Sammy Gyamfi freed from police custody

Information available indicates that Communications Director of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Sammy Gyamfi has been released after an earlier arrest by the BNI Monday morning.

Sammy Gyamfi was picked up by the officers at the premises of Despite Media, after making an appearance on UTV’s morning show.

The NDC member was whisked away by the officers in a pickup.

It will be recalled that in December last year, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service extended an invitation to Sammy Gyamfi after a report was made against him by the Jubilee House on allegations of forgery and false publication.

Pertinent to that, the NDC communicator filed a lawsuit at the Accra High Court, demanding an injunction on an earlier court warrant by the Kaneshi District Court for the seizure of his electronic gadgets.

In a letter from his lawyers to the CID on December 23, 2019, Sammy Gyamfi refused to honour the CID invitation saying it could prejudice the court case.

“In as much as we wish to honour your invitation due to the respect we have for your institution, our client instructs us that we cannot honour your invitation due to change in circumstances which are that our client has filed an Application for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights at the High Court in relation to the matter being handled by your office and an application for interlocutory injunction which have both been served on you…

The decision to turn down your invitation is purely on the grounds that honouring your invitation especially when we have misgivings and concerns about how the whole matter has been handled which are a threat to the constitutional rights of our client will not only prejudice the matters before the court but also have the potential to render such matters moot which we are not prepared to do so due to the respect we have for the judicial authority of the High Court which we are enjoined including your institution to do so by the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.”

Meanwhile, National Chair of the party, Ofosu Ampofo has described the arrest as a diversionary tactic which they won’t fall for.

The Phobians were stunned at their home ground by their fierce rivals in the 107th edition of the Super Clash

Asante Kotoko shocked Hearts of Oak with a 2-1 win in Ghana Premier League matchday six fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Justice Blay’s first-half header looked destined to carry the day for Kotoko but a beautiful effort from Joseph Esso levelled the score and set up an intriguing finish as both sides searched for the winner only for Naby Keita to surprise the hosts.

Hearts had the better start of the game with Joseph Esso and Kofi Kordzi having half chances but the duo failed to make it count as Kotoko gradually warmed themselves into the game.

By the 12th minute, Kotoko’s pressing game finally paid off as they snatched the opener. Augustine Okrah saw his teasing free-kick met by Justice Blay, as the midfielder’s header went past goalkeeper Richard Atta.

Eight minutes later, Kordzi had another opportunity to bring Hearts level but his header missed the target narrowly  to the surprise of the home supporters.

On the half-hour mark, Kotoko were made to make a change in their midfield setup as Mudasiru Mohammed was stretched off and Collins Ameyaw took his place. Although, the substitution affected Maxwell Konadu’s men a little, they held on to recess with their advantage intact.

After the break, Kotoko continued from where they left and kept pushing their hosts into their own half.

However, Esso snatched the equaliser against the rUN of play after a defensive mistake by Kotoko’s back four.

On 73rd minute, Esso and Keita had a head collusion and Esso was forced to take early showers as Bernard Arthur took his place.

Kotoko finally found an opening to win the day when substitute Mathew Anim Cudjoe’s shot was handled in the box anď Keita stepped up to send the resulting penalty kick into the net.

Hearts will now travel to Dawu to face Dreams next weekend while Kotoko host Liberty Professionals behind closed  doors at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium

Ghana Premier League: King Faisal 1-1 Elmina Sharks – Green and Whites stumble once again at home

The In Sha Allah Boys woes continue as they failed to record their first win of the campaign after six games

King Faisal once again failed to impress at home as they shared the spoils 1-1 with Elmina Sharks in Ghana Premier League matchday six at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday.

After a pulsating encounter within the opening 15 minutes, Faisal bossed the midfield and began to cause troubles to the visitors’ defence.

By the 18th minute, Faisal’s Ibrahim Osman had a chance to put his side in front but his effort was blocked by the defender Samuel Arthur.

Sharks responded two minutes later as a pass found Benjamin Tweneboah but Moro Ibrahim did well to block the last ditch effort of the midfielder.

After the break, Faisal pushed men forward in search of the opening goal. Eventually, it paid off by the 55th minute as Kwame Peprah connected a cross from Ibrahim Osman to score his second goal of the season.

However, with fifteen minutes left on the clock, substitute Alhaji Mustapha restored parity for the visitors following a miscommunication by Faisal’s defence.

Although, Faisal doubled their efforts in search of another goal to record their first win of the season, Sharks were resolute at the back and held on to record a deserving draw.

Medeama coach Boadu was spiritually attacked by Ashanti Gold- supporters chief alleges

Medeama coach Samuel Boadu is responding to treatment after being rushed to Pentecost Hospital in Tarkwa when he collapsed as his side won 1-0 against Ashanti Gold at the AKOON Park in Tarkwa on Saturday.

Despite Boadu’s absence, Medeama held on to their 1-0 lead thanks to Prince Opoku Agyemang’s effort to hand Ashanti Gold their second defeat in a row.

However, Medeama’s supporters rep for Ashanti region Jawad Obama believes their coach was spiritually attacked by the visitors who wanted to destabilise their bench.

“What happened to our coach can be normal. He was spiritually attacked by our opponents,” Obama told Kessben FM.

“On their way to Tarkwa, we heard a lot of things and it wasn’t a surprise that our coach who had been unfit throughout the day collapsed the moment he stood up. However, we thank everyone for their prayers especially Ashanti Gold’s team doctor because he has shown professionalism since he helped saved Boadu’s life,” he added.

Assistant coach Hamza Mohammed took charge in Boadu’s absence as Medeama recorded their third win at home this campaign.

Hearts of Oak will finish off Kotoko in Super Clash, says Jaraa

The former Ghana youth international says the Phobians stand a better chance of winning the Super Clash this weekend

Former Ghana youth goalkeeper Ali Jaraah has insisted that Hearts of Oak will defeat Asante Kotoko in the first Super Clash of the season at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The Phobians, after a poor start of the campaign, have picked two wins and a draw in their last three games as they hope to edge closer to their ambitions of winning the top-flight.

Kotoko, on the other hand, have recovered from their two defeats in a row by beating Ebusua Dwarfs 2-0 last weekend and would hope to add their bitterest rivals to their casualties.j

“I think Hearts of Oak are stronger than Asante Kotoko currently. This game willhowever be difficult for both teams but I think Hearts will finish off Kotoko on Sunday, ” Jaraah told Sir Martin on Ghana Sports Page 1.

“I watched Hearts in their game against Berekum Chelsea and in fact their performance wasn’t bad although they lost at home. I think although Hearts didn’t start the season well and Kotoko had a brighter start, the latter are struggling while Hearts are on the rise.

A win for either Hearts or Kotoko could see them moving into the Top four in their bid to lift the trophy.

Ghana FA clarifies FA Cup sponsorship deal with MTN; Read details

The football association has open the lid on contract signed between them and the Telecommunication giants

Ghana Football Association has shed lights on the contractual agreement between them and Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) following threats of boycotting this weekend FA Cup games by some clubs.

According to the agitated clubs, they wanted to know the details of the new deal and how clubs stand to benefit as the principal players at the end of the season.

“The Ghana Football Association wishes to state that the Association has not signed a new agreement with Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) for the sponsorship of its FA Cup competition,” a GFA statement read.

“It would be recalled that in 2017, the Association renewed its agreement with MTN Ghana for a further three (3) seasons at a total Sponsorship Fee of GHc1,100,000.00 per year (that is GHc800,000 cash and 310,000 MTN Recharge cards/products).

Yacouba’s absence won’t affect Kotoko’s gameplan against Hearts in Super Clash – supporters chief

The Porcupine Warriors supporters chief believes missing their out of favour striker will not affect their game plan against the Phobians this weekend

Ashanti Regional Circles chairman of Asante Kotoko, Obeng Sekyere, has insisted that they will defeat Hearts of Oak this weekend in Ghana Premier  League matchday six despite concerns about the availability of striker Songne Yacouba.

The Burkina Faso international is likely to be dropped from the squad that will travel to Accra by Maxwell Konadu following controversies surrounding his future. Yacouba is reported to have refused to come to terms with the club’s top hierarchy.

The 29-year-old is demanding a $150,000 before signing a contract extension which has led to Kotoko’s decision to allow him to leave as a free agent.

In effect, the club has signed William Opoku as a back up and the budding talent is expected to be named among the three strikers in the matchday squad alongside Richard Arthur and Naby Keita.

“Yacouba has made up his mind not to sign a contract extension with Kotoko so psychologically he is not sound and needs to be replaced by an equally good player for the game against Hearts of Oak on Sunday,” Sekyere told Otec FM.

“We the supporters have no problem even if he decides to rest for the number of days left on his contract. Kotoko lost games which he was part so his exclusion on Sunday will not have any negative effect on the team,” he added.

According to AshesGyamera.com’s sources, Yacouba who is yet to score a goal for Kotoko since June 2019, has barely two months left on his contract and could be heading to Egypt to sign for FC Smouha.
