‘There’s a problem in Kotoko & I’ll tell my story one day,” Felix Annan heats up against Maxwell Konadu

The Porcupine Warriors captain has admitted he is not happy with how his manager treated him in the 2019-20 season which was truncated due to COVID-19 pandemic

Asante Kotoko captain Felix Annan has revealed that his is not impressed with the manner how he lost his position to second-choice goalkeeper Kwame Baah during the 2019-20 Ghana Premier League campaign.

Annan, after an incredible start to the season, lost his place after taking two weeks off to marry his long-time girlfriend in Dormaa Ahenkro.

Although, Annan returned on time from his honeymoon, head coach Maxwell Konadu opted to stick to Baah for the rest of the season. The situation led to Annan losing his place in Ghana’s national team to Hearts of Oak shot-stopper Richard Attah.

“[Keylon] Navas got injured in PSG’s UEFA Champions League game against Atalanta in the quarterfinals but he reclaimed his place after being passed fit and went on to play in the final against Bayern Munich although second goalkeeper [Sergio] Rico kept a clean sheet and helped the club win against Leipzig in the semifinals,” Annan told Tropical Radio in Germany.

”If it was in our country [Ghana], they would’ve told Navas that his replacement had a clean sheet so he should continue to stay on the bench. These are some of the things I hear in Ghana in my situation and I smile.

”I won’t talk too much because of the respect I have for the fans of Asante Kotoko and the love they’ve shown me in these difficult times. I appreciate it but I will have my time to tell the world my side of the story,” he said.

”If we are doing things right we should do things right because I kept asking myself that why is it that after each game there is a conversation about me, why is it so?

”That means there is a problem if there is no problem there won’t be a conversation but I (Felix Annan) will not give up until the world is over,” he added.

VGMA: Kuame Eugene crowned 2020 Artist of the Year as SarkNation bleeds

The 2020 edition of Ghana Music Awards took place over the weekend despite initial postponement due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Held on Friday and Saturday evenings, several industry players were rewarded for their immense contribution within the year under review.

However, the biggest casualties on the night were Dancehall legends Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy who are currently facing a ban following their clash at last year’s edition.

Despite Sarkodie and hhisfan base brimmin with confidence to clinch the topmost award of the year since rivals Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy aren’t part of the scheme, he was surprisingly beaten by Kuami Eugene.

‘Esso is a good player but his departure could bring blessings to Hearts of Oak- former teammate reveals

The former FA Cup winner is optimistic the Phobians will be able to achieve success in the new season despite the departure of one of the fans favourites

Hearts of Oak striker Abednego Tetteh has urged the club’s supporters to remain calm despite the departure of star forward Joseph Esso.

According to Tetteh, despite the club failingto extend Esso’s contract when it ran out in July, the current squad will be able to achieve success without him amid his qualities since someone within the squad will fill in his shoe to help the Phobians end their long run without a major trophy since they lifted the Premier League title in 2009.

“Whatever happens in life is good. At times, we don’t understand why certain things do happen in this world but we all know Esso is not a child, he’s a grown-up and knows what is good for him,” Tetteh told Hello FM.

“If he feels like playing for Hearts again or travel abroad that is good for him. We all hope to progress in life. Howeve, I think we should all forget about his departure because will we call him to come and play if he dies?

“We should take it like we have lost something that we’ll not get again and focus on the league when football returns after the long break,” he said.

He added: “No one can dispute Esso’s talent. Although I have a not played with him in games before and only watched him, I must say he is a good player. His presence could help us win the league or lose it as well.

“We will discover someone in his absence. It’s an opportunity for someone too. No one knew Daniel Aftiyie before the truncated league began. There are others who don’t get a chance to play because of Esso.”

According to reports in the local media, Esso could join rivals Asante Kotoko following the appointment of Nana Yaw Amponsah as the new chief executive officer of the club.

Emmanuel Gyasi and Spezia Calcio make history as they secure maiden Serie A promotion

The Ligurians succumbed to a 1-0 home defeat against Frosinone but still made history as they’ve booked their place in next season’s Serie A

Ghanaian striker Emmanuel Gyasi has helped Spezia Calcio to book a place in 2020-21 Serie A season for the first time in the club’s history despite losing 1-0 to Frosinone at home in the second leg of the Serie B promotion play-off final on Thursday.

After winning the first leg 1-0 on Sunday thanks to Emmanuel Gyasi’s strike, they were started the return fixture at Stadio Alberto Picco on a slow pace despite Andrea Beghetto hitting Frosinone’s post by the 12th minute.

Frosinone took the lead after the break after Andrija Novakovich and Camillo Ciano combined to a long pass from goalkeeper Francesco Bardi to set up Marcus Rohden on 61st minute.

However, Spezia goalkeeper Simone Scuffet made some good saves to keep the scores at 1-0 as Frosinone made several dangerous moves into his his box as they searched for another goal to kill the game.

Gyasi, who is on the radar of Black Stars coach C.K Akonnor, was replaced by the 73rd minute with G. Mastinu and despite Spezia losing the game, they have secured a place in the Serie A since they finished (third) above Frosinone (eighth) on the league log in the regular season.

Spezia have joined Benevento and Crotone as the three clubs from the Serie B to secure promotion.

Emmanuel Gyasi on target as Spezia edge closer to historic Serie A promotion

The youngster capped a wonderful season with one of the most important goals as Spezia look favourite to qualify to the top-flight next season

Ghanaian striker Emmanuel Gyasi was on target when Spezia Calcio made a huge statement in their bid to qualify to play in 2021/22 Serie A when they defeated Frosinine 1-0 in the first leg of the playoffs on Sunday.

The 25-year-old opened the scoring by the 21st minute with a wonderful finish after connecting an assist from Guillio Maggiore to silence the hosts.

Despite Spezia having several decent chances, they couldn’t double their lead before half time.

After the break, Frosinone doubled their efforts as they searched for the equaliser but were unable to break down the resilient defence of their visitors.

Gyasi, who has now scored 12 goals this season, was cautioned on 73rd minute following a bad challenge on his marker.

The return leg will take place on Thursday at Stadio Alberto Picco and the winner after the two rounds will join Benevento and Crotone as the three sides to earn promotion.

Official: Evans Oduro completes move to Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy in Zambia

The youngster has landed an opportunity to prove his worth with the Super Division side as they hope to avoid relegation

Zambian Premier League side Kabwe Youth Academy have confirmed that they have signed Ghanaian wonder kid Evans Oduro after reaching an agreement with lower divison side Final Whistle Soccer Academy.

The 20-year-old signed a one-and-half-a-year contract and he is set to make his debut on August 2 in an away game against Green Buffalos when the league resumes after the long break due to Coronavirus disease.

Oduro, after a short stint in South Africa with Pretoria City Soccer Academy, caught the eye of Kabwe’s scouts and joined them on a two-week trial before he cemented his place with his skills and split defence passes.

Speaking to AshesGyamera.com, Oduro recounted his early disappointment outside Ghana and believes this is a golden opportunity to prove himself to his club’s top hierarchy.

“I’m very excited to have been given this opportunity to play in the Zambia top-flight. I’ve worked really hard to earn this chance and I won’t disappoint,” he said.

“I thank the club’s top hierarchy for the belief they had in me during my initial stay when I was having my trial. I thank them and hope to repay their faith and make the supporters proud,” he added.

Oduro’s first home game at Geodfrey Chitalu Stadium will likely be against Mufulira Wanderers on August 6.

Andre Ayew scores fourteenth goal of the season in Swansea’s win over Sheffield Wednesday

The Black Stars skipper won the day for the Jack Army as they push up for a place in the play offs

Ghana captain Andre Ayew was on target when Swansea City defeated Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 in English Championship on Sunday.

The 30-year-old scored his fourteenth goal of the season as Steve Cooper’s men continue to push for a place in playoff in their bid to qualify to the Premier League next season.

After a pulsating first half which ended goalless, and the hosts having only three touches in Sheffield’s penalty area, Ryan Brewster gave Swansea the lead by the 52nd minute with a nice finish.

Ayew then stepped up to slot in a penalty after Roberts was brought down by Adam Reach six minute after the hour mark to further improve his personal goal scoring record in a season.

Deep in additional time, substitute Nuhiu headed in a cross to reduce the deficit for the visitors but it was too little too late as Swansea held on to record a win.

Swansea, who will travel to St. Andrew’s Park to face Birmingham City in midweek, are currently four points behind arch rivals Cardiff City who occupy the last slot for play off.

Memories: Ghana coach Akonnor sacked by Asante Kotoko on this day

The Porcupine Warriors parted ways with the gaffer despite leading them to the group stages of Caf Confederation Cup

Exactly a year ago today, Asante Kotoko surprisingly sacked their coach Charles Kwablah Akonnor after barely a year in charge of the club.

The former Ghana captain had had an incredible  time with the Kumasi-based club since he guided them to the group stages of 2018 Caf Confederation Cup and won the Normalisation Committee Tier One Cup.

However, he was reassigned to become the ‘non-existing’ technical director of the club in Kotoko’s attempt to avoid punishment.

Akonnor later confirmed his exit and said: Yes, it’s true I am no more the coach of Kotoko. I have been asked to step aside but to take over as technical director. I can’t comment any further”

Few weeks later, Akonnor dragged Kotoko to Ghana FA’s Player Status Committee for wrongful dismissal and demanded salaries for two years, league trophy cash and entitlement for guiding the club to Champions League group stage. Kotoko were charged to pay him $34,000 as compensation.

Following his exit, Kjetil Zachariasen was brought on board to fill the vacant position but he couldn’t live up to expectations as Kotoko failed to even replicate the feat the club achieved under Akonnor as they were bundled out of Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively.

Today, Akonnor has been appointedas the head coach of Ghana after Kwasi Appiah’s contract was not renewed by Kurt Okraku’s led Ghana FA. He has been tasked to win 2022 Africa Cup of Nations since the country is without a major trophy after winning the 1982 edition, as well as qualify to 2022 Fifa World Cup to be staged in Qatar.

Kotoko, on the other hand , are currently managed by Maxwell Konadu, who made a return to the club after six years.

Ghana FA ExCO unanimously cancel 2019-20 season on health grounds

The country’s football association highest decision making body has agreed to call the 2019-20 season null and void following the COVID-19 pandemic

Ghana Football Association has announced that 2019-20 season for all levels have been cancelled with immediate effect.

On Tuesday, June 30 2020, an executive council meeting was held to finalise the way forward of the sport in the country after Ghana president Nana Akufo-Addo’s refusal to lift the ban placed on contact sports and social distancing since March 16 due to the spread of Coronavirus disease.

Although, the football association was optimistic of reaching an agreement with the seat of government and even benefit from the COVID-19 stimulus package, their plans took a nosedive when they were swerved at the eleventh hour.

Over 100 people have lost their lives due to Coronavirus disease in Ghana with the death toll rising to almost 70 within the last 30 days since only 38 people died between March and May.

“The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has taken a decision to cancel the 2019/2020 football season following a marathon meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at the GFA Secretariat in Accra.
Details soon!,” an official statement read.

Per the recent release, no club will likely be relegated or promoted which means that King Faisal FC among others, have been automatically given another lifeline as they will be part of the 2020-21 season when it finally kicks off somewhere in September this year.
