The country’s football chief has admitted that the game’s image has been dragged through mud after match fixing allegations in the game between Ashanti Gold and Inter Allies

Ghana Football Association executive council member Dr. Randy Abbey has insisted that allegations of match fixing in the game involving Ashanti Gold and Inter Allies have dented image of Ghana Premier League.

The Miners thrashed Allies 7-0 on final day of the season at the Len Clay Sports Stadium on Saturday and the goals involved Hasmin Musa of Allies scoring two own goals.

After the game, the player admitted that he scored those goals on purpose since he had intel that the game had been fixed with a correct score of 5-0 and wanted to spoil it.

“Although, in one breath I am happy we have been able to complete the season, after a very long time -since the last two before this was cancelled. I am also disturbed and disappointed by the fact that the allegations of match fixing and violence will set the FA back. However, I am hopeful how the FA deals with this issue will demonstrate its willingness and capacity to deal with such matters in future,” Abbey told Asempa FM.

“It might be unfair to Hearts of Oak becuase in all the allegations I have heard, there is non involving Hearts of Oak so if you look at it from who won the league, the top 4 and the other positions, it might be unfair, but if you look at it from the point of view of the competition with all the allegations, it taints the competition.”

He added: “We have completed the season with a winner, and there is no evidence to suggest those positions have been compromised.

“Match fixing goes against the integrity of the competition, that is why we must go deep into this issue and if there are culprits, we find them and deal with them, so the GFA will deal with them with the relevant regulations, and let the Police deal with the criminal aspect of the issues.”
