Asante Kotoko to blow $195,000 in first away game of Caf Champions League

The Porcupine Warriors are reportedly planning to go to Mauritania with a chartered flight for their away game in the preliminary round of the Caf Champions League

Asante Kotoko management led by chief executive officer Nana Yaw Amponsah has presented a budget of $195,000 to the board of directors for their first game in the 2020/21 Caf Champions League, AshesGyamera.com understands.

The Porcupine Warriors have been paired with Mauritanian giants FC Nouadhibou in the preliminary round of the competition and would travel to the Southern African country this weekend.

According to our checks, Kotoko are hoping to travel with a 30-man contingent which will include 18 players, technical team, medical team and management team members.

Due to Coronavirus disease, which has hit every part of the world, Kotoko’s plan is to use Ghana’s air force plane for their trip and the budget includes their hotel, food and other miscellaneous.

According to reports in the local media, Kotoko may be without goalkeeper and captain Felix Annan who picked a knee injury in their game against Berekum Chelsea on Sunday since he would have to pass late fitness test.

This means that they will travel with Kwame Baah and Danlad Ibrahim as the second choice goalkeeper since Razak Abalora is also yet to recover from COVID-19 he picked up while on international duties with Ghana last week if the situation doesn’t change.

Maxwell Konadu has come under increasing pressure to at least pick a draw in this game since his side has had a slow start to the Ghana Premier League this season. They have picked two draws after two games in the top-flight.

Maxwell Konadu blames referee Daniel Laryea after stalemate with Berekum Chelsea

The Porcupine Warriors boss insists the outcome of their game in Berekum could have been different had the knight of the whistle ‘been fair’ on the day

Asante Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu is holding FIFA referee Daniel Laryea responsible for their 1-1 stalemate against Berekum Chelsea in Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors took the lead through Kwame Poku by the 18th minute and looked certain to pick their first win of the season.

However, a last minute tackle by Adom Frimpong on Samuel Amankonah resulted in a free-kick which was perfectly scored by Emmanuel Clottey with relatively the last kick of the game.

And Konadu could not believe his eyes as pressure keeps mounting on him after matchday two.

“It was a very good and tough match. I said that we came to win and that is what we wanted to do exactly,” Konadu told StarTimes TV.

“Had it not been because of [his mistake the day would have been ours]. He’s a referee whom I respect so much. I have a lot respect for the referee but then in the last minute I didn’t know what came over him.

“However, that is football so we accept it and will move on to the next game,” he added.

Kotoko are winless after two games and will host Great Olympics next in the league. However, they will switch their attention this weekend to play in the preliminary round of the Caf Champions League against Mauritanian club FC Nouadhibou.

Evans Oduro’s assist helps Kabwe Youth to record victory in Zambia

The midfielder had a wonderful weekend as he propelled his side to pick yet another win in the Zambia second-tier

Ghanaian international Evans Oduro saw full action when Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy defeated Police College 2-0 in the Zambia National League on Saturday.

After an end to end action in the opening 45 minutes, where chances became premium, Kabwe improved after the break in search of the first goal.

Oduro teamed up with Thomas Lakifi to set up Kabuku Moango by the 63rd minute but the striker’s last ditch effort was saved.

However, Kabuku finally found the opener by the 83rd minute after connecting a pass from a corner-kick to break the resilient wall of the visitors.

Five minutes later, Evans Oduro took a ball from the right flank and went pass his marker before playing Lafiki through and the midfielder calmly slotted his shot beyond the reach of the onrushing goalkeeper.

Kabwe, who are hoping to get qualification back to the top-flight next season, will travel to Lusaka to face Kafue Celtic next weekend.

Berekum Chelsea 1-1 Asante Kotoko: Clottey’s equaliser pushes Maxwell Konadu closer to the exit door

The Porcupine Warriors are without a win after two games as Maxwell Konadu’s job comes under intense scrutiny

Asante Kotoko failed to pick their first win of the season on matchday two of Ghana Premier League as they shared the spoils 1-1 against Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park in Berekum on Sunday.

Kotoko headed into the game with a lot of hopes as they were looking forward to clinch their first win of the season having drawn 1-1 against Techiman Eleven Wonders on opening day in Accra.

Osman Ibrahim came close to get the opener by the eighth minute but his effort was saved by Chelsea’s goalkeeper.

However, Kwame Poku opened the scoring for Kotoko by the 19th minute after he connected a pass from striker Osman Ibrahim. This was Poku’s second goal in a row.

After the break, Chelsea pushed men forward for the equaliser but efforts from Kofi Owusu ‘Deco’ and Stephen Sarfo were saved by Felix Annan.

However, Chelsea pulled even on the stroke of full time through substitute Emmanuel Clottey.

The former goal king and Kotoko striker sent in a wonderful free-kick to shock his former employers.

The defeat, regardless of the total dominance by Kotoko, has brought a lot of pressure on Maxwell Konadu who was expected to perform wonderfully this season since he signed ten new players including Brazilian Fabio Gama, Sulley Muniru and Emmanuel Keyekeh, among others.

Breaking News: Legon Cities sack Goran Barjaktarevic after slow start in Ghana Premier League

The Royals have parted ways with their Serbian tactician after failing to win any of their opening two games

Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities FC have mutually terminated their contract with Serbian head coach Goran Barjaktarevic after a ‘horrible’ start to the 2020/21 season, AshesGyamera.com understands.

The 51-year-old has become the first coach to be shown the exit door after he failed to pick a win in two of the clubs first two games despite the huge signings made.

The former champions shared the spoils 1-1 with Berekum Chelsea in their first game at home before surprising 3-0 against city rivals Great Olympics in the Accra derby on Friday.

Although, there have not been in any official release by the club so far, our sources have revealed that Goran has been paid all entitlements he deserves based on the clause in the contract he had with the club and could depart the shores of the country latest by Wednesday.

The 51-year-old has had his contract abrogated by the management of Legon Cities after their shocking 3-0 loss to Great Olympics in the match-week two of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season

“The coach has disappointed everyone at the club deserves the sack,” a source told AshesGyamera.com.

“The assistant coach will take up the mantle on the interim before the club finally name Goran’s replacement. I don’t think the new coach will be a new face or someone who is not known in the league because the club wants to grind results as soon as possible to match the investments made,” the source added.

Legon who will play Medeama in their next game at home have signed former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan, Mathew Cudjoe Anim, Baba Mahama, Raphael Ocloo, Nicholas Gyan and Aduana Stars former midfielder Elvis Opoku before the season began. However, Asamoah Gyan is yet to make his debut for the club since he lacks match fitness.

Jose Mourinho inspires Tottenham to top of Premier League

LONDON, Nov 21 (Reuters) – Tottenham Hotspur moved top of the Premier League after a classic Jose Mourinho inspired performance delivered a 2-0 victory over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Saturday.

Goals in each half from Son Heung-min and substitute Giovani lo Celso, secured the three points and a fourth straight league win for Spurs, who are two points ahead of second-placed Chelsea.Mourinho’s men grabbed the lead in the fifth minute when Son got round the back of City’s defence to latch on to a perfect, lofted pass over the top from Tanguy Ndombele and slip the ball through the legs of the advancing Ederson for the South Korean’s ninth league goal of the season.

Harry Kane had the ball in the net in the 13th minute, slotting home from Son at the end of a sweeping move but the effort was disallowed for offside.City were frustrated when Aymeric Laporte drove home after being set up by Gabriel Jesus but referee Mike Dean, after reviewing the pitch-side monitor, ruled the Brazilian had handled.

The visitors enjoyed the bulk of possession without threatening the goal too often while a well-organised Spurs kept compact and looked to strike on the break. That proved to be a wise tactic when Lo Celso, just 35 seconds after being introduced from the bench, was found by Kane and kept his cool to slip past Ederson, who again had rushed out of his goal.

Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris did well in the final minute to keep out a header from Ruben Dias as City were left to reflect n a result that left them adrift in 10th place, eight points behind Tottenham.

The victory was the first time Mourinho has enjoyed back-to-back wins over his old rival Guardiola.

Eleven Wonders defy Ghana government’s order as supporters are allowed to watch Premier League game in Techiman

The Citizens failed to control their supporters as they thronged into the Ohene Ameyaw Park in their first home game of the season

Techiman Eleven Wonders failed to comply with government’s decision that all Ghana Premier League games should be played behind closed doors during their 2-0 home win over Ebusua Dwarfs on Friday.

The supporters failed to comply to the rules set by government and enforced by Ghana FA due to Coronavirus disease and forced their way inside the facility to watch the game live while others also climbed buildings and structures nearby to catch a glimpse of the game.

Before the start of the season, government issued a statement that only 25 per cent of each match venue will be opened to supporters but that decision was cancelled few days to kick off as a new order came that no supporter will be allowed entry into match centres because COVID-19 cases keep rising.

A goal each half of the game from defender Tettey Nortey and substitute Prince Okraku were enough to win the game for the debutants.

Okraku’s goal means that he is the only player to have scored two goals in two different games this season.

Wonders are now top of the log with four points since they shared spoils 1-1 with Asante Kotoko on opening day.

COCOBOD trial: Witness finally admits his signature after forensic verification

The sixth prosecution witness, in the ongoing trial of former COCOBOD boss and two others, was forced to recoil as he finally admitted that a signature on a questionable contract, he initially denied being his, at least on three occasions, is actually his own signature.

This was after lawyers for the accused threatened to have the signature of the witness, Peter Osei Amoako, examined forensically by the Ghana Police Service.

Mr. Osei Amoako, who is the Director of Finance at the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), first denied his own signature under cross-examination on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.

The witness was shown a contract between COCOBOD and Kumark Ghana Limited for the supply of 200,000 litres of Number 1 Fertilizer in 2017.

Samuel Cudjoe, lead counsel for the former Chief Executive of COCOBOD, Dr. Stephen Opuni, asked Osei Amoako if he witnessed the contract dated 17th May 2017.

“My lord, looking at the contract, I cannot say I witnessed this contract,” he denied.

The witness was then pointed to a signature on the contract and was asked, “Is that your signature?”.

The witness replied in the negative, “No, my lord”, and went further to state “to my knowledge I do not remember” COCOBOD ever purchased the Number 1 Fertilizer under him as the then Acting Director of Finance and now as the substantive Director of Finance.

Still under cross-examination, two days later, on November 19, 2020, the witness, Peter Osei Amoako stood on his ground and discredited the contract document shown to him in court.

Lawyer Samuel Cudjoe at this juncture decided to orally apply for the document to be referred to the police CID “for examination to determine whether the signature [on the document] is that of the witness or is forged”.

Prosecution led by Chief State Attorney, Evelyn Keelson tried to object to the application by the defence counsel raising issues with the document. She had claimed the document was not the same as it was filed in court by the Attorney General’s Department.

The trial judge, Justice Clemence Jackson Honyenuga, a Supreme Court Judge sitting with additional responsibility as a High Court judge had to compare the document of prosecution and that of the defence together with the court’s own.

It was realized that the documents were the same.

The judge then stood down the case for about 10 minutes and later announced to the court that the Chief State Attorney and counsel for Dr. Opuni have consented that the court admits a copy of the document with the court for the witness to be cross-examined on. It was marked as Exhibit 52.

Subsequently, the first question lawyer Samuel Cudjoe asked Osei Amoako was: “Is that your signature on the Exhibit 52?”

The witness was this time forthright, “Yes my lord”.

It was later revealed in court that Exhibit 52 that the witness tried to run away from did not have a critical document required for any credible contract with a supplier so far as COCOBOD is concerned.

The contract COCOBOD entered with Kumark Ghana Limited in 2017 for the supply of Number 1 Fertilizer as documented in court did not have a CRIG certificate that vouches for the efficacy of the product being procured as fit for purpose.

Read excerpts of the cross-examination on Thursday below

Q. Can you have a look at Exhibit 37, is a letter from Cocobod Isn’t it

A. Yes My Lord.

Q. And is in connection with what? give us the details.

A. My Lord, this is a notification of award for the supply of 200,000 of Number 1 Liquid Fertilizer is dated 17th May 2017 and addressed to the Managing Director, Kumark Ghana Ltd.

Q. Can you look at this contract I showed you. Did you say you were not aware of the contract between Cocobod and Kumark for the supply of the 200,000 litres of the supply of number 1 fertilizer which was shown to you at the last adjourned date in which you said it was not your signature?

A. My Lord, I said that the document that was shown to me had some documents attached and there were other documents that were also not attached. So My Lord, on the basis of what I have said, I am unable to confirm that this is the document I witnessed.

Q: Is that your signature on the contract.

A. My Lord, I cannot confirm because the document I am holding does not contain some of the documents I expect to see in this contract.

Q. I am putting it to you that the signature on the contract is your signature.

A: My Lord, on the basis of what I said, I disagree.

Lawyer Cudjoe for the first accused:

“My Lord. I hereby apply orally under your inherent jurisdiction and also to prevent failure of justice that this honourable court would order that the document which the witness has claimed contains a signature which is not his should be referred to the Police CID for forensic examination to determine whether the signature is that of the witness or is forged. My Lord, this is more so when this document a copy of which is on the court docket was given to us by the Attorney Generals Department as part of the discovery process.”

“My Lord, the seriousness of what has happened is that if indeed, as the witness claims his signature is forged or it is not his then we cannot vouch for the other documents which the Prosecution has given to ourselves and your honourable court. If on the other hand it is his signature on the document then the implication as My Lord has rightly stated known.”

Evelyn Keelson for Prosecution:

“My Lord, I oppose to this application. My Lord, my opposition stems from the fact that the application is not relevant. My Lord and also on the fact that the application is founded on a wrong premise. My Lord, the witness has stated that he cannot confirm that the document counsel had given to him is the document he signed because it does not contain some of the documents he expects to see. He has not said a signature had been forged. His problem is the nature of the document counsel is seeking for him to identify.”

“My Lord, on the last adjourned date and even today counsel had indicated that the document is one of the documents we disclosed to him as part of the disclosure. I don’t see the basis of this whole application. They had lose sheets at the end in the last adjourned date.”

CASE STOOD DOWN

CASE RECALLED

BY COURT: By consent of both the learned Chief State Attorney and the learned counsel for the 1st Accused and upon comparison of the court document to the document shown to the witness, the document being the court’s copy is hereby admitted into evidence and marked as Exhibit 52.

Q. Is that your signature on the Exhibit 52

A. Yes My Lord.0

Q. Have a look at this and see whether it is your signature

A. Yes My Lord

Lawyer Cudjoe. My Lord. I want to tender it through him
Prosecution. My Lord, we have no objection.

By court: Document tendered not objected to admitted and marked as Exhibit 53.

Q. Mr Osei-Amoako, in your evidence in chief, you informed this court that the Chief Executive always signs contracts for Cocobod, if he is around and available.

A: Yes My Lord.

Q. But the contracts for fertilizers are prepared by the Procurement Department and vetted by the Legal Department

A. Yes My Lord.

Q . So that have a look at Exhibit 52 which is a contract you also witnessed. I believe Just like Exhibit 53, you would have assumed that the Procurement Unit which prepared the contract and which was vetted by legal would have complied with all the requirements of the contract

A. Yes My Lord.

Q. Do you have a CRIG certificate attached

A. My Lord. I do not have a CRIG certificate attached to this document My Lord, I believe the certificate is available

Q. But definitely your Audit Department together with the user departments namely, CODAPEC and HI-TECH would definitely ensure that at the time of delivery the fertilizers would be fit for use Isn’t it

A. My Lord, the inspection team will make sure the fertilizer has not expired.

Q. Mr. Osei-Amoako, when letters are written for negotiations by Procurement for price quotation, the letters are written in bulk to all companies who are to supply fertilizers. Isn’t it.

A. My Lord, letters for quotations are written to companies whose fertilizers are tested by CRIG for the minimum two-year period to submit quotations.

Q. And when the letters are written the letters request for quotation for a specified quantity isn’t It

A. My Lord, I have to abreast myself first but I believe that is so.

Former CEO of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr Stephen Opuni, businessman Seidu Agongo and Agricult Ghana Company Limited, are facing 27 charges of willfully causing financial loss of ¢217 million to the state, through three separate fertiliser supply contracts between 2014 and 2016.

They have pleaded not guilty to all the charges and are on self-recognition bail of GH¢300,000 each.
