0

The young teacher who has been advocating for the welfare of his colleague teachers and pupils has been shown the exit few days to Christmas

Energetic teacher and social media activist Michael Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Teacher Kwadwo has confirmed that he has been sacked by Ghana Education Service just a day after guiding his pupils to write the National Assessment Examination.

The former Akrokerri College of Education student, who doubles as a comedian and appears on UTV’s United Showbiz every Saturday, has taken upon himself to speak about against ill treatments teachers across the country go through while executing their works.

Although, he has been applauded by a lot of teachers who believe he is fighting a good course, his recent episodes of unveiling what he terms as the rot in Ghana Education Service, have irked his employers.

As a result, his contract has been terminated with the immediate effect and has been directed to handover every material or property of Ghana Education Service in his possession.

“Okay, so for some “PROFESSIONAL” reasons, I can’t post the content of the letter here but all that is in the letter is that my District Education Office through Ghana Education Service says they have sacked me,” Teacher Kwadwo posted on Facebook.

“Their reasons are very funny. This is going to be the first ever TEACHER vs GES fight in the history of Ghana Education. Y’all relax because it will be all over the news soon and y’all will know the head and tail of it.
Ɛbɛyɛ butubutu,” he added.

According to Teacher Kwadwo, the top hierarchy of Ghana Education Service had been waiting for a better timing to sack him from the profession since the letter which confirmed his sacking was dated in October – three months ago.

“The SACKING letter that was given to me yesterday is dated “27th october 2021”. Abeg what was yesterday’s date?

“Meaning they have typed the letter looooong time and was looking for an opportunity but since they don’t get it,they have given it to me like that.
Wɔn atetɛ me akyɛ,” he concluded.

Teacher Kwadwo is well known for providing school uniforms and other learning materials to his pupils and several schools. He recently renovated Akrofrom D/A Primary School through the help of some well-meaning Ghanaians after a video he posted on social media.

‘Ghana government should lift the ban on school sports,’ says World Athletics president Coe

The president of World Athletics, Lord Sebastian Coe has advised Ghana Government to ensure the restart of school sports in the country in order to help nurture talents in the coming years.

In an interview with selected Journalists from Africa, Sebastian Coe responsed to a question by Ghanaian Fentuo Tahiru that re-starting school sports is not only going to benefit athletics, but is crucial for the overall wellbeing of the school children.

“While we will not challenge governments or local health authorities on how they think it is best to contain the virus, I would say that when it comes to childhood physical activity, that is an important part of their social skills and mental wellbeing,” he said.

“So where possible, I would always encourage governments, within the realms of safety, to do everything they possibly can to make sure that young people have a physical outlet; because that will help them with their studies, their self esteem as well as their mental health.

“I would encourage the [Ghana] government to do as much as the possibly can, safely, to maintain school sports activity and the opportunity for young people to find outdoor space to exercise,” he concluded.

Students who completed Senior High School in 2020 and those who were enrolled since 2020 were unable to exhibit their God-giving talents.

‘I deserve better’ – David Abagna fed up with being underrated by journalists & coaches

The midfielder lived up to the expectations last weekend as he netted the equaliser against Asante Kotoko and he has called on journalists and coaches to start rating him higher

Real Tamale United captain David Abagna Sangna says he is “fed up” with how journalists and national team coaches have treated him over the years, insisting he “deserves better” for his performances.

The midfielder has been one of the most exciting talents this season in Ghana Premier League after joining RTU from Ashanti Gold. He scored a late equaliser for RTU against Asante Kotoko last weekend and his goal silenced the vociferous home supporters at Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

However, Abagna feels he does not receive the needed recognition amid his consistent performances and has always been overlooked by coaches during call ups to the national team.

“I think that, may be I don’t have influential friends in the media space, that’s why I don’t get a lot said about me but I think I deserve more. My statistics from WA All Stars (Legon Cities) to Ashanti Gold and now at RTU are there for all to see,” Abagna told Angel FM Accra.

“When I was at AshGold, I had better statistics but when the local Black Stars was announced, Yaw Annorl was the one invited.

“Even Yaw and my own teammates were surprised with the decision. I’ve scored double figures in all the full seasons I had as a midfielder,” he added.

Abagna has scored seven goals and provided one assist after eight league games this season for RTU.

Ahead of the announcement of Ghana’s provisional squad for 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, a lot of Ghanaians have argued that his fine performance should not go unnoticed.

However, reports in the local media have suggested that Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has selected only four players from the league as part of his provisional squad and Abagna was not an option.

Asante Kotoko captain Abdul Ganiu Ismail made the squad after Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu turned down the opportunity to represent Ghana.

Other local players reportedly named in Ghana’s squad include Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Richard Attah and Dreams FC duo of Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Philimon Baffour.

According to Ghana FA, the Black Stars who have been paired with Morocco, Gabon and Comoros in Group C at the Afcon, will open camp in Doha, Qatar on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 ahead of the tournament holding in Cameroon.

US panel recommends J&J vaccines must be sidelined after clot deaths

A panel involving health experts have admonished that the J&J vaccines must not be used on United States citizens following several deaths recently

A panel of US experts has voted unanimously to recommend the Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines over Johnson & Johnson’s, which has been linked to deadly side effects.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a total of 57 J&J patients have developed a rare blood clot disorder.

Nine people are known so far to have died: seven women and two men.

A total of 16 million US residents have received the single-dose J&J vaccine.

On Thursday, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended that the J&J vaccine be reserved for cases where patients are unable or unwilling to receive the more widely available Pfizer and Moderna jabs.

The CDC must still decide whether to accept the panel’s recommendation.

The blood-clotting side effect remains rare, with federal health officials estimating that it has been reported at a rate of 3.8 per million doses given.

Data of people who have died

Of the 57 confirmed cases, 36 were admitted to intensive care units. The dead ranged in ages from 28 to 62, with obesity the primary underlying medical condition.

All the cases so far have taken place within a month of the jab, the vast majority after nine days.

“I don’t feel comfortable… not having the ACIP make a clear statement that reflects the recognition that we have of the concerns about these rare but oftentimes fatal side effects,” ACIP member Dr Beth Bell said on Thursday.

A number of panellists warned against removing J&J as an option entirely, particularly at a time when US public health officials are trying to vaccinate the country’s remaining unvaccinated residents.

“It’s really important, though, that we not completely eliminate this vaccine,” said Dr Jason Goldman, an assistant professor of clinical biomedical science at Florida Atlantic University.

The use of the J&J vaccine was temporarily halted in April due to concerns over blood clots.

The CDC has noted that the use of the vaccine prevented thousands of Covid-19-related hospitalisations, compared to a relatively small number of people who experienced the side effects.

The latest CDC statistics show that over 76% of US residents above the age of five have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccines.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II gives strong warning to Kurt Okraku and Ghana FA on bad officiating

The paramount chief of the Asante kingdom has warned the leadership of the country’s football governing body to improve on officiating in league games

Asante Kingdom’s paramount chief, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has warned Ghana Football Association top hierarchy to help the standard of officiating in Ghana Premier League before things get out of hands.

The FA president Kurt Okraku and some members of the association’s executive council paid a courtesy call on Otumfuo at his Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Wednesday.

There have been concerns raised about officiating especially from Asante Kotoko fans following their side’s painful defeat against city rivals King Faisal in the Kumasi derby.

“If you don’t make sure to protect the game from bad officiating, it will spoil the game,” Otumfuo warned the FA top hierarchy present at Manhyia.

“We also have to be trustful because if we don’t get a worthy winner for our league, they will easily fall off when it matters most [in Caf inter-club competitions].

“Thus, it is because the rules work perfectly at this highest level. The referees should be firm in their calls if it’s a penalty, they should take it and should hesitate to do same when it’s offside,” he added.

Ahead of the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations holding in Cameroon, only one Ghanaian referee (Daniel Laryea) was selected among 64 others referees to officiate the games.

“There’s no deficiency in Kotoko’s defence,” Ogum insists as he heaps praise on Maxwell Agyemang

The Porcupine Warriors boss has rejected suggestions that his side’s defence has been leaking recently in the Premier League

Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Ogum Narteh has insisted his defence are doing well in Ghana Premier League despite their recent poor performance.

Kotoko have failed to win any of their last three games and conceded five goals in the process which has raised concerns from the club’s supporters and pundits.

However, Ogum believes the problem isn’t about the defence but the strikers who has been poor upfront.

“Not so [there’s no deficiency in the team]. Andrew Appau isn’t well that is why he didn’t play part of the game,” Ogum said, as quoted by AshesGyamera.com.

“It is not because of non performance. He is injured that is why Maxwell Agyemang played against RTU. I think Maxwell Agyemang was able to justify his inclusion and was able to justify why I put him there.

“He played well, marked the opponents very well and was very confident on the ball. I think he did well so defensively, I think he didn’t lack anything,” he added.

Ogum further insisted that he was not disappointed with the stalemate against RTU.

“I’m not disappointed with the draw against RTU in the sense that we played well and created a lot of chances which we could have scored but we couldn’t take our chances,” Ogum said after the game.

“In terms of performance, I think we are playing well. if it is about the results then fine. However, I still believe that we are creating a lot of chances just that we are not taking them.

” I believe we should be winning all our last three games if we had taken out chances because we played well,” he added.

Kotoko, who are currently sitting third on the log with 14 points, will head to Accra this weekend to face Legon Cities in a must win game.

Afcon 2021: ‘Ghana will not qualify from their group unless they offer a sacrifice,’ – Prophet Ogya Nyame

The founder and leader of Shinning Grace Chapel, Prophet Ogya Nyame, also known as Angel of Azuka, has insisted that Ghana will not go past the group stage of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations holding in Cameroon next month.

According to the Kumasi-based man of God, the Black Stars will struggle to impress and will be eliminated from the competition after three games unless the leadership seek spiritual guidance before the tournament starts.

Ghana, who are yet to lift a major trophy since 1982, have been paired with Morocco, Comoros and Gabon in Group C will open their account on January 10.

“In this upcoming AFCON, Black Stars need a serious spiritual direction from a powerful man of God and the direction will require a huge cow to reverse the bad luck,” he said during a church service in Kumasi.
