Initial reports suggested that the Youth and Sports ministry’s top hierarchy were bent on cancelling the game since due processes were not followed before it was announced to the general public but everything is currently under control as parties involved reached a consensus at a roundtable later.

“The Ghana Football Association has granted the request of HRH Sports Consultancy Ltd. to organise a special Independence Anniversary commemorative match between Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak in London,” a GFA statement read.

“The special Independence commemorative match will take place in London on March 7, 2020.

Coronavirus hits Ghana? Two suspected cases recorded

Health officials in Ghana say a Chinese and an Argentine with symptoms similar to those of the deadly Coronavirus have been quarantined at the national referral hospital in the capital, Accra.

A Divisional Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association Dr William Baah, has told television channel Joy News Wednesday that the two foreign nationals had been in Ghana from China between September 2019 and January 2020.

“They’ve all developed some symptoms that fit the case definition [but] it doesn’t mean they have the disease,” Dr Baah is quoted by myjoyonline.com as saying.

The two nationals, Dr Baah added, would undergo another testing Thursday.

He further revealed that the patients had earlier visited a private facility in the capital and reported the condition but were referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

Another suspected case had earlier been detected at the Kotoka International Airport but turned negative after six hours of isolation and testing.

“The gentleman wasn’t happy but he understood that we were doing this in the interest of public safety”, explained Dr Dennis Laryea, a National Coordinator for Port Health at the Ghana Health Service.

This is the first suspected case in Ghana and the fourth in Africa.

Isolation wards, however, stands ready at identified management centers in the nation’s capital Accra as part of measures to control a possible outbreak.

Ghana’s Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu told the media that a total of GHc2.5million ($455,000) has been committed to the fight.

The disease was confirmed in the Chinese city of Wuhan on January 7, 2020. Cases have since been confirmed in other Asian countries, Europe and the United States.

Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that range from common cold to MERS virus that is the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus and SARS, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.

On a poor continent like Africa where healthcare capacity is limited, early detection of any outbreak will be crucial.

The fear is great that a spreading epidemic of coronavirus infections will be hard to contain in countries where health systems are already overburdened with Ebola, Malaria, Measles and other deadly diseases.

Gruzah sidelines coach, names those to be blame for King Faisal’s troubles

The Green and White owner has jumped to the defence of his coach following their poor start to the season

King Faisal bankroller Alhaji Abdul Karim Gruzah has played down suggestions about the poor tactics of head coach Slavisa Buzicic despite the club’s poor start to Ghana Premier League season.

The Kumasi-based club lost at hometo Great Olympics in a seven-goal thriller on Wednesday and are yet to pick up a win after eight games but Grusah believes the coach is innocent since he was not part of the player recruitment process.

“Myself, the CEO and Team Manager are those that registered these players for the league and not the head coach who just arrived. He’s been able to polish the attackers we gave him and are getting us goals so we can’t blame him,” Gruzah told reporters.

“There has been concerns raised about his tactics and formations but I believe in his three-back system which people do not agree. I’ve never gone to coaching course before. I can’t waste my money and bring in a bad coach. This is a coach that has coached up to the UEFA level and there’s no way I can blame him in the first place but myself.

“I will urge the supporters to be patient and I promise to revive the team in our subsequent games,” he added.

Faisal will have another opportunity to search for their first victory when they host WAFA on Sunday.
