The Black Stars skipper looks to be getting his form back after making two successive starts and being impressive for the Blades in the Championship
Sheffield United head coach Chris Wilder has showered praise on Ghana captain Jordan Ayew after their 1-0 narrow victory over Wrexham United in the Championship on Friday night.
With Patrick Bamford out of the game due to a hamstring injury, Ayew was tasked to lead the attack with support from Brereton Diaz and the duo combined to find the all-important goal which later proved to be the winner in the game.
Ayew latched onto a pass, wonderfully turned his marker and released a powerful shot which the Wrexham goalkeeper could only parry away. The ball eventually fell in the path of Brereton and the 24-year-old calmly slotted it in.
“We have talked at length about Jordan,” Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield. “For a 35-year-old, his performance was outstanding. He linked the play up, and his combination play with Ben was good.
“I don’t see how anybody can be critical of him coming in having not had a pre-season, arriving a day after the transfer window shut and impressing everybody with his attitude and quality.
“His CV is there for everybody to see, and he gives us experience. He played like a proper No.9 tonight.
“It was a big blow that Pat wasn’t available, but the reason we brought Jordan in was to play that role, and he did that to great effect.”
Although, Ayew is yet to break his duck for the Blades after seven games in all competitions, he is expected to maintain his place in the starting lineup when they travel to face Preston North End on Tuesday.
