Legon Cities 0-0 Bechem United: Wasteful Augustine Okrah denies Hunters first away win in the Capital City

The former Premier League topscorer could not make the numerous opportunities count as Bechem failed in their attempt to win their first away game of the season

Legon Cities shared the spoils goalless with Bechem United on matchday thirteen of Ghana Premier League at the El Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on Monday.

After failing to record a win in their previous two visits against Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak, Bechem were poised to rewrite the story this time around against Legon who have been struggling to grind results especially at home.

It was Bechem who had the first chance at goal when Augustine Okrah was released by Francis Twene early in the game but the former Asante Kotoko forward saw his feeble shot saved by Legon goalkeeper William Emmanuel Essu.

Bechem thought they have been awarded a penalty when Legon defender Mohammed Issaka appeared to have handled the ball inside his box but the referee insisted it was outside the box.

Okrah fluffed yet another opportunity to put Bechem ahead as his shot went straight to goalkeeper Essu.

Croster Obuor Adu teared away from his marker and created a chance for Legon by the 33rd minute but his final pass to his teammate to score was blocked by Bechem defender Osei Kuffour.

Okrah was played through once again after the break but the forward failed to beat onrushing goalkeeper Essu after coming one-on-one with him.

Late in the game, Twene out-muscled his marker on the left flank but the youngster could not locate his teammate for a tap in.

Bechem are still fifth on the log with 22 points, five points behind Asante Kotoko while Legon have now moved to 13th position with 14 points, one point above relegation zone.

‘Ghana lacks quality striker like Asamoah Gyan for 2021 Afcon,’ Milovan tells Ghanaians to lower expectations.

The Serbian has suggested that Ghanaians should lower their expectations since the Black Stars lack a potential striker like Asamoah Gyan

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has advised Ghanaians to lower expectations as the Black Stars seek to gain qualification from the group stage of the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The Black Stars have struggled in the two games played so far and are yet to record a win after losing to Morocco and sharing the spoils with Gabon.

However, they must defeat Comoros in the final game of the group to stand a chance of progressing to the round of 16 as either runners up of Group C or one of the best four third-place countries.

And Milovan believes the squad in-depth cannot be likened to that of 2010 where the Black Stars reached the final of the Afcon and quarterfinals of Fifa World Cup since the team lacks potent strikers like Asamoah Gyan.

“We don’t have a player like Asamoah Gyan. We don’t have that type of a player to change things for the team with small chance,” Milovan said ahead of the game on Tuesday.

“Communication is not a problem and they understand me very well. The problem is just that we didn’t have enough time to prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations. We don’t have the same team like 2010. Not enough time for preparations,” he added.

Ghana sit third of Group C with a point and any results apart from a win against Comoros will see them exiting the tournament earlier than expected.

‘Current squad can’t be compared to Black Stars of 2010,’ says Milovan Rajevac ahead of Comoros game

The Black Stars boss has reiterated that the current crop of players can’t be compared to the side he first led to make the country proud

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has suggested that the current crop of players lack quality as compared to the team he once coached for 2010 Africa Cup of Nations and 2010 Fifa World Cup held in South Africa.

The 68-year-old Serbian tactician has come under intense pressure following the Black Stars poor start to the Afcon ongoing in Cameroon.

Ghana, after two games are yet to pick a win and currently sit third of Group C log. The four-time champions need a win at all cost against Comoros in the final Group game on Tuesday in order to stand a chance of making it to the next stage.

Although, a section of Ghanaians have raised concerns about his inability to communicate with the players in English Language and rather pass on information through his interpreter, Milovan says that has never been a problem

“Communication is not a problem and they understand me very well,” Milovan said at the pre-match conference ahead of Tuesday’s game.

“The problem is just that we didn’t have enough time to prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations. We don’t have the same team like 2010. Not enough time for preparations,” he added.

Milovan further stressed that Ghana lacks a potent striker like former captain Asamoah Gyan who can change the outcome of a game with even a half chance.

“We don’t have a player like Asamoah Gyan. We don’t have that type of a player to change things for the team with small chance,” he said.

“It was never a penalty,” Prosper Ogum reacts to Jones Akubiem’s controversial call against Kotoko

The Porcupine Warriors boss has added his voice to the controversial penalty that was awarded against his charges last weekend

Asante Kotoko coach Dr. Prosper Ogum Narteh has insisted that referee Jones Akubiem was wrong to have awarded a penalty against his side in the game with Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park on Saturday.

Very late in the game, referee Akubiem awarded a penalty to Chelsea after insisting that Kofi Owusu’s shot was blocked by Yussif Mubarik’s hand in the box.

However, Stephen Anokye Badu’s resulting kick from the spot was perfectly saved by Danlad.

“You [journalist] have said it that the ball hit the stomach so if you are telling me this, then it means my thoughts are right because you had the opportunity to watch the replay,” Ogum said after the game.

“So if you are telling me that the ball hit the stomach, then it means it was never a penalty. You are telling me so I’m basing on what you said,”

Ogum also heaped praise on Danlad and revealed that he spoke to the young shot-stopper before the penalty was taken.

“I was very confident. I you saw me, I called Danlad and spoke to him. I told him to keep his calm, watch the ball and pick his spot and that was exactly what he did to save the penalty. He was good and saved us from defeat,” he said.

Kotoko despite the stalemate with Chelsea are still leading the Premier League table with 27 points, three points above Aduana Stars who also shared the spoils 1-1 with Accra Lions.
