Mixed feelings: Some Kotoko supporters happy despite defeat to RTU

The Porcupine Warriors dropped points in Tamale but that didn’t stop some of their supporters from celebrating

Asante Kotoko were pipped 2-1 in Tamale by RTU on matchday 25 of Ghana Premier League but some section of the supporters were not disturbed.

This was because Bechem United who follow them on the log lost 3-2 in Techiman therefore the eight-point gap between them was intact.

Also, to some of the supporters, they are natives of Tamale who would relish to see their boyhood club RTU surviving relegation so if it meant defeating Kotoko to stay up, it is not a big case for them.

I’m not sure I will play for Ghana at the World Cup – Brighton defender Lamptey

The youngster has been consistently performing at club level but he is skeptical about his chances of representing the country of his descent at the upcoming Fifa World Cup

Brighton and Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey has further fuelled doubts about his nationality switch ahead of the 2022 Fifa World Cup to be staged in Qatar.

The 21-year-old was born in England to Ghanaian parents and although he has previously represented the European giants at the youth level, he is still eligible to play for Ghana.

After an incredible showing in the shocking 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League on Saturday, Lamptey was asked if he would relish to play for West African giants Ghana as the Black Stars will be among five of Africa’s representatives at the mundial.

“I’m not sure yet,” Lamptey as quoted as saying by Ghanasoccernet.

“I have to just keep focusing on my club football. Take a game by game and then we’ll see [what happens in future],” he added.

Ghana coach Otto Addo is believed to be looking around for additional players to his already established squad and Lamptey is among such talents.

Apart from the Brighton defender, Frankfurt winger Ansgar Knauff, Bristol City striker Antoine Semenyo are also on the radar.

The Black Stars have been paired with Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay in Group H.
