Gold Stars 1-1 (5-6 pen) Bechem United: Hunters make it to Round of 16

The Ahafo giants shocked the Premier League debutants to make it to the next stage of the FA Cup on Thursday

Bechem United defeated Bibiani Gold Stars 6-5 on penalties after 1-1 in regulation time to progress to the Round 16 of 2021/22 FA Cup at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani.

The two clubs, before today’s meeting, had met in the league two months ago where Gold Stars pipped Bechem 1-0 and they were hoping to replicate that feat.

However, Bechem United took the lead this time around by the 20th minute after Augustine Okrah played Clinton Duodo through to score the first goal.

Gold Stars thought they had equalised three minutes later but an effort from Yakubu Haqq was ruled out as offside.

However, Gold Stars equalised seven minutes later through Haqq in the second time of asking with a nice finish.

Although, both clubs came close to score very late in the game, they could not make their chances count.

Bechem, however, got lucky and won on penalties 6-5 to make it to the next stage.

“Stop tarnishing my image because I don’t want to start talking,” Alfred Duncan warns Ghana FA

The Serie A player has advised the leadership of the country’s football governing body to distance him from their discussions after a disappointing Afcon campaign

Ghana midfielder Alfred Duncan has aimed a dig at Ghana Football Association president due to his recent interviews after the Black Stars shambolic performance at 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Following the Black Stars shocking elimination from the group stage, after defeats to Morocco and Comoros, Ghana FA boss Kurt Okraku has insisted that coach Milovan Rajevac was not influenced during the selection of players.

Although, some Ghanaians have been mentioning names like Alfred Duncan, Emmanuel Gyasi and Jeffrey Schlupp who play every weekend in Premier League and Italian Serie A, Okraku insisted that every player that was selected for the tournament deserved the slot since there was no player like Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi’s type who was ignored and Duncan has fired back.

“People [are] tarnishing my image in Ghana. I don’t want to start talking for Ghanaians to connect the dots so please let’s respect ourselves,” Duncan tweeted.

It would be recalled that before the Afcon, reports earlier emerged that Duncan had turned down an opportunity to play for Ghana because he wasn’t ready and the player later revealed that that was not the case as he held several talks with Milovan Rajevac to explain to why he will not be able to honour the invitation.

“No Ghanaian coach can handle Black Stars than Milovan Rajevac,” GFA Exco member Oduro Sarfo insists

The former Berekum Chelsea chief believes the Serbian coach must be given another opportunity despite failing woefully at the Afcon

Ghana Football Association executive council member Nana Oduro Sarfo has insisted that Milovan Rajevac is the best man to coach the Black Stars despite the poor performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations ongoing in Cameroon.

The Black Stars were kicked out from the tournament in the group stage after losing to Morocco and minnows Comoros as well as drawing against Gabon.

Although, a large section of Ghanaians believe Milovan must be sacked and a Ghanaian appointed as the interim coach to handle the Black Stars, Sarfo believes no Ghanaian has the requisite knowledge to manage the team at this point.

Former coach Kwesi Appiah, Ibrahim Tanko, Sellas Tetteh among others are currently available.

“We had a Ghanaian coach sometime back and what was the results..? Sometimes, he asked the management members to help him in players selection,” Oduro Sarfo told Cape Coast-based Darling FM in an interview.

“I know the GFA President is eager to equip coaches. It is not official yet but he [GFA Boss] is planning to send some coaches outside for attachment, until then, no local coach is ready to handle the Black Stars. No Ghanaian coach can handle the Black Stars now,” he added.

The Black Stars arrived in the country at dawn of Thursday and nicodemusly went into their homes since they hugely disappointed Ghanaians.

Ghana will return to international duties in March as they await their opponents for the final round of 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

The winner after the two legs will automatically qualify to the World Cup to be staged in Qatar.

Black Stars nicodemusly arrive in Ghana at 3AM after disgraceful Afcon performance

The Black Stars sneaked into the country at dawn following their unimpressive performance at the Africa Cup of Nations

Ghana’s contingent arrived in the country at dawn on Thursday following their poor performance at 2021 Africa Cup of Nations ongoing in Cameroon.

The Black Stars failed to win any of their three group games as they lost to Morocco and minnows Comoros as well as sharing the spoils with Gabon.

The elimination has sparked a lot of discussions around the future of Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac as a section of Ghanaians feel he should sacked. Others also feel that Ghana FA president Kurt Okraku should honourably resign from his position.

However, the FA boss has rejected such suggestions and feels Ghanaians should be considerate with their criticisms.

“I don’t think it is a topic that we should discuss,” Kurt Okraku told Asempa FM.

“In 2006, we exited at the group phase and we never called for the heads of the people in charge.

“We have played in two finals and after failing to win the trophy nobody called for the exit of people.

“I know people are angry by the performance of the team but I don’t think asking me to resign is the right thing but we have to stick together and fix the situation,” he added.

Milovan Rajevac is expected to submit his report tot the FA and wait on the decision to be taken afterwards whether he will be allowed to continue as Ghana coach or a new person will be appointed to play the World Cup qualifiers in March.

‘I’ll not resign as Ghana FA president,’ Kurt Okraku tells Ghanaians after terrible Afcon

The football association boss has rejected suggestions that he should vacate his position after the Black Stars disappointing display at the Afcon

Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku has insisted that he will not resign from his position despite call from a section of Ghanaians.

The FA boss has come under intense pressure after Ghana failed to progress from their group at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. The Black Stars picked just a point as they were defeated by minnows Comoros as well as Morocco and could only pick a draw against Gabon.

The results means that Ghana experienced their worse ever Afcon participation since 1963.

“I don’t think it [resignation] is a topic that we should discuss,” Kurt Okraku told Asempa FM.

Okraku was elected as Ghana FA president in 2019 to replace Kwesi Nyantakyi who was banned from football after being found guilty of bribery and corruption following an investigation by undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

“Philimon Baffour deserves every Black Stars chance,” Kurt Okraku chides Ghanaians despite Afcon elimination

The country’s football governing body boss has defended the beleaguered defender and says he deserves every opportunity handed him in the Black Stars

Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku has insisted that defender Philimon Baffour deserves all the opportunities he has been given in the Black Stars despite the criticisms by a section of Ghanaians.

Baffour has been called to the senior national team eight times but failed to play a single minute in the process including at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana were bundled out of the tournament following defeats to Morocco and Comoros as well as sharing the spoils 1-1 with Gabon.

“I think you are being unfair to Philimon Baffour. The young man is a Ghanaian just like every other person. He deserves the opportunity. He is the vice-captain of Dreams FC. He is a U20 champion,” Kurt Okraku told Benedict Kwadwo Mensah on Asempa FM in an interview.

“We should not treat him as an outcast because he is a good footballer and will one day prove that when given the opportunity,” he added.

Sam Adams scores four & assist another as Aduana Stars annihilate Freedom Fighters in FA Cup

The midfielder was on fire as Aduana Stars humbled the lower-tier side to make it to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup

Sam Adams scored four goals in one match for the first time as Aduana Stars hammered Division Two side Kato Freedom Fighters 5-0 in round 32 of FA Cup at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park in Dormaa Ahenkro on Wednesday.

After Freedom Fighters cut the supplies from Aduana midfielders to the strikers in the early embers of the game, Adams found an opening in the visitors’ defence by the 13th minute to put the Premier League side in front with a nice header.

Six minutes later, Adams latched onto a pass from his teammate and raced through the visitors’ midfield to slot in his second of the day with a long range shot.

Brabby Kofigo added another goal for Aduana when he connected a pass from Adams against the run of play as the Dormaa-based club made it 3-0 to demoralized the lower-tier side.

Adams made it 4-0 by 65th minute with another nice finish after a defensive blunder by Freedom Fighters and then wrapped up the mauling with another goal very late in the game.

Aduana have now qualified to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup and their ambitions to win a double this season looks on course as they also sit second on the Premier League log with 24 points, three points behind leaders Asante Kotoko.
