And because of the inflation-based global monetary system, it is often better to hold stable money like gold and silver rather than most stocks especially during economic downturns. Whatever returns you get from precious metals are derived from the metal itself, not some kind of dividend.

Gold is a one-of-a-kind medium of exchange. There’s nothing like it. But it doesn’t provide annual yields or dividends. Be suspicious if you are ever offered interest payments in exchange for holding your gold. Ask yourself, where is this money used to pay dividends coming from?

The classic Ponzi scheme is one where payments to investors/members are derived from additional recruits who pay into the scheme. In the case of gold scam artists, they’re not making their money by simply selling to gold investors. They’re selling at such above-market prices that they are able to fund their operations.

How gold scammers operate

What happens is that the pricey gold is offered at a small ‘discount,’ that is a discount from their exorbitant prices. You are given the option of the company buying back your gold at full price, that is, at the full exorbitant price. And the money used to buy back the gold from you must be derived from new recruits. Meanwhile, these new recruits buy the ‘discounted’ gold in the expectation of returns from selling it back to the company at a later date.

Such a system is highly impractical and unsustainable. With premiums of around 25% spot price of gold, what happens when you run out of dupes who are willing to buy high? Your ‘dividends’ are obliterated.

You might derive some comfort that you are left with your gold — if they actually deliver the physical gold to you. But then, you could have bought the gold at much better prices almost anywhere else. In addition, such gold is of questionable quality. Looking at the products offered by some of these companies, the bars being displayed are of obscure brands. To whom can you sell these bars in the future? This is important, considering the potential for fraud or counterfeiting of metals. It is always best to buy trusted and reputable brands.

Avoid being fooled

Do not be led by rhetoric that you read off some website’s banner. It is possible that they are making money off people’s growing interest in gold and silver, while not necessarily providing them with good investment options.

Even when something sounds nice and truthful, go by the facts. It’s not enough that a company proclaims the right thing, e.g. bullishness in gold, but that their business model is based on this, and not shady practices.

The scary thing is these scammers are still in operation, in Singapore, Malaysia and other Southeast Asian countries, always looking for people who aren’t aware of how a Ponzi scheme could be applied to the precious metals investing sector.

Better options

Make sure you get your physical bullion at the most competitive prices, and that you are ensured of physical delivery. And in the case where you opt for vault storage of your precious metals, make sure a third party can verify the presence of your bullion in the vault.

Apart from improving the regulatory aspect, it is important to instill in people the practice of due diligence before they put their money somewhere after toiling up and down to raise such a huge amount of money in Ghana, only to be scammed by only a few people who promised heaven and earth.

‘They are trying to destroy my brother’ – Ronaldo’s sister calls for ‘justice’ after red card

Katia Aveiro has jumped to the defence of her sibling after he was left distraught by the first sending off in his long Champions League career

The sister of Cristiano Ronaldo has launched a furious attack on her brother’s critics following Wednesday’s red card, accusing them of trying to destroy him while promising that justice will be served.

Ronaldo’s European bow in Juventus colours turned into a nightmare against Valencia when he received his marching orders after just 29 minutes.

The striker was sanctioned for grabbing Jeison Murillo’s hair while the Colombian defender was on the floor, having previously fallen after a clash with Cristiano.

Cristiano was left visibly distressed by the red card, his first in the Champions League, at first collapsing into a heap on the floor before leaving the Mestalla pitch in tears.

He was forced to watch the rest of the match from the dressing room, as Juventus triumphed 2-0 thanks to two penalties converted by Miralem Pjanic in the absence of the spot-kick specialist.

Ronaldo now faces a ban from the Champions League group stage, but his sister believes he will bounce back as she turned her ire onto the Portuguese forward’s critics.

“Football’s shame… justice will be served,” Katia Aveiro fired in a post published on her Instagram account.
“They want to destroy my brother but God never rests. Shameful.”

Ronaldo’s first opportunity to redeem himself after the red card will come on Sunday, when Juventus visit Frosinone in Serie A.

After drawing three blanks in the Italian top flight the ex-Real Madrid man finally broke his duck last weekend, scoring twice to mastermind a 2-1 win over Sassuolo that keeps the Bianconeri at the Serie A summit with a perfect record so far.

Ronaldo deserves Ballon d’Or not Modric, says Casemiro

The Real Madrid midfielder feels the 2018 Ballon d’Or should go to his ex-team-mate instead of his current one

Cristiano Ronaldo should win the Ballon d’Or this year rather than Luka Modric, according to the Croatia star’s Real Madrid team-mate Casemiro.

Isco backed Modric to win the prize for the first time after he shone in Madrid’s 3-0 Champions League defeat of Roma on Wednesday.

Modric, who won the Golden Ball at the World Cup after leading Croatia to the final, created Madrid’s second goal with a perfectly weighted pass for Gareth Bale.

In sharp contrast, Ronaldo was sent off on his first Champions League appearance for Juventus after clashing with Valencia defender Jeison Murillo in an off-the-ball incident.

Ronaldo’s goals helped to fire Madrid to a third consecutive Champions League crown before he left for Juventus and Casemiro feels the Portugal captain deserves a sixth Ballon d’Or.

“Luka’s year has been spectacular,” Casemiro told reporters in a post-match interview.

“But in my opinion I would give it to Cristiano Ronaldo because he has been the best throughout last season.”

A three-goal win against Roma at the Santiago Bernabeu gave three-time reigning European champions Madrid three Group G points in their first game in the competition under new head coach Julen Lopetegui.

Isco’s perfect free-kick gave Los Blancos the lead on the stroke of half-time before Bale secured the result, to which substitute Mariano Diaz added late gloss.

“Last year they reached the semi-finals, almost got to the final, we have to value the match we have played,” Casemiro added.

“I would say it was almost perfect, I’ll keep the goal chances that we have created. We will correct [mistakes], the important thing is to create 30 goal chances.

“With Luka, Toni [Kroos] and Isco we have known each other for a long time, the quality they have is impressive, everything is easier, I know them and we feel very comfortable.”

Marcelino: Tearful Ronaldo said he did nothing wrong

The Valencia boss discussed Wednesday’s dismissal after his side succumbed to 10-man Juventus in their Champions League opener

Valencia head coach Marcelino said a devastated Cristiano Ronaldo insisted he did nothing wrong after the superstar was controversially sent off in Juventus’ Champions League victory.

-Goal

Juve forward Ronaldo – making his Champions League debut for the Serie A holders – was inconsolable after receiving a red card in the 29th minute of Wednesday’s 2-0 win at Valencia.

It was a forgettable bow for Ronaldo, who was shown a straight red card following an inconspicuous coming together with Valencia defender Jeison Murillo in an off-the-ball incident, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner left in tears after his dismissal.

Discussing Ronaldo’s red card – which has put him in doubt for a reunion against former club Manchester United – Marcelino told reporters: “He was very upset, even crying, because he said he didn’t do anything wrong.
“I haven’t seen the play which ended up in the red card.”

Despite their numerical advantage, Valencia walked away from a packed Mestalla empty-handed following a pair of Miralem Pjanic penalties.

Pjanic converted spot-kicks either side of the break, while Valencia’s Dani Parejo saw his penalty saved by Wojciech Szczesny in stoppage time.

“It’s obvious that the penalties have impacted us,” Marcelino said. “The penalty just before half-time was a real blow, we then had to try and pull ourselves together.

“The other penalty was then a death sentence for us, conceding two goals to such an excellent team makes the task wholly difficult.”

United accounted for Young Boys 3-0 in the other Group H fixture and Marcelino added: “We have faced a great team and they have surpassed us. After the red card the match was made even. However, they’ve taken advantage of our mistakes.”

I’ve never lost at City – Man Utd fan Rafael boasts after Lyon win

Once a member of the Old Trafford outfit, the Brazilian helped Lyon to a 2-1 win at City, who he suggested may have underestimated his team-mates

Rafael da Silva felt complacency crept into Manchester City’s work as his Lyon side stunned their hosts with a 2-1 Champions League win at the Etihad Stadium .

First-half goals from Maxwel Cornet and Nabil Fekir proved enough for Bruno Genesio’s visitors, who withstood a late onslaught after Bernardo Silva reduced the deficit midway through the second half.

Lyon have only managed seven points from their opening five Ligue 1 matches this season and Rafael – a former Manchester United right-back who clearly revelled in Wednesday’s triumph – felt those underwhelming showings might have persuaded City they were in for a straightforward 90 minutes.

“Everybody knows I’m a United supporter. To come here to win at City – I’ve never lost here – is very good for me,” he told reporters.

“We know that if we play together we have a chance against any team. We have quality players, as you saw. We just need to play like this more often and results will come.

“I don’t know if they underestimated us. We played well. We had more chances to score goals.
“Maybe they thought… we are not very good in Ligue 1, you know. We’re not playing very good football.

“Maybe they looked at the videos and said ‘well, they don’t have good confidence’. I think we played really well.”

Shakhtar Donetsk battled back to a 2-2 draw against Hoffenheim in Group F’s other match and Rafael added: “It’s a fantastic start for us. After a win here, of course we think we can go through.

“We just need to play like this more often – not just because it’s Manchester City. We need to play every team like that.”

Appiah clarifies comments on Ghana squad selection, insists he was misquoted

Following social media backlash after his recent interview, the Black Stars coach says his earlier comments were misquoted

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has clarified his comments on Black Stars selection, insisting he was misquoted by the press.

In an interview with Ghanaweb.com, he was quoted as saying that he will only explain his selection procedures to ‘fellow technical people who will understand [not entire Ghanaians]’ and that resulted in a backlash on social media.

However, the 58-year-old has insisted he was taken out of context.

“I have been taken out of contest because I never said that I owe no Ghanaian an explanation on how I select players for the national team,” Appiah told Fox FM .

“I was offered the Black Stars coaching job by Ghanaians so how can I say I don’t owe them any explanation? No wise person will say that or make such a mistake.

“What I said was that, we are in rebuilding period where we call lots of players for assessment, so explaining reasons behind every call up will be difficult.

“But when players are called up for the major tournament (Afcon), by then everyone must have watched the players during the qualifiers to know of their ability. At that time, a press conference can be staged to explain the squad list to all Ghanaians,” he added.

Appiah is expected to name his squad in the coming days to face Sierra Leone next month in the 2019 Afcon Group H qualifier.
