Video: Watch Black Stars final training ahead of of Comoros clash; Andre Ayew to play?

The Black Stars will face Comoros in an all-important fixture as the winner would go top of Group I

Ghana will play Comoros in the second game of Group I of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday.

The Black Stars after the narrow victory over Madagascar in Kumasi last week, would be hoping to make amends and impress Ghanaians with good and impressive football.

A late goal deep in additional time from Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams was all that the Black Stars needed to secure a win.

However, with Comoros also winning on opening day away over Chad, the hosts will now hope to make it two wins in two games and leapfrog Mali to the top of the table.

Mali surprisingly shared the spoils 1-1 at home against Central African Republic while Madagascar recovered from the defeat against Ghana to brush aside Chad 3-0.

With pressure mounting on Ghana coach Chris Hughton, he is expected to ring changes in the squad that defeated Madagascar.

Midfielder Majeed Ashimeru is expected to start ahead of Abdul Salis Samed while captain Andre Ayew will likely come on to help with his experience in the second half.

Breaking News: Ghana FA ban Bofoakwa Tano from Sunyani Coronation Park

The Returnees will have to honour their subsequent home games on neutral grounds until further notice after their supporters’ troubles against Nsoatreman

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association has ordered a temporary ban on Bofoakwa Tano FC from using the Sunyani Coronation Park as its home venue with immediate effect.

This decision has become necessary due to the unfortunate incidents that occurred after the Match day 11  match between Bofoakwa Tano FC and Nsoatreman FC played on November 19, 2023.

The decision is in accordance with the GFA Premier League Regulations  Article 14(2) which states inter alia “the GFA may order the closure of any league centre where the safety of clubs, Match Officials or Spectators cannot be guaranteed.”’

The Competitions Department is therefore advised to determine the venue for the Club’s subsequent home matches in accordance with Article 14(3) Premier League Regulations.

This order is however without prejudice to the determination of the case pending before the Disciplinary Committee who have been charged to hear the case in accordance with the relevant Regulations.

The GFA notes the unacceptable conduct of the supporters of the home team, Bofoakwa Tano FC and condemns same, without any reservations, the violations of the provisions of the GFA the Safety and Security Regulations and the Premier League Regulations which took place at the match.

The GFA Prosecutors have been tasked to study all the video evidence and the match reports and prefer appropriate Charges immediately and for the Disciplinary Committee to sit on this matter expeditiously.

The GFA demands that Bofoakwa Tano FC shall immediately assist the Regional Police to cause the arrest of the persons involved in this attack on the away team, and the holding of the match officials hostage, without fail, in accordance with the promise given by the clubs to the Inspector General of Police in our engagement with the leadership of the Ghana Police Service.

The Association has instructed the Competitions Department to fix the venues for the upcoming home matches of Bofoakwa Tano FC, until the case is determined, with due regards to the distance to be travelled by the away teams (note that matches can be fixed at the home of the away team, if required).

That all clubs are to take note and comply strictly with the Safety & Security Regulations and the GFA Disciplinary Code.

The GFA wishes to sound a strong note of caution to all members (especially all clubs) that the slightest harassment or attack on Players, Team Officials, Match Officials (Referees, Match Commissioners, GFA Cameramen & Women, Venue Media Officers, the sports media) shall be dealt with severely and swiftly

The former Black Stars assistant coach was rushed to the hospital in Sunyani after he was physically brutalised by Bofoakwa Tano supporters

Nsoatreman FC head coach Maxwell Konadu nearly lost his life after fans of Bofoakwa Tano charged on him and mercilessly beat him at the Coronation Park in Sunyani on Sunday.

The first-ever Bono derby between Bofoakwa and Nsoatreman ended in a goalless with the officials and away fans complaining about poor officiating.

That allegedly did not go down well with fans of Bofoakwa who also decided to make their displeasure known leading to a chaotic scene.

Konadu was mobbed by a section of Bofoakwa fans on the field after the game and that resulted into him being rushed to the regional hospital following the intervention of the police.

The Nsoatreman coach is reported to have uttered some words after the game, including calling the home fans ‘villagers’, which did not go down well with Bofoakwa Tano supporters and led to the assault.

Highlights: Kotoko 1-0 Medeama: Sheriff Mohammed’s controversial goal from saves Prosper Ogum from further pressure

The Porcupine Warriors finally recorded their first victory in the league after failing in their previous four attempts

Asante Kotoko defeated Medeama 1-0 in matchday eleven of Ghana Premier League 1-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.

A Sheriff Mohammed’s second half goal from the spot meant that Kotoko have finally ended their four-game run without a win and moved out of the relegation zone.

After an end to end action in the first half, where both sides failed to hit the back of the net, Kotoko returned from recess rejuvenated.

Cameroon forward Mfegue was pulled down in Medeama box and although the visitors argued that there was little or minimal contact, Kotoko were awarded a penalty.

Sherrif stepped up and sent goalkeeper Felix Kyei to the wrong direction to open the scoring. However, Medeama staged another protest as they believed Sheriff touched the ball twice with both feet before it entered the net.

Amid their argument, the referee was adamant and awarded the goal.

Video: Nick Ball beats Ghana’s Isaac Dogboe to secure final eliminator

The Ghanaian could not stand the might of Nick Ball who punched his way into title contention with his most significant win to date on Saturday

The unbeaten featherweight outhustled former WBO junior featherweight titlist Isaac Dogboe to claim a twelve-round, unanimous decision victory. Judges Mark Lyson (119-108), Kevin Parker (118-109) and Kieran McCann (116-111) all ruled for Ball in their TNT Sports/ESPN+ televised WBC featherweight title eliminator Saturday evening at AO Arena in Manchester, England.

Ball took the fight directly to Dogboe and forced an aggressive pace early on the night. Dogboe maintained a tight guard and patience in lieu of getting caught up in an in-ring shootout with his younger, unbeaten foe.

The all-action approach had its drawbacks for Ball. The first moment came late in round two. Dogboe was outboxed for much of the frame before he connected with a counter left hook. Ball was briefly stunned but remained upright through the bell—as well as in between rounds, as he chose to stand in his corner in lieu of sitting on his stool.

Ball avoided a knockdown call late in round three. Dogboe turned his shoulder towards the onrushing Brit and attempted a left hook that landed on Ball’s shoulder. An ensuing exchange saw both fighters miss and Ball fall to the canvas, which referee Victor Loughlin correctly ruled a slip.

Dogboe was not afforded the same courtesy on the other side of the bell to begin round four. Ball connected with a left hook, though a follow-up forearm shove forced Dogboe’s fall. Loughlin immediately issued a count without ordering Ball to a neutral corner, as Dogboe immediately protested the knockdown call.

Ball worked behind his jab in round five. He later caught Dogboe with a left hook on the inside behind a right hand that was blocked.

Dogboe momentarily lost his balance from a right hand early in round six. He quickly recovered and tightened up his high guard. Ball adjusted and landed to the body. Dogboe slipped a right hand and came back with a brief flurry upstairs.

Ball rode out an early surge from Dogboe, who looked to land upstairs early in round seven. It didn’t quite take, as Ball significantly outworked the aged titleholder for much of the round. A brief defensive lapse saw Ball catch a right hand late after missing wildly with a left hook along the ropes.

Dogboe was urged by his corner after the end of the eighth round to offer more movement but to bite down and respond on the moments Ball rushed his way inside. The latter part came into play when Dogboe landed a counter left hook which caused Ball’s knees to buckle late in the ninth. It came as Bell otherwise enjoyed a dominant round but once again showed holes in his still developing game.

Ball was warned for holding and throwing Dogboe in the tenth. The sequence occurred shortly after Dogboe landed a counter right hand over the top inside the final minute. Ball—who fought through a bloody nose—enjoyed a solid round to that point but briefly lost his head for which he was admonished by Loughlin.

Round eleven was all one-way traffic. Ball threw punches from all angles and split the high and tight guard of Dogboe, who walked forward but did not have it in him to let his hands go. An attempted ten-second drill by Dogboe was anticipated by Ball, who say back against the ropes and picked off the incoming.

Dogboe desperately needed a knockout in the twelfth and final round. The willingness was there as he targeted the body. Ball quickly adjusted and fired off a series of straight shots upstairs. Dogboe landed a right uppercut midway through the round but it was countered by a series of power shots. Dogboe later landed a right hand and a left hook to the body but it wasn’t enough to avoid the scorecards or his second straight defeat.

The outcome saw Dogboe fall to 24-4 (15KOs). He dropped a competitive but clear decision to Robeisy Ramirez in their WBO featherweight title fight on April 1 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which snapped a four-fight win streak following back-to-back defeats to Emanuel Navarrete.

Despite now sitting as the mandatory challenger, Ball ( will likely have to wait deep into 2024 for an actual title shot.

Mexico’s Rey Vargas (36-1, 22KOs) holds the full WBC featherweight title, while Texas’ Brandon Figueroa (24-1-1, 18KOs) holds the interim version. Their bout was once poised to land on the David Benavidez-Demetrius Andrade undercard, then rumored for a December 9 Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) show that was since removed from the schedule. It remains among a deep roster of PBC fights awaiting a home once Showtime closes up shop at the end of the year.

Nevertheless, Ball is in a good position in the year ahead. A quality win over a veteran contender and former titlist like Dogboe came in a much-needed step up in competition, which will leave him better prepared for the next level.
