If you blink, you’ll miss it.
Netflix doesn’t usually have explicit sex scenes in their dramas, but when they do…steamy is an understatement, y’all. And, Netflix’s latest drama Sex/Life is, well, more erotic than Bridgerton, and that’s saying something.
Inspired by BB Easton’s novel 44 Chapters About 4 Men, Sex/Life follows housewife Billie who ends in a love triangle with her husband Cooper and ex-boyfriend Brad, played by the handsome Adam Demos. The sex scene in question—the one that’ll get you immediately hot and bothered, because there’s more than one, folks—is in episode 3.
Brad and Cooper are showering at the gym, and viewers get a sneak peek of everything, and we mean everything.
Yeah, that’s right—you see Demos’ freaking penis (it’s at 19:50 in case you’re wondering). And, no it’s not a body double or prosthetic.
Demos spoke to Entertainment Weekly and revealed he was entirely comfortable with showing off his junk on television: “I was okay with it because you read the script and know what you’re getting yourself into from the start, so I don’t think you would sign on to a show after reading the scripts and then say no last minute.”
He also added that there was an intimacy coordinator on-set to ensure he (along with his other co-stars) was comfortable with filming every sex scene. “We would have an intimacy coordinator and everyone would speak about it and their comfort levels,” he explained. “You would rehearse it so much that by the time you did it, it was a lot more comfortable than you’d assume. You discuss everything: hand movements, everything down to the breath. In sex scenes, the breathing is an emotional thing, so you’re discussing that journey, but then you’re also discussing each individual’s comfort level.”
And if you’re wondering if the penis scene was necessary, showrunner Stacy Rukeyser says yes.
In an interview with Collider, she said the full-frontal reveal was significant to Cooper’s development because he’s, you know, obsessed with his wife’s ex-boyfriend. “ It was important to show how down the rabbit hole obsessed he has gotten, that he is now stalking his wife’s ex-boyfriend. It’s all internal, there’s no dialogue.”
While we’re not too sure about that explanation, regardless, in case you thought you were going a bit crazy, you definitely saw Adam Demos’ penis in that shower scene.
