Nigerian fans destroyed a lot of properties at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja and later beat one Caf official to death after the 1-1 stalemate with Ghana in the second leg of 2022 Fifa World Cup playoffs.
A Thomas Teye Partey’s goal meant that Ghana have qualified with an away goal advantage and that infuriated a large section of the supporters after the game who destroyed a lot of properties and endangered many lives
As a result, Zambian medical doctor Joseph Kabungo who was on duty as Doping officer from Caf for the game was beat to death.
According to Ghanaian sports journalist Atta Poku of Wontumi TV, “They beat him, he fell and they throded on him,” he wrote on Twitter.
” He lost consciousness was rushed to an ambulance closer to the Ghana dressing for CPR. The entire Ghanaian contingent watched on as resuscitation attempts were made with oxygen mask. He was taken to hospital later and now this. Sad,” he added.
Nigeria Football Federation is yet to release an official communique about the unfortunate incident as the official results also from postmortem is yet to be made public.
