Asante Kotoko 1-1 Bechem United: Okrah’s powerful header denies Kotoko victory as Amidu scores debut goal

The Porcupine Warriors were hoping to recover from the derby draw last weekend but the visitors had other ideas as they continued their recent resurgence

Asante Kotoko shared the spoils 1-1 with Bechem United in matchday seven fixture of Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday in Kumasi.

Prior to the game, Kotoko were hoping to get back on winning ways after the painful stalemate with Nations FC in the Kumasi derby last weekend.

Peter Amidu gave Kotoko the lead by the 10th minute bursting into Bechem’s defence and sent a powerful shot into the top left corner for his debut goal for the club.

Kotoko could have doubled their lead but Kalo Ouatarra’s shot five minutes later was feeble and could not cause trouble to Bechem.

After the break, Augustine Okrah silenced the home fans when he scored a brilliant equaliser after outjumping his marker to head in a tailor-made cross by Emmanuel Avornyo.

Peter Acquah ran through Bechem United midfield on the 79th minute and set up by Dese Mukwala but the striker failed to hit the back of the net before Acquah also missed another glorious opportunity.

Okrah nearly made Kotoko pay for their missed chances by the 83rd minute after scoring another goal but it was chalked off as offside.

Cephas Mantey nearly won the day for Bechem after climbing off the substitute bench for Okrah but his wonderful header deep in additional time was saved by Danlad Ibrahim.

Kotoko are now winless in their last two outings, picking two points from six, while Bechem have garnered four points in the process to continue their fine form.

Nations FC 2-2 Kotoko: Diarra’s late penalty saves newcomers from derby defeat

The Kumasi derby ended in an intriguing stalemate as three late goals were scored coupled with over ten minutes of temporal hold up due to fans violence

Nations FC shared the spoils 2-2 with Asante Kotoko in the Kumasi derby at the Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese on Sunday.

Before the game, Nations were yet to taste defeat at home since making their way into the top-flight while Kotoko were chasing their second away win after pipping Accra Lions a fortnight ago.

Peter Acquah Amidu combined with Richmond Lamptey to set up Sherrif Mohammed by the fifth minute but the latter saw his shot going narrowly wide.

A minute later, Nations FC came close to poking their noses in front but Victor’s effort was blocked by Nanabeyin Amoah.

After the break, Henry Ansu headed into his own net from a Nations FC corner kick by the 47th minute to set home fans at the stadium into wild jubilations.

Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum brought on Steven Dese Mukwala and Kyei Dwamena for Mfegue and Ntim respectively.

Mukwala pulled parity by the 86th minute after Kalo Ouatarra’s double strikes were blocked before Dwamena added another goal two minutes later.

Nations FC were handed a penalty late in additional time and that generated a heated argument among the Kotoko players and away fans leading to almost ten minutes of temporary hold up.

Amidu Diarra stepped up and sent goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim the wrong way to notch in the equaliser.

The stalemate means that Nations FC have picked five points from three home games and are yet to taste defeat at home.

Highlights: United States 4-0 Ghana: Black Stars humiliated in America as Chris Hughton loses two games in a row

The Black Stars were thrashed in another abysmal performance as Chris Hughton once again failed to show his tactical leadership

Ghana were hammered in a 4-0 defeat against United States of America in an international friendly at the Geodis Park in Tynnessie on Wednesday morning.

The Black Stars had some changes in their setup as goalkeeper Manag Nurudeen replaced Lawrence Ati-Zigi while Jerome Opoku was handed his debut for Ghana and Jordan Ayew also started this time after being left on the bench against Mexico last week.

A Nicholas Opoku’s mistake led to the opener as Reyna opened the scoring capitalised on a failed clearance to shot United States in front on the tenth minute.

The hosts added another goal from the spot through former Chelsea star Christian Pulisic nine minutes later.

Kudus Mohammed tried to reduce the deficit with an ambitious shot on target but his effort was blocked. Few minutes later, United States made it 3-0 through Florin Balogun on 22nd minute after another shambolic defending by Ghana.

Things moved from bad to worse after another poor defending from Nicholas Opoku led to an indirect freekick to United States. Reyna stepped up and perfectly slotted the resulting kick beyond the reach of goalkeeper Manaf and all the defenders stuck in the post.

After the break, Ghana made several changes with Partey, Gideon Mensah and Kudus all going off for the likes of Elisha Owusu, Salis and Nuamah coming in but they could so little to salvage the situation.

The defeat means that Chris Hughton’s side has lost two games on the bounce after a 2-0 defeat to Mexico last week and conceded six goals without scoring any.

The Black Stars suffered a defeat for the first time under Chris Hughton as they fell to Mexico in an international friendly far away in United States

Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat in the hands of Mexico in an international friendly at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte United States of America on Sunday morning.

The Black Stars were missing the services of captain Andre Ayew, Tariq Lamptey a couple of players due to personal reasons and injuries but had Thomas Teye Partey, Kudus Mohammed and Jordan Ayew in the squad.

Two second half goals from Hirving Lozano and Uriel Antuna were enough to hand Mexico a well deserving victory over the Black Stars as Chris Hughton finally suffered his first defeat after taking over from Otto Addo.

However, a major concern after the game was goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi who many Ghanaians believe his performance was below standard and should improve.

Many football lovers and pundits have reiterated that the goals Ati-Zigi conceded and how he set up his defence in the game against Mexico were questionable.

Ghana FA security attacks journalist Adamu in USA as Black Stars suffer defeat to Mexico

The former pundit was attacked by one of the security personnel deployed to guide the Black Stars

Former Asempa FM panelist and Ghana Premier League statistician, Seidu Adamu, was verbally and physically assaulted at the Black Stars hotel few hours to kick off in the friendly against Mexico in Charlotte, United States of America, AshesGyamera.com can confirm.

According to eyewitnesses report, Seidu arrived at the team’s hotel to welcome fellow journalists who travelled from Ghana to cover the game and initially exchanged pleasantries with Ghana FA president Kurt Okraku as well as other Executive Council members and General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo.

However, things turned from good to bad and later worse when one gentleman, who is allegedly part of the Black Stars security, warned Seidu to leave the premises as he had been labelled as ‘persona non grata’. He further insisted that Seidu has been monitored constantly criticising the current Football administration especially Kurt Okraku and also support opposition leader George Afriyie.

The gentleman, known as Aziz, pounced on Seidu, strangled him in an attempt to choke him to death in the presence of Ghana FA director of communications Henry Asante Twum until people intervened to separate them.

After the unfortunate incident, a helpless Seidu sensing danger called the police to file a report and make an arrest. However, some top officials at the scene convinced him to drop the charges and settle the issue in a Ghanaian manner as Aziz was made to apologize for the fear and panic as well as emotional and mental damage caused.

“It happened in a flash and I couldn’t believe my eyes,” an eyewitness told AshesGyamera.

“I cannot imagine things like this still exists in this modern age. When Seidu Adamu came to the hotel, we were all happy to see him because he has been away for some time. I don’t know what the security was told to launch such an attack.

“In fact, every well meaning person would be extremely worried because what happened to Seidu can happen to any journalist if care is not taken.

“The fact that the gentleman could muster courage to attack a journalist unprovoked means someone might have given him that order to do it. He is currently complaining of pains around his neck and back” the eyewitness added.

Two second half goals from Hirving Lozano and Uriel Antuna were enough to hand Mexico a well deserving victory over the Black Stars as Chris Hughton finally suffered his first defeat after taking over from Otto Addo.

Although, United States is seen as one of the safest places to practice journalism, compared to Ghana, recent surveys seem to point to the fact that journalists are somehow suppressed and not allowed to freely practice their profession.

The survey of 11,889 U.S. journalists, conducted Feb. 16-March 17, 2022 by Pew Research Center, identified several specific areas of concern for journalists, including the future of press freedom, widespread misinformation, political polarization and the impact of social media.

More than half of journalists surveyed (57%) say they are “extremely” or “very” concerned about the prospect of press restrictions being imposed in the United States.

At the same time, four-in-ten journalists say that news organizations are generally doing a bad job managing or correcting misinformation and that makes their job and safety come under threat.

Ghana will face United States in another friendly game on Wednesday.
