Hearts of Oak have a reserved jersey for ‘superstar’ Sulley Muntari – Nyaho Tamakloe reveals

The Phobians chief has revealed that although the club is yet to seal a deal with the former UEFA Champions League winner, a jersey number has been reserved for him

Hearts of Oak board member Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe says that the club will love to sign a deal with former Inter Milan and A.C Milan superstar Sulley Ali Muntari when the player is ready to play in Ghana Premier League.

Although, the club rejected media reports last week that they have signed Muntari for the second round of Ghana Premier League, the former Ghana Football Association president insists a jersey [number] has been reserved for him since 2018 and will be a beautiful moment when he agrees to to don the rainbow colours in the future.

“For the past two years, Hearts of Oak have been telling Sulley Ali Muntari that we’ve reserved a jersey for him. Anytime he’s ready to play, he knows what to do,” Tamakloe told Angel FM‘s Saddick Adams in an interview.

Muntari, 35, who is a free agent currently after parting ways with Spanish Segunda B side Albacete, has been having training indoors in Ghana due to the Coronavirus disease which has brought all football related activities to a standstill across the globe since three months ago.

Palmer reveals why Kwesi Appiah lost Black Stars job under Kurt Okraku’s administration

The football administrator believes that Kwasi Appiah lost his Black Stars coaching role due to a revenge some people currently in power wanted to have on him

Former Black Stars Management Committee chairman Wilfred Kwaku Osei ‘Palmer’ has hinted that Kwasi Appiah was relieved from office after stepping on too many toes during player selections ahead of tournaments in the past.

The 60-year-old saw his second coming as Ghana coach coming to an end in November last year after new GFA president Kurt Okraku and the Executive Council opted not to extend his mandate.  In effect, Appiah’s assistant coach C.K Akonnor was handed the vacant position and he recently signed a two-year deal.

However, Palmer suggests that although Appiah couldn’t win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations staged in Egypt, the decision to drop some players especially John Antwi, who was then backed by people currently in power, was one of the major reasons he was shown the exit door.

“Is it not an open secret that because Kwesi Appiah did not call certain kind of players [when he was in charge of Ghana], somebody got agitated and at the end of it all we know the outcome of that decision today,” Palmer told FOX FM.

Appiah is currently rumoured to be in talks with Sudan and Libya to become their new coach when the Coronavirus disease is over.

‘I dare any player or coach to come out if I’ve influenced national team selection’; Palmer vows to quit football if found guilty

The football administrator has declared himself clean of any wrongdoings with regards to player’s selection to national team

Tema Youth bankroller Wilfred Kwaku Osei Palmer has vowed to honourably quit football if he is found guilty of influencing player selection to the various national teams of Ghana.

The former Black Stars management committee chairman made a wild allegation on Tuesday that favoritism and nepotism have taken centre stage when coaches are selecting players to national teams since top officials of the football association use their positions to influence it.

Although, a section of Ghanaians have mentioned several players including Jeremiah Arkorful, Joseph Attamah Laweh, Moses Odjer and Francis Narh who represented the country in 2013 Fifa U20 World Cup after playing for Tema Youth, Palmer insist none of them didn’t deserve the chance and has thrown a challenge to anyone to prove otherwise.

“If any coach or agent is able to say that I accepted any money or gift to influence a player’s inclusion to the various national team, I will quit doing football business in Ghana. I dare any coach or player to come out today,” Palmer told FOX FM.

“Everyone know the kind of person I am and even when someone at a point approached me to help his player’s inclusion to a national team while I was in charge of the management committee, I blatantly told the person it is not possible because it is against my principles.

“Every player from Tema Youth that got the opportunity to feature for national team deserved it. They got the chance on merit to represent the country and not because I was involved or whatsoever,” he added.

Palmer, who is pursuing  a legal tussle at CAS, is still harbouring high hopes to become Ghana FA president despite being disqualified to participate in last year’s elections.

Ghana FA officials influence Black Stars & other national teams call-up, says Palmer

The former Executive Council member has revealed that player selections to form the various national teams are not done fairly in the country

Disappointed Ghana Football Association presidential aspirant Wilfred Kwaku Osei ‘Palmer’ has insisted that players that are selected to the senior national team and other teams to represented the country are usually influenced by top members of the association.

According to the former Black Stars Management Committee chairman, nepotism takes centre stage at the detriment of the development of the game since some officials use their influences to invite players that do not match the requirements needed to solve a technical problem in various national teams.

“It is an open secret that GFA officials influence the selection of players into the national team. There are some players who come to the national team but are not fit to be in the team,” Palmer told Daily Graphic.

“Instead of we looking at things from a technical perspective, we tend to look for players very close to us to be part of the team, irrespective of their level or quality of skills they have.

“If you have your doubts, you can talk to the ex-coaches and they will tell you a lot,” he added.

Palmer is still banking his hopes of becoming Ghana FA on Court of Arbitration for Sports to overturn a ruling which barred him from contesting for the position last year.

A positive ruling from CAS would mean that a new election will be held since the one that brought Kurt Okraku into office would be nullified.

Ghana FA president Kurt Okraku to face impeachment charges, says Kofi Manu

The outspoken football administrator believes there has been an abuse of power by the country’s football association chief

Former Techiman City chief executive officer Kofi Manu ‘Wonderful’ has revealed that there are an impending impeachment charges against Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku for breaching portions of the body’s status.

According to Manu, the new president has achieved little following his assumption of office and has been illegally approving allowances to his benefit.  Also, his involvement in the selection of technical director for Ghana FA is in sharp contrast with Article 39 and 42 of the Status and will face the heat after Coronavirus pandemic is over.

“The only unprecedented thing Kurt Okraku has done as the GFA President is the disrespect for members of the Association through the disregard of the constitution of the FA that brought them into office,” Manu told Happy FM.

“Between October 25, 2019 that he [Kurt Okraku] was elected, he has approved the allowances he has been taking which has not been approved by Congress. It is an offense which is liable to impeachment. In Article 42 paragraph 2, the remuneration of members of the Executive Council shall be proposed by an Adhoc compensation committee and approved by Congress,” he said.

“He has bluntly refused to respect the status of the FA and taking monies which has not been approved by Congress which is an impeachable offense.

“How can the GFA president be a chairman of a committee to interview people for Technical Director role when the status does not allow that,” he added.

Okraku, who defeated George Afriyie and Nana Yaw Amponsah in an election last year, succeeded former Fifa Council member Kwesi Nyantakyi after he was found guilty of breaching the ethics of his office.

Some appointees have hindered Kwame Kyei’s vision for Kotoko, says Amos Frimpong

The Porcupine Warriors former skipper believes the club’s recent problems can be attributed to poor work output by some of the appointees holding vital positions

Former Asante Kotoko captain Amos Frimpong has backed the club’s Executive Board Chairman Kwame Kyei, despite calls by a section of the supporters that his three-year tenure in office must not be extended by Asantehene.

Despite the club winning one FA Cup trophy and Normalisation Committee Tier One title since taking over from Opoku Nti in 2017, his administration has come under immense pressure due to poor handling of legal issues concerning players and coaches.

Kotoko have been forced to pay huge sum of money as compensations to former coaches C.K Akonnor and Kjetil Zachariasen for wrongful dismissal while Fifa has ordered the club to pay Esperance du Tunis $240,000 for signing Emmanuel Clottey wrongfully – a case which could’ve been solved amicably if due diligence was applied.

However, Frimpong believes some appointees are the cause of the club’s downfall since they don’t work as expected.

“The little I saw from Kwame Kyei was that he is someone who has the team at heart and ready to make every sacrifices needed to make Kotoko perform better in the league and Africa,” Frimpong told Ghanasportpage.com

“Anytime he is ready to sacrifice in terms of money and everything, there are some people around who he has brought on board to help and sometimes those people come and disappoint him. However, if Kyei really gets people who also have the good heart and good will, Kotoko can also go far because he is ready to send the club to where it belongs.”

“Sometimes, when you are working and you employ people and they don’t have the same goodwill or offer same sacrifices to support you, it becomes very difficult to achieve the targets. Therefore, those things too do worry at times. I pray that the good ambitions I personally saw from him to help Kotoko succeed will become a reality when those he bring on board also work as expected,” he added.

Frimpong, who now plies his trade with AS Kaloum in Guinea, was the skipper when Kotoko hammered rivals Hearts of Oak 3-0 to win the FA Cup in 2018.

Waris disagrees with Wakaso, insists Black Stars woes is ‘coaches politicising player selections’

The striker believes politics by coaches before major tournaments is the cause of the Black Stars long run without a major trophy

Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris has rejected claims by teammate Mubarak Wakaso that partisan politics between National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) has largely influenced the Black Stars poor run at major competitions.

The 28-year-old, who now plays for French Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, insists that Ghana has failed to win a major trophy since lifting the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations because coaches and their technical teams play politics with player selections.

“I saw Wakaso [Mubarak] making a comment that party politics between NPP and NDC is affecting the Black Stars and I feel that is not affecting the performance of the players because [party] politics does play football,” Wakaso told YAC Media’s Saddick Àdams during an Instagram interview on Wednesday.

“I think at the national team level, the politics rather affect the selection of players. Like myself, they will call you from Europe when you’re performing and always drop you like a scapegoat for players who do not even play half a season and I’m not going to talk about myself alone.

“The selections towards [qualifiers or tournaments] are not based on your performance. It’s only based on politics in the team and I think it is something that affects us at tournaments because that’s the biggest stage that everyone wants to be part and that’s also when the politics get in a lot,” he added.

It will be recalled that Waris was conspicuously missing from Ghana’s final squad named by former coach Kwasi Appiah that represented the country at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations staged in Egypt. That move meant that it was the third consecutive time he was left out ahead of competition.

Waris, who boasts of 31 appearances and four goals, is hoping to have another opportunity under new coach C.K Akonnor.

COVID-19: At least 300,000 Africans expected to die – UN Agency

The COVID-19 pandemic will likely kill at least 300,000 Africans and risks pushing 29 million into extreme poverty, the U.N. Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) said on Friday, calling for a $100 billion safety net for the continent.

Africa’s 54 countries have so far reported fewer than 20,000 confirmed cases of the disease, just a fraction of the more than two million cases reported globally. But the World Health Organization warned on Thursday that Africa could see as many as 10 million cases in three to six months.

“To protect and build towards our shared prosperity at least $100 billion is needed to immediately resource a health and social safety net response,” the UNECA report stated.

UNECA is also backing a call by African finance ministers for an additional $100 billion in stimulus, which would include a halt to all external debt service.

The agency modelled four scenarios based on the level of preventive measures introduced by African governments.

In the total absence of such interventions, the study calculated over 1.2 billion Africans would be infected and 3.3 million would die this year. Africa has a total population of around 1.3 billion.

Most of Africa, however, has already mandated social distancing measures, ranging from curfews and travel guidelines in some countries to full lockdowns in others.

Yet even its best-case scenario, where governments introduce intense social distancing once a threshold of 0.2 deaths per 100,000 people per week is reached, Africa would see 122.8 million infections, 2.3 million hospitalisations and 300,000 deaths.

Combating the disease will be complicated by the fact that 36% of Africans have no access to household washing facilities, and the continent counts just 1.8 hospital beds per 1,000 people. France, in comparison, has 5.98 beds per 1,000 people.

Africa’s young demographic – nearly 60% of the population is below the age of 25 – should help stave off the disease. On the other hand, 56 per cent of the urban population is concentrated in overcrowded slums and many people are also vulnerable due to HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malnutrition.

Africa imports 94% of its pharmaceuticals, the report said, noting that at least 71 countries have banned or limited exports of certain supplies deemed essential to fight the disease.

“In a best-case scenario … $44 billion would be required for testing, personal protective equipment, and to treat all those requiring hospitalisations,” it stated.

However, that is money Africa does not have as the crisis could also shrink the continent’s economy by up to 2.6%.

“We estimate that between 5 million and 29 million people will be pushed below the extreme poverty line of $1.90 per day owing to the impact of COVID-19,” the report said.

Nigeria alone will lose between $14 billion and $19.2 billion in revenues from oil exports this year. And the prices of other African commodities exports have plummeted as well.

Lockdowns in Europe and the United States also imperil Africa’s $15 billion in annual textile and apparel exports as well as tourism, which accounts for 8.5% of Africa’s GDP.

FIFA postpones U-17 Women’s World Cup in India due to Covid-19 pandemic

The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2020, which was scheduled to be held in India in November, will be postponed due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be held in India in November was on Saturday postponed by the football’s world governing body due to the worsening COVID-19 pandemic.

The women’s age group showpiece was to be held at five venues in the country from November 2-21.
The decision was taken by the FIFA-Confederations working group which was recently established by the Bureau of the FIFA Council to address the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The working group decided to “postpone the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup Panama/Costa Rica 2020 – originally scheduled for August/September 2020 – and the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup India 2020 – originally scheduled for November 2020.”

“New dates will be identified,” FIFA said in a statement.

The working group includes the FIFA administration and Secretary Generals and top executives from all confederations. It unanimously approved a series of recommendations following its first meeting, which was organised via conference late on Friday.

While the tournament itself is five months away but just a few qualifying events have been held so far and the remaining have not been held due to the global health crisis which has affected more than a million people.

Over 50,000 deaths have been caused by the deadly outbreak so far.

Amiens defender Opoku advises Ghanaians to adhere to guidelines and avoid Coronavirus spread

The defender has added his voice to the growing concerns about the pandemic which is currently sweeping across all countries

Amiens defender Nicholas Opoku has advised Ghanaians to stick simple procedures given out by health practitioners to stay safe from Coronavirus.

After Ghana president Nana Akufo-Addo closed down all schools and advised against social gatherings including churches and mosques, the number seems to increase as 24 cases have been reported including one death.

On Monday, March 23 2020, about 1,300 personnel were deployed to spray the capital city of Accra including over 136 market centres and Opoku believes sticking to basic guidelines will help curb the spread of COVID-19.

“As we already know, we’re in a difficult time right now. This coronavirus is causing a lot of damages in a lot of things in the whole world,” Opoku said in a video he posted on Social Media.

“I’m pleading with each and everyone to stay safe. These [are some of the things we need to follow]: Washing your hands with soap and using sanitisers, avoid shaking hands and body contacts. Stay safe and stay healthy,” he added.

Opoku who previously had stint with Ghana Premier League side Berekum Chelsea is currently on loan at Amiens from Serie A side Udinese Calcio.
