Akummey tips Yaya Raman to take Ghana Premier League by storm

The youngster has been highly rated to make a name for himself this season after completing his switch to the Ainyinase-based club

Karela United new defender Abdul Yaya Raman has been tipped by pundits to make a huge impact in the upcoming Ghana Premier League season.

Yaya Raman recently completed a move from lower-division side Tema XI to Kalera after signing a one-year deal.

The center-back is expected to play a key role in coach Kobby Mensah’s team as Karela hope to improve on last season’s performance.

The 19-year-old’s manager Alex Akumey believes he has no doubt he will take the league by storm.

“I have known Yaya Raman for some years now and he is one guy who is so determined and very dedicated to his work,” Akummey said.

“I have no doubt that he will be great for Karela in the coming season,” he added.

Raman is expected to make his Premier League debut on September 8 when Karela host debutants Tamale City on opening day at Crosby Awuah Memorial Stadium.

Simba SC to miss nine ‘key’ players ahead of friendly with Asante Kotoko

The Tanzanian giants will be without nine players when they lock horns with Porcupine Warriors in an international friendly

Simba SC will likely be without nine of their first team players when they face Ghanaian champions Asante Kotoko in an international friendly in Omdurman on Sunday.

The players did not travel with the team to Sudan this week as they have been invited for international duties by Tanzania Football Federation ahead of 2023 CHAN qualifiers against

They include first choice goalkeeper and captain Aishi Manula and second choice goalkeeper Beno Kakolanya, Shomary Kapombe, Habib Kyombo, Kibu Denis and Kennedy Juma.

Also missing will be assistant captain Mohammed Hussein ‘Tshabalala’ and Jonas Mkude who are also in the national team camp.

However, players like Augustine Okrah, Mohamed Ouattara, Moses Phiri, Victor Akpan, Nasoro Kapama and Dejan Georgijevic will be available for selection.

Kotoko, on the other hand, will miss goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim and strikers Mbella Etouga and Mfegue Rodrigues.

The Kumasi-based club suffered 2-0 and 5-0 defeats against Al Hilal on Tuesday and Friday respectively and would hope to amend the situation in order to calm down their supporters back home.

With Simba preparing to face Malawi’s Nyasa Big Bullets in Caf Champions League preliminary round, Kotoko are also hoping to use this game as a dress rehearsal for their game against Burkina Faso side Kadiogo in the prelims.

Asante Kotoko were brushed aside 5-0 by Sudanese champions Al Hilal in a pre-season friendly in Omdurman on Friday.

Ahead of the game, new coach Seydou Zerbo made several changes in the starting line up that lost to Hilal in the first game on Tuesday as goalkeeper Frederick Asare came in for Cameroonian goalkeeper Pouaty Moise D’assise while Emmanuel Sarkodie also started the game.

Kotoko’s defence were in total shambles this evening as two free-kicks were scored by Hilal.

A brace from Maccabi Lillipo and other goals from Abdul Agagon, Mubarak Abdulai and GoodLuck did the damage for Hilal who were already up by 3-0 at the break.

Kotoko will have to double their efforts as they take on Tanzanian giants Simba SC in another international friendly on Sunday.

The youngster has finally put pen to paper on final day of the transfer season as Kotoko hope to strengthen their squad

Asante Kotoko have signed left-back John Tedeku from WAFA on transfer deadline day in an undisclosed fee.

The 20-year-old who made his Premier League debut for WAFA at age 17 in the 1-0 win over Karela in Dec 2019, is expected to strengthen Kotoko’s defence after the transfer of Imoro Ibrahim to Al Hilal.

Tedeku joined WAFA at a young age and has since been at the club until came for his services.

The Porcupine Warriors have altered their pre-season plans and will now remain in Africa to prepare for the upcoming season

Asante Kotoko have officially cancelled their decision to tour Turkey as part of their pre-season following issues related to visa acquisition.

Last week, the club’s top hierarchy revealed that there have been issues related to the visa processing of players and officials which had delayed their plans to leave the country.

As a result, they played two friendly games against Panthers FC and Army FC in Accra to fine tune.

Due to their inability to travel to Europe, Kotoko will engage Al Hilal in an international friendly in Sudan on August 23.

The club’s leadership are also hoping to get another friendly game with Nigeria champions Rivers United four days later in order to wrap up their preparations for the new season.

Mbella Etouga ‘rushed’ to hospital – Kotoko supporters chief Dankwah confirms

The Cameroonian striker has not played a part in the club’s pre-season friendly due to ill health

Asante Kotoko striker Mbella Etouga was rushed to hospital on Friday when Kotoko thrashed lower division side Army FC 4-0 in a pre-season friendly.

The Cameroonian, who was on form last season after scoring 21 goals, is yet to play a single minute in Kotoko’s pre-season games which has raised concerns among the supporters over his future at the club since he was linked with Udinese.

However, the first vice chairman of Kotoko’s National Circles Council, Nana Kwame Dankwah, has refuted reports that Etouga may leave and further explained the situation.

“Mbella Etouga and Mfegue are still at the club and part of the team for the new season. They did not dress in the game against Panthers FC but Mfegue dressed just that the coach opted to rest him,” Dankwah said during a Twitter Space on Saturday morning.

“In the game against Army FC, I arrived at the venue late and when I asked of Mbella, I was told he has been sent to the hospital in a car. He was not feeling well that is why he did not play in that game,” he added.

The Porcupine Warriors were initially scheduled to travel to Turkey for their pre-season tour but issues concerning visa processing halted their plans.

As a result, they have since camped in Accra and played two friendly matches so far against Panthers FC and Army FC.

With barely three weeks to the start of the new Premier League season, it looks quite possible that Kotoko may completely abandon their journey to Turkey as they have lined up an international friendly against Hilal.

The game is expected to be played on August 23 but the venue is yet to be confirmed.
