Check out Danlad Ibrahim’s penalty save at Berekum and his reaction

The young shot-stopper became the hero as the Porcupine Warriors picked a vital point at the Golden City Park

Asante Kotoko shared the spoils goalless with Berekum Chelsea on matchday thirteen of Ghana Premier League at the Golden City Park in Berekum on Saturday.

After defeating Aduana Stars and Ashanti Gold in the last two games, Kotoko were hoping to make it three wins out of three.

However, they had to rather fight for a point at death in the game as goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim had to save a late penalty.

Defender Yussif Mubarik was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box by referee Akubiem but defender Stephen Anokye Badu who stepped up to effect the resulting kick fluffed the opportunity.

Kotoko, after 12 games lead the log with 27 points, four points above Aduana Stars who play on Sunday.

Benjamin Tetteh handed three-match ban; can only play when Ghana reach Afcon semifinals

The Ghana international will miss three matches following his dismissal at the weekend, as he was captured in camera punching another player during a post-match scuffle

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed Ghana striker Benjamin Tetteh a three-game ban following his red card against Gabon in the second game of Group C of 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on Friday.

The lanky striker, who lasted only five minutes after coming on Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew, punched a Gabon player after Algerian referee Lahlou Benbraham had brought the game to an end.

Andre Ayew first rushed towards the direction of Gabon coach Neveu to complain about how his side unfairly scored the equalizer in the 1-1 draw.

Ghana midfielder Daniel Kofi Kyereh went down and the ball was played out but Gabon failed to give the ball back to Ghana as a mark of replay following the restart and went on to score.

The disagreement led to Joseph Paintsil also going into the books of the referee but Tetteh rushed from the centre of the field to an already overcrowded area to join his teammates in a scuffle with Gabon players.

In the process, he was seen punching a Gabon player with a left hook and Caf has decided to hand him a three-match ban instead of missing two games.

Caf official statement on Tetteh

This means that Tetteh won’t play part of Ghana’s last group game against Comoros in Garoua on Tuesday. He will also miss the round of 16 and quarterfinals fixtures should Ghana progresses.

However, he will be cleared to play in the semifinals if the Black Stars reach that stage.

Ghana currently sit third in Group C with just a point and would have to defeat Comoros to stand a chance of progressing out of the group.

Berekum Chelsea 0-0 Asante Kotoko: Danlad Ibrahim’s late penalty save hands Porcupines priceless point

The Porcupine Warriors continued their unbeaten run after picking up a priceless point at the Golden City Park when all odds seemed to be against them

Asante Kotoko shared the spoils goalless with Berekum on matchday thirteen of Ghana Premier League at the Golden City Park in Berekum on Saturday.

After defeating Aduana Stars and Ashanti Gold in their two previous league games, Kotoko were hoping to make it three wins in a row.

Prosper Ogum Narteh made a single change in his squad as midfielder Richmond Lamptey was included in the starting line up after missing the game against Ashanti Gold due to suspension while Maxwell Agyemang returned from injury and was named on the bench.

Meanwhile, Chelsea named an unchanged side as the coach maintained the players that played against Medeama last weekend.

The first half was full of tension and lack of chances but Paul Attah Agyei was given an opportunity by the 18th minute, however, he could not guide his effort on goal.

Mbella Frank Thierry and Georges Mfegue combined to create an opening in Chelsea’s defence by the 35th minute but the danger was cleared by Stephen Anokye Badu.

After the break, Kotoko began to improve in the final third but failed to make count all the half chances that came their way.

On the 80th minute, substitute Kofi Owusu was awarded a controversial penalty by referee Jones Akubiem after Owusu’s shot was adjudged to have hit the hand of Kotoko defender.

However, Stephen Anokye Badu’s kick from the resulting penalty was perfectly saved by goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim.

Kotoko held on to pick one priceless point and have now amassed 27 points to still lead the log. They have one outstanding game against fierce rivals Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium and it has been scheduled to take place on February 20.

‘The value will be the same until Ghana changes its ways,” Majeed Waris slams poor Black Stars

The one-time Ghana leading striker has aimed a dig at the Black Stars after their poor showing at the 2021 Afcon

Ghana striker Majeed Abdul Waris has slammed the Black Stars after their shambolic performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations ongoing in Cameroon.

The Black Stars have failed to win any of their two games which has led them in a dicey situation to make it out of the group.

Ghana now have to defeat Comoros in the last game at all cost before they can stand a chance to progress to the next stage.

And Waris suggests that a lot of things must change starting from the top hierarchy of Ghana Football Association to how players are called up to represent the national teams ahead of major tournaments.

“Until we are not scared to do the right things, the value will always be the same,” Waris tweeted.

Before the tournament, there were a lot of concerns around the selection of some players including Dreams FC defender Philimon Baffour, Benjamin Tetteh and Richmond Boakye Yiadom.

Ghana have always qualified from the group stage of the Afcon since 2008.

Small teams use ‘diabolic’ tactics to score – Ayew hits back at Gabon

The Black Stars skipper was very disappointed and did not mince words after they shared the spoils with Gabon

Ghana captain Andre Ayew has slammed Gabon and labelled them as a small team after the 1-1 stalemate in the second game of Group in 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on Friday.

After Ayew had shot Ghana ahead, a late equaliser through a bizarre manner dashed the Black Stars’ hopes of picking their first win in the tournament.

Ghana defender Andy Yiadom got injured and the ball was kicked out by the Ghanaians. However, when the game restarted with a throw in, the Gabon players did not play it back to Ghana in a form of replay.

They rather caught the Black Stars unaware to score the equaliser and that led to a chaotic scene after the game with Ghana striker Benjamin Tetteh seeing red card as he hit one of the Gabon players in the process.

Ayew admitted his disappointment but insisted that Ghana will defeat Comoros in the last game to book their place in the next stage.

“It was very small of them, but then that is how it is with small teams,” Ayew said, as per Firstpost.

“We put the ball out of play, and it is fair play in football to give the ball back. Had they done that they would not have scored. They didn’t have any chances because they scored the goal from the only opening that came late in the game.

“Inshallah, we will still qualify. It is difficult but we will beat Comoros in the last game and qualify to the next stage of the competition,” he added.

Ayew’s goal against Gabon means he has become the fourth player to ever score in six different Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. He joins legendary Asamoah Gyan, Kalusha Bwalya and Samuel Eto’o.

Ayew is now Ghana’s all-time topscorer at the Africa Cup of Nations after bagging ten goals since making his debut in the competition as a teenager in 2008.

‘Fair Play is an English word and not an obligation in football,’ Gabon coach Neveu replies Milovan

The Panthers boss insists it is was not an obligation for this men to comply with fair play since it is always the discretion of who is in control of the ball

Ghana coach Patrice Neveu has clapped back at Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac following his side’s 1-1 draw against the Black Stars in Group C of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on Friday.

A late equaliser from Clermont Foot midfielder Jim Allevinah broke the hearts of Ghana which resulted into a chaotic scene after the game since the Ghanaians believed Gabon used unfair means to score.

Ghana defender Andy Yiadom got injured and the ball was kicked out by the Ghanaians but when the game restarted with a throw in, the Gabon players did not play it back to Ghana in a form of replay.

They rather caught the Black Stars unaware to score the equaliser and that led to a chaotic scene after the game with Ghana striker Benjamin Tetteh seeing red card as he hit one of the Gabon players in the process.

After the game, Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac vehemently complained about the incident but Gabon were adamant to his frustrations.

“What is fair play? The word fair play is an English word. We don’t have this word in French,” Neveu said after the game.

“Before you (Ghana) lecture me about Fair Play, you (Ghana) were involved in so many instances that do not show that you were practicing it exactly.

“We saw a chance to score and we capitalised on that to equalise. If Ghana wanted fair play, they should have kept playing the ball rather than falling down so easily just to delay the game. They don’t deserve any fair play from us,” he added.

The results means that Ghana sit third on Group C log with one point while Gabon now have four points from two games. The Black Stars would need to defeat Comoros on Tuesday to stand a chance of progressing from the group to the next stage of the competition.

Daniel Amartey – 6.90/10

Impress throughout the game as he made crucial blocks, won a series of aerial duels, and was impressive throughout the game. He had a passing accuracy of 91.7 percent – the highest by any player on the field of play.

Jordan Ayew – 6.95/10

“He’s clueless,” Ghanaian supporters in Cameroon slam Milovan; one threatens to shóót him after draw vs Gabon

The disappointed supporters poured out their frustrations following the Black Stars 1-1 stalemate with Gabon in the ongoing Afcon

Several disgruntled Ghanaian supporters in Cameroon poured out their frustrations about poor tactics and substitutions by Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac following the 1-1 draw with Gabon in Group C fixture of 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars took a deserving lead through Andre Ayew but Gabon left it late to equalise and broke the hearts of several Ghanaians who watched the game in the stadium and behind their television sets.

As a result, a popular Ghanaian supporter called Obour, who has followed the the Black Stars to major tournament insisted that the coach is poor and lacks the technical know-how to manage games.

The disgruntled supporter out of frustration added that he would’ve sacked the Serbian coach from the team’s camp and if possible shoot him if he had a gun.

“This coach is poor and not the best. Whenever I raise issues about him, they clap back at me that Obour is troublesome,” he said.

“The coach is very luck that there are police here to protect him or else I would’ve manhandled him. Because if him I’m not attending the last game of the group against Comoros.

“If I have gun right now, I would’ve shot him. I swear to God, he is breaking our hearts. The coach needs to be sacked,” he added.
