‘Kotoko miss Baba Yara Sports Stadium,’ – Maxwell Konadu blames draw with Eleven Wonders on neutral ground

The Porcupine Warriors boss suggests his charges could have done better against Wonders if they played in their favourite home ground

Asante Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu has already sent a signal that he is unhappy playing his home games at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Despite going in front thanks to Kwame Poku’s debut goal, the Porcupine Warriors failed to record a win on opening day of Ghana Premier League after 1-1 stalemate with debutants Techiman Eleven Wonders on Sunday.

Substitute Prince Okraku snatched a late equaliser to share the spoils.

“The playing of our home games away from home [Baba Yara Sports Stadium] started from last season and it hasn’t been helping us,” Konadu iinsisted after the game.

“It’s always better to be in front of your home fans, playing in Kumasi means a lot to the team than having your games on a neutral ground.

“However, this is the first league match and we wanted to secure the three points but unfortunately it couldn’t happen. So we’ll still work hard in the subsequent games. Its just the first match.”

“The team is still gelling together after the pre-season and I believe that as time goes on, the team will become better than we did against Eleven Wonders,” he added.

Next on Kotoko’s roaster is an away trip to Golden City Park in Berekum next weekend to lock horns with Berekum Chelsea who also picked an away draw against Legon Cities FC.

‘Asante Kotoko were lucky with the draw,’ says Eleven Wonders boss Osei-Fosu

The Citizens boss believes they could’ve picked all the points against the Porcupine Warriors in Accra

Techiman Eleven Wonders coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu says he rues his side’s missed opportunities following the 1-1 draw against Asante Kotoko on opening day of 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season.

The debutants came from a goal down to share spoils after substitute Prince Okraku levelled Kwame Poku’s opener for Kotoko late in the game with a wonderful finish.

Wonders were the better side in the first half and could’ve scored at least two goals but their strikers fluffed every opportunity that came their way.

“Asante Kotoko were the second best and had to lose this game because we played better than them. I think they didn’t even deserve a point,” Fosu said after the game.

“We knew how they will play so we limited them. If you watched the game critically, you will see that none of their fullbacks completed a single cross or a decisive pass into our box throughout the game.

“We are going back to Techiman with a point and we feel like we have missed a glorious chance to record our first victory in the Ghana Premier League. We will build on this and hope our next game will be better than this,” he added.

Eleven Wonders will play their first-ever home game in the Premier League next weekend when they welcome Ebusua Dwarfs to the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman, while Kotoko will travel to Golden City Park in Berekum to face Berekum Chelsea on matchday two.

AshantiGold coach Milovan Cirkovic unimpressed with squad after Karela United stalemate

The Miners boss has openly criticised his players attitude and performance after sharing the spoils at home with Karela

AshantiGold coach Milovan Cirkovic says he is not satisfied with the players available to him after his debut game in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

The Obuasi-based club shared the spoils 2-2 with Karela United at the Len Clay Sports Stadium after goals from Diawisie Taylor and Samuel Ofori cancelled Appiah McCarthy and Hans Kwoffie’s strikes.

“I have had a very short time with the squad and I think that’s why we couldn’t play to our best against Karela United,” Cirkovic said after the game.

“We must learn more and more. I have to work hard with them until when I will be satisfied.

“For now, I am not satisfied with the squad tactically and technically,” he added.

Cirkovic faces a tall mountain next weekend as he will travel to Accra Sports Stadium to face giants Hearts of Oak in his first away fixture.
