JUST IN: Ghana Premier League referee Osei caught having betting slips on his mobile phone

The knight of cups whistle is reportedly found having betting slips on his phone prior to Premier League games

Ghana Premier League referee Isaac Osei has been caught having betting slips on his mobile phone by the Integrity officials of Ghana FA, according to a report filed by Kessben FM.

Following the rampant increase of match fixing allegations, Ghana FA has strengthened their security measures to reduce or possibly eradicate the canker.

As a result, an Integrity Officer was appointed three year ago and he has also set up a team to help him in his works. The team has been seen at various league centers undergoing investigations and one of their methods include the scrutinization of mobile phones of referees and selected players from the two clubs involved in a a game.

The team was seen at Sogakope a fortnight ago when Asante Kotoko visited WAFA in Sogakope as well as Great Olympics’ 2-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea at the Accra Sports Stadium last week.

According to Kessben Sports, referee Isaac Osei has been caught allegedly having slips indicating bets staked on football matches prior to a Ghana Premier League game.

Upon further interrogations, Osei is reported to have revealed that he is not the only Ghanaian referee who is involved in football betting and further added that even Ghanaian football administrators are also part.

It will be recalled that referee Osei was suspended for the rest of the season three weeks ago after he was found guilty of failing to award Legon Cities an obvious penalty against Berekum Chelsea.

“The GFA Match Review Panel has been suspended Referee Isaac Osei for erring in the decision not to award a penalty in favour of Legon Cities FC in their Ghana Premier League Matchweek 24 Berekum Chelsea FC,” a GFA statement read.

Below are decision announced by the Match review panel:

BEREKUM CHELSEA VS. LEGON CITIES (MATCH DAY 24)

SUMMARY OF COMPLAINT

In the 37th minute of play, the Referee awarded a penalty to Berekum Chelsea and an alleged foul by Legon Cities player number 5 on Berekum Chelsea player number 53.

The Referee denied Legon Cities a penalty for a foul committed by Berekum Chelsea’s goalkeeper in the 42nd minute.

The goalkeeper was seen dragging the Legon Cities player down by grabbing him with both hands around the neck.

OBSERVATIONS, FINDINGS AND GROUNDS OF THE DECISION

In the 37th minute of the match, a defender of Legon Cities fouled an attacker of Berekum Chelsea. The referee awarded a penalty to Berekum Chelsea.

Per the video watched the angle of foul was not clear. For the benefit of doubt the referee was in a better position to have seen the foul.

In the 42nd minute incident, the goalkeeper of Berekum Chelsea was clearly seen pulling down Legon Cities player number 21 in the penalty area. This was a clear incident of foul which the referee ignored. Thus, an obvious penalty was ignored.

The referee was invited to explain his decisions. He explained why he gave the first penalty but was quick to accept that he erred completely for not awarding penalty to Legon Cities in the second incident.

Referee Isaac Osei’s decision changed the outcome of the match. He is therefore suspended for the rest of the season. This includes all matches organized by GFA.

During the sitting of the Match Review Panel, we called for the match between Samartex FC and Ebusua Dwarfs which was played during match day (19) nineteen.

In the later stages of the game, a penalty was awarded to Samartex FC per the video watched, the defender of Dwarfs in attempt to play the ball stepped on the ball and the attacker kicked it. The attacker deliberately went down without any contact from the defender and the referee picked a penalty. The Panel saw this penalty as wrongfully awarded.

Referees response
After the video was sent to him, he kept on defending that the defender of Dwarfs kicked the leg of the attacker of Samartex FC which the video did not support or showed.

The referee, Felix Agbozo erred in awarding the penalty. He is therefore suspended for the rest of the season. This includes all matches organized by GFA.

“Bechem United will not lose second position,” Kassim Mingle gives up the chase on Kotoko

The Hunters boss believes they will still finish in second position despite their recent poor run of results

Bechem United coach Kassim Mingle has insisted they will not lose their second position after going nine points behind Asante Kotoko in the race for the Premier League title.

The Hunters have consistently failed to capitalize on Kotoko’s inability to win games consistently.

With six games remaining, Bechem will play three games at home and three away from home.

“We will consolidate our position. Nobody can move us from the second position,” Mingle said after the 1-1 draw with Hearts of Oak on Saturday.

“It was very competitive game. My players did not play the way we’ve been playing always so I’m disappointed in their play today. They were not putting our passes together and the way we attack the 18 in our finish, my players were not doing that and I don’t know why,” coach Mingle said after the game.

“My goalkeeper did very well by preventing them from getting another goal. When you miss some of your key players, definitely those coming in will not play like those who have been. It will take time before they gel into the team so normally that’s how it happens.”

Bechem United will travel up North to play Real Tamale United at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

They will later face Aduana Stars in the semifinals of the FA Cup at the Golden City Park in Berekum on Sunday.

After scoring the first goal through a stunner, Etouga had the opportunity to double Kotoko’s lead by the 68th minute when his countryman Georges Mfegue Rodrigues was brought down in Aduana Stars’ box. However, his last ditch effort was saved by goalkeeper Joseph Addo.

Kotoko had another opportunity to extend their lead as Stephen Amankona was also felled in the box by one of Aduana’s defenders. Etouga stepped up to effect the kick and his effort was denied by the goalpost.

Bright Agyei left it late to snatch the equaliser for Aduana on the stroke of full time when he met a Emmanuel Gyamfi’s cross.

“You still have my support, Franck Mbella. Keep the fire burning 🔥. Much love,” Ogum posted on his official Twitter page on Monday morning.

Next week, Kotoko will travel to Obuasi to face Ashanti Gold in the Ashanti derby at the Len Clay Sports Stadium.

Clinton Duodo wasn’t at Black Satellites level – Karim Zito explains why he was dropped

The Black Satellites head coach has shed light on why he opted to drop the Bechem United winger ahead of the 2021 WAFU Zone B games

Ghana U-20 coach Abdul Karim Zito has insisted that he was right to drop Bechem United youngster Clinton Duodo and Legon Cities star Osman Amadu from the final squad ahead of the WAFU B Cup of Nations ongoing in Niger.

Duodo after his drop featured for Bechem in their 1-1 stalemate with Hearts of Oak. His overall performance was impressive and that has led to questions being asked on why he couldn’t make Ghana’s final squad.

“Your team’s performance will bring you to the national team and when you come to the national team, I don’t use your team’s performance to judge you or to select but rather I use what you show to me at national camp to select you,” Zito said after Ghana’s 2-0 defeat to Nigeria on opening day at the GSK Stadium on Sunday evening thanks to goals from Ibrahim Muhammad and Ahmed Abdullai.

“When they came, I was even wondering, what is wrong with Clinton. For Amadu, of late he doesn’t play. I played him in the knockout, we beat them, he did not play, all time Amadu is on the bench and in all the friendly games we played they did not perform, so why should I bring them?

“They can talk but your performance outside with your club will bring you to the national team but you have to perform with me before I select you. They didn’t perform [at the Black Satellites level] well and that is why I dropped them”
