Asante Kotoko fail to sign Maxwell Baakoh for Caf Confederation Cup

The Porcupine Warriors were on the verge of completing a deal for the highly-rated youngster but negotiations fell through on the eleventh hour

Asante Kotoko could not conclude a deal with Karela United FC midfielder Maxwell Baakoh despite the player and his counsel arriving at the club’s secretariat on Tuesday, AshesGyamera.com can confirm.

The winger initially agreed a two-year deal with the FA Cup champions but disagreement on salary as well as transfer prevented the deal to be officially concluded.

With Kotoko preparing for the Caf Confederation Cup next month, coach C.K Akonnor is in the market to beef up his squad after already signing Guinean international Naby Keita in a three-year deal this week.

According to reports in the local media, Elmina Sharks forward Felix Addo could be signed by Kotoko as well as former Wafa Academy captain Martin Antwi.

Already, Kwame Conte Bonsu and former midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei is having a trial with the club.

Kwesi Nyantakyi finished; Fifa bans former GFA president for LIFE

Former Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi has been handed a lifetime ban by the world football’s governing body Fifa on Tuesday.

The 49-year-old, who recently celebrated his birthday, was the centre of attention in an undercover investigate work by Ghanaian journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger PI Crew in June.

The former Fifa Council member was caught on tape accepting a huge sum of dollars as gift which goes against the association’s code of ethics. He also unscrupulously registered a company called NAMAX as an agency, which would have siphoned about 25 per cent of a sponsorship money meant for Ghana Premier League clubs.

“The adjudicatory chamber of the Independent Ethics Committee has banned Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi, former president of the Ghana Football Association for life from all football-related activities,” a statement from Fifa read.

“The adjudicatory chamber found Mr. Nyantakyi guilty of having violated art. 19 (Conflict of interest), art 21 (Bribery and corruption), and art 22 (Commission) of Fifa code of Ethics. As a consequence, Mr. Nyantakyi is banned for life from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or other) at both national and international level. Additionally, a fine of CHF 500,000 has been imposed on Mr. Nyantakyi.

“The decision was notified to Mr. Nyantakyi today, and the ban comes into force immediately,” the statement added.

Nyantakyi rose to fame in 2005 after becoming the acting Ghana FA president following the resignation of Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe. He was in his third term of office and reports suggested he was planning to contest for another term.

Love turns sour; Asamoah Gyan falls on DNA to check his children’s REAL father

Ghanaian footballer and captain of the Ghana Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan has allegedly filed for divorce from his wife, Gifty Gyan, at the Divorce and Matrimonial Division of the High Court, Accra.

The footballer has also denied fathering their three children and is demanding a DNA test to be carried out on all three to ascertain if he is the father of the children.

GhanaWeb.com is reliably informed that Gyan and his wife Gifty have not seen eye to eye in the last few months, but the desire of the Black Stars captain to officially terminate the five-year marriage is a clear indication that their differences have now become irreconcilable.

The news outlet is also reliably informed that the footballer, who filed for divorce in August this year is currently making preparation to marry an Accra-based business woman, once his marriage to Gifty is annulled by the court.

Although Gyan has had a ‘scandal-laden’ career, he has successfully shielded his wife and three children from the public eye and media scrutiny.

Details of why Asamoah Gyan’s marriage to Gifty has hit the rocks are unknown but sources close to the estranged wife say Gyan grew cold towards Gifty after another woman came into his life.

The said woman was in June this year mistaken for Asamoah Gyan’s wife at the grand opening of his new sports bar located in Osu, Accra.

Interestingly, the same lady was mentioned as Asamoah Gyan’s wife when Emmanuel ‘Game Boy’ Tagoe fought his last bout in defense of his IBO World title this month.

She was also spotted in town with the footballer when he came to Ghana recently for his summer vacation.

Normalisation Committee begins process to audit accounts & sponsorship contracts of Ghana FA

The interim body set up by Fifa to lead processes of restoring football in the country has began with auditing the previous administration’s accounts and sponsorships

Ghana football’s Normalisation Committee chairman Dr. Kofi Amoah has revealed that all the sponsorship contracts signed by the immediate past Ghana FA are under investigations.

In a Press briefing held in Accra, on Wednesday, the committee’s chief rejected suggestions that they have been very slow in their dealings since assuming office.

“We are really working since coming into office. The Ghana FA’s accounts needed to be audited and we’re currently doing that to help our course,” Dr. Amoah told the Media.

“External auditors have been brought on board and they are in the process of auditing the accounts to know the state of things.

“The GFA also has sponsorship contracts with several companies and we are in the process of reviewing them in order to take decisions,” he added.

Some of the contracts expected to be scrutinized include Zylofon Cash’s sponsorship for the Ghana Premier League as well as UniBank, Guinness Ghana, Goldfields Ghana and GNPC sponsorships that were offered to the Black Stars.

The Normalisation Committee’s mandate will expire on March 31, 2019
but it can be extended.

Black Stars vs Asante Kotoko; good game for fans but BAD OPTION for STARS

Kwesi Appiah’s wish has been met but he should be ready to face the consequences when injuries come calling

The Normalisation Committee maybe doing their best but some things must be tackled, especially, when the country’s president has tasked us to be citizens and not spectators.

Following the ban by Fifa on Sierra Leone and subsequent cancellation of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double header against the Leone Stars, Dr. Kofi Amoah-led Normalisation Committee has quickly arranged a game with Asante Kotoko to help the Black Stars continue their fine tuning.

However, I may sound controversial but then, the game against Asante Kotoko is good but not better or best of options, methinks.

Per my checks, non of the clubs that our foreign players ply their trades with is aware of such arrangements and my sources have revealed that the Normalisation Committee believes it is not even necessary to notify them since the players have already been released.

Seriously, we’re putting our players in danger just to satisfy a few. Players like Christian Atsu has been struggling for game time at Newcastle United, same as Asamoah Gyan and Nicholas Opoku who have played only 44 minutes and 35 seconds respectively for Kayserispor and Udinese and any injury will mean that they will be out of their teams for some time.

Kwadwo Asamoah has been awesome for Inter Milan this season, just like Wakaso Mubarak for Deportivo Alaves in La Liga and any injury concern as a result of this game against Kotoko won’t be good news for everyone.

Any injury as a result will not help our preparations for the game against Ethiopia next month, therefore, to put our players in no danger, the Normalisation Committee should have either arrange for an international friendly, camp the players while training until next week or allow them to join their families.

Kotoko is a big club with good form currently, so you won’t expect a low tempo game against them, rather competitiveness.

In-form Songne Yacouba will try to prove a point, while Amos Frimpong, Richard Senanu, Emmanuel Gyamfi, Agyemang Badu and even Felix Annan will hope to use this game as a major tool to underline signals that there are still qualities back home.

Just cast your mind back to when Sulley Muntari got injured in a game with his friends back home which wasn’t part of the plan of AC Milan.

The Normalisation Committee should be careful in their dealings, although Ghanaians, especially those around Kumasi will watch the game with delight but who’ll bear the inconveniences, if any comes up later?

The narratives are good today but might change tomorrow.

Hazard is happy at Chelsea despite admitting he loves Madrid, says Essien

Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien hopes Eden Hazard stays at the club and continues his impressive form.

Hazard was tipped to leave Stamford Bridge during the transfer window, with Real Madrid said to be interested, after admitting in July he was tempted to try “something different”.

However, the Belgium star later said he was happy to stay and has been exceptional under Maurizio Sarri this season, scoring seven goals in eight Premier League appearances and netting a stunning Carabao Cup winner against Liverpool .

Hazard will have just one year left on his contract when the post-season transfer window opens in 2019, but Essien, who won eight major trophies with the Blues, is hopeful over his future.

“First of all, it’s still good to have him with us, he’s such a good footballer,” he told Omnisport . “He had a very fantastic World Cup and he came back and he’s been doing very well at the moment.

“Hopefully, he will carry the team until the end [of the season] and we will see. When you’re playing well, the big clubs will start coming. As I know, he’s happy at Chelsea so, hopefully, he can stay as long as he can.”

Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Southampton on Sunday moved them on to 20 points from their first eight games, with only Manchester City ahead of them in the table on goal difference.

Essien, twice a Premier League champion with the London club, is confident they can sustain a title challenge this term .
“It’s been good. They have had a very good start,” said the 35-year-old.

“They are playing very good football at the moment, winning games. Fingers crossed that will continue to the end.

“They can win it. The Premier League is there to be won, so fingers crossed.”

Man United should have time for Mourinho, he’ll win trophies, says Essien

Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien believes Jose Mourinho can turn things around at Manchester United after an abysmal start to the season.

The Reds have had one of their worst start to any campaign, bringing about increasing pressure on the Portuguese manager but Essien who worked with Mourinho for a couple of years at Chelsea and later Real Madrid believes trophies are certain with his former boss if he is given needed support.

“There’s bound to be pressure when you are managing United,” Essien told Omnisport.

“He’s working things through with the team.Hopefully, he can turn things around.

“Mourinho was a big influence on me when I was at Chelsea. We still talk, and our relationship is good.

“I expect Man United to give him time. With Mourinho, you are always going to win trophies,” he added.

Mourinho was on the blink of sacking on Saturday after Manchester United went two goals down at half-time but three goals in the last 20 minutes saved his head for at least, after the international break.

Mourinho will head to Stamford Bridge on October 20 with Manchester in a return to his former home where he became a global icon.

Wakaso Mubarak involved in car accident en route to Ghana for Afcon qualifiers

The midfielder survived an accident on early hours of Sunday as he stepped out for his native country ahead of the 2019 Afcon qualifier against the Leone Stars

Ghana and Deportivo Alaves midfielder Wakaso Mubarak has been involved in a car accident on Sunday Morning, AshesGyamera can confirm.

The 28-year-old was on his way back to Ghana for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double header against Sierra Leone on October 11 and October 14 but had his car being hit by another.

Although, checks have confirmed that he didn’t sustain any serious injuries, the former Villarreal player was rushed for a first aid before other medical checks were ran.

“Deportivo Alavés player Wakaso Mubarak has had a slight car accident this morning but he is in a perfect condition,” a club statement read.

“The incident occurred this morning on a stretch of the AP-68 motorway when the player was heading to the Loiu airport to travel to Ghana and join the national team.”

“Wakaso has resumed his way to the airport normally minutes later,” the statement added.

Wakaso was in action on Saturday when Deportivo Alaves defeated Real Madrid 1-0 in La Liga thanks to Manu Garcia’s late strike. He lasted 74 minutes and was shown a yellow following a rush tackle on an opponent.

Khabib Nurmagomedov beats Conor McGregor to retain UFC title

Khabib Nurmagomedov beat Conor McGregor to take his MMA record to 27-0 and hold on to the UFC lightweight title at UFC 229.

The Notorious did well with his defence and didn’t take much damage, managing to get some shots away as the Russian squeezed him on the ground for most of the 1st.

A big right from Khabib at the start of the second was followed by a knee from McGregor and once again the Russian took the challenger to the ground.

This time though ‘The Eagle’ managed to land some big right hands and a big left elbow to the side of McGregor’s head.
After a flurry of shots from the champ and more holding, McGregor was able to get to his feet and take it to the third round.

The crowd were clearly with McGregor and gave him a big roar as he stepped up from his seat at the beginning of the third and caught his opponent with some big shots early in the round.

The pair exchanged shots but the former champion was the one landing the bigger ones as Khabib failed to keep him back on the mat.
The fourth started as a tetchy affair, McGregor landing a couple of shots, before Khabib tripped the one time boxer and again took him to the mat.
This time the reverse choke led McGregor to tap out.

Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov fought in Las Vegas’ Staples Centre at UFC 229 with the UFC lightweight title on the line in the company’s biggest ever fight.

It had been two years since Conor McGregor stepped foot inside and octagon on a big UFC night, having taken a year out to have a boxing fight with Floyd Mayweather, and his return was in the biggest fight of his career.

The Notorious returned to face unbeaten Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov who had won the lightweight title that McGregor previously held, and never lost in a fight, earlier in the year and defended the title against the Irishman.

The pair’s rivalry had become heated in the build up to Khabib’s title fight with Al Iaquinta after McGregor attacked the bus the Russian was on, following a clash between him and McGregor’s friend Artem Lobov.

During the pre fight press conferences the former lightweight and featherweight champion had targeted his unbeaten counterpart for his politics and gone really personal with Khabib’s manager too.
In the octagon, before the bell rang, the pair refused to touch gloves after all animosity leading up to the fight.
