Ghana Police arrests Shatta Wale after verbal assault, grants him bail

Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Sheila Buckman has disclosed that her outfit arrested dancehall artiste Shatta Wale on Sunday for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

Over the weekend, a video went viral of the controversial musician in a heated verbal brawl with a police officer, who had apparently stopped an unregistered Range Rover.

The Range Rover with no number plate belonged to Shatta Wale but was being driven by another person.

Upon arriving at the place after being called, the ‘Taking Over’ hitmaker is seen in the video being verbally aggressive and finally driving off in another unregistered car along with the Range Rover.

DSP Buckman disclosed to Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, that Shatta Wale was picked up by the police on Sunday and granted enquiry bail.

She revealed that “it wasn’t just unregistered, it had no number plate at all, which goes against our laws.”

“In an attempt for the policeman to ask questions…Shatta Wale assaulted the police officer and also exhibited insulting behaviour. Because of that, he was arrested on Sunday and he’s been granted police enquiry bail to reappear at the police station this morning,” she added.

DSP Buckman explained further that, what the musician did amounts to assault according to law.

According to her, assault does not only consist of a physical battery but insults as well, especially to an officer of the law carrying out his official duties.

“If you look at Act 29 [of the Criminal Code 1960], a person does an act of assault where the intent is to lead to harm or cause any other event that will lead to harm,” she said.

She also clarified that it was an offence for anyone to drive a vehicle with no number plate at all.

Every vehicle owner must either possess the normal registration plate or an interim one (DV or DP), she said stressing “nobody can drive a vehicle in this country without any form of registration, no way!?”

Obiri Boahen’s political career practically over, says Kweku Baako

The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has reiterated the need for the deputy general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen to resign since he was a “loose-talker” and “politically finished.”

To him, even though, Obiri Boahen deserve praises for the political “courage” with which, he came out to admit it was his voice on the leaked tape in which he alleged the presidency supported the NPP’s 2017 Cape Coast conference with Ghc50billion, everything else apart from that courage was a “disaster.”

Referring to his earlier call for his resignation on Joy FM’s news analysis programme, Newsfile on Saturday, Mr Baako said, “I’m unable to retract or revise what I said earlier to that effect, perhaps it will be in his own interest if he resigned even before the party institutes any investigations or discipline proceedings.”

“He [Obiri Boahen] is my friend and apparently a lot of people have told me I have been harsh and unfair to him. He has also said the same but unfortunately, I have said it already and I can’t take it back…it is impossible, I will do a lot of injustice to my own self,” he added.

“It is incredible, to be honest with you, politically he is finished. No further comments [on this matter].”

“Look, that kind of thing, how are you going to sit with your colleagues and plan anything or discuss anything, it’s a breach of confidentiality, even if you were lying, you are a loose-talk, it would be said. And people lie, true.”

Responding to explanations by Obiri Boahen that he fabricated the story to solicit information from the person he spoke with but when he realized that the “guy” secretly recorded him, he concluded that the information was not credible, Mr Baako questioned, “where is the information he said he was getting from the other guy, where is it?

“… he wanted a strategic information to give to his party, if he has got the information where is it. You know what, the party would not have being instituting any enquiry if he had sent the information to them already, if the purpose was to take information that will help your party’s case, then you’d have sent the information already and the party would have been aware that this was a covert operation and that he had to lie to get something, it can be done, but there are too many big men these days lying, including women,” he said.

I would rather watch animals than watch Ghanaian Television – Otabil

The International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) founder, Pastor Mensa Otabil on the event of the church’s 34th-anniversary service on Sunday 4th March, gave the congregation his candid opinion about the media in Ghana.

Describing the Ghanaian media as mediocre and depressing, he said instead of them to focus on useful discussions about how to find solutions to the myriad problems riddling the country, they choose to indulge in pointless discussions about politics from January to January.

He lamented, “If you listen to our national conversations, you wonder; are we serious?” Are we? “Turn on the radio. Here there is no political vacation. From the time the vote is cast to the time the next vote is cast, we argue politics morning, afternoon, evening… Check all your top radio talk shows, take politics out and they have nothing to talk about again. I won’t even say take politics out, take NPP and NDC out. Just say, this morning no NPP, no NDC. There’ll be no conversation because we can’t even think beyond two parties. We can’t think solutions and we are driving ourselves into this abyss of hopelessness.”

He said in order not to “pollute” himself with the filth that is the Ghanaian media, he spends as little time as possible paying them any attention. According to him, he can only endure Ghanaian radio for as long as 15 minutes before tuning off because “It is very depressing. It will contaminate your soul”. “I don’t watch Ghanaian TV much. I watch a little… one, two, three, and I say Oh nothing has changed, go back.”

“I will watch animals. I’ll watch cheetah, I’ll watch lion, I’ll watch antelope anytime… I’ll watch giraffes anytime because at least they’ll tell me how to hunt, how to get to your goal, how to avoid being eaten. I’ll learn that from an antelope. At least I’d come back and say: nobody will eat me. But you listen to Ghanaian radio, watch Ghanaian TV and you wonder; are we still here, the mediocrity?”

It is apparent from the ICGC Boss’s comments that he thinks very poorly of the media in Ghana. “The excellence that we used to have is all gone down. Instead of raising the bar higher we’ve lowered it and lowered it everytime we lower it lower and lower and lower and we have huge problems”.
He said he didn’t care if western media decide to joke because they have solved most of their problems. We, on the other hand, have serious problems to tackle, yet we choose to joke. And he obviously doesn’t find any of it amusing in the least.

Hmmm… I do have a friend who would never hear a certain “Living Word” on a certain radio station because it is “Ghanaian media” and all content is absolutely trash and he/she would rather race snails.

Oxlade-Chamberlain hits back at ‘stupid’ Neville & Henry criticism

Questions were asked of the England international following a summer move from Arsenal to Liverpool, but his form has silenced his detractors

Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain has hit back at the “stupid” criticism from Gary Neville and Thierry Henry following his £35 million move to Liverpool.

After six years at Arsenal, the 24-year-old opted for a change of scenery in the summer of 2017 as his contract ran down in north London.

There was a feeling that a man who was handed his England debut and place in Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2012 plans at the age of 18 had failed to fulfil his potential with the Gunners and was in danger of stagnating.

Arsenal legend Henry claimed to have been “watching him for a very long time and I still don’t know what he’s good at”, while Manchester United icon and former Three Lions coach Neville said the Gunners had got a “brilliant deal”.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has, however, played his way into form at Liverpool and blasted back at those who questioned him by saying: “Those comments are probably a bit stupid.

“When you have watched someone long enough you know what they can do.

“If it was aimed more at the end product side of things and doing those things that lead to scoring a goal or setting up a goal then fair enough, I will take those comments on the chin. Saying you don’t know what I do, when you have worked with me, I think is a bit stupid.

“If they are referencing more end product then that is fair enough, I hold my hands up. That is something that I have been working on and still need to work on.”

He added: “It is not nice to hear it from your peers or people you have worked with and I have worked with them both in different capacities.

“They can have their opinions. It cannot shake me. The important thing is that when I came here I had a manager [Jurgen Klopp] who had faith in me and he felt something different to that, and I had faith in myself. That is why I made the step.

“Everyone says you have to be your own biggest fan and believe in yourself.

“I am old enough and wise enough and I have been around long enough to know that things will be said, and not nice things a lot of the time. And when you are doing well, nice things will be said. That is all part and parcel of it. But it is never nice to hear it from people you have worked with.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain has contributed four goals and five assists to the Liverpool cause this season and believes there is still plenty more to come as he takes inspiration from those around him.

He said: “There is more in me, I know I have to keep pushing on. I can take so much from someone like Mo Salah. Just look at him this season. It has been relentless and when someone can go from – obviously he is a great player – but to be competing with Harry Kane and Sergio Agüero for top goalscorer is something you have to learn from.

“People probably wouldn’t have expected that from him at the start of the season. To put himself in that position is down to the mentality he has to work hard and get the best out of himself.

“Every season there is always an example of people like that. You can take inspiration and I have got to keep pushing myself. I have nine games left in the league and we have the Champions League and I want to give the best of myself in those games and do as much as I can to help this team finish as high as we can.”

Polo backs Boakye’s move to Chinese side Jiangsu Suning

Former Ghana international Mohammed Polo believes Richmond Boakye Yiadom has the potential to be a success at Jiangsu Suning after joining the club in a three-year deal from Serbian side Crvena Zvezda.

The 25-year-old’s switch to the Nanjing-based club is believed to be worth €5.5 million after his reported move to French club Bordeaux failed to materialise.

The former Hearts of Oak manager says Yiadom could return to Europe if he is focused.

“I don’t begrudge him for going to China. I think he made the right decision for his future,” Polo told Goal.

“Football is gradually becoming the biggest sport in China so I think he chose the best of options for his future. We have to wish him the best of luck and hope he continues to score important goals just like he did in Serbia.

“He is a great talent and can return to Europe like those who went to China and later joined top European clubs. I wish him the best rather than criticising him,” he added.

Yiadom scored 39 goals across 48 matches in all competitions for Zvezda last term and was named the club’s best player after helping the Red-Whites reach the knockout stage of the Europa League.

Fiorentina captain Davide Astori dies aged 31

The Italy international had been capped 14 times by his country and was a vital member of the Viola’s squad

Fiorentina have confirmed that club captain Davide Astori has passed away. The 31-year-old centre-back had been capped 14 times by Italy and had enjoyed a professional career spanning 12 years.
Astori and his team-mates were preparing to face Udinese in a Serie A fixture on Sunday before Fiorentina announced the tragic news ahead of the game, which has now been cancelled.

“Fiorentina are profoundly shaken and forced to announce that their captain Davide Astori has died,” a statement posted on the club’s official website reads.

“For this terrible and delicate situation, and above all out of respect for his family, we appeal to the sensitivity of the media.”
Astori started out at AC Milan, where he never played a Serie A match, before moving to Cagliari, the club where he made his big breakthrough.

He turned out 174 times for the Sardinians in a six-year spell, during which he made his national team debut with the Azzurri.
In 2014, he was sent on loan to Roma and then a year later made a similar transfer to Fiorentina, but with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

Astori had established himself as a vital member of the squad and had turned out 27 times for the side ranked 10th in the Serie A standings this term.
Udinese confirmed that the fixture they were scheduled to play against Fiorentina on Sunday has been postponed as a consequence.

A statement read: “Following the tragic news this morning that struck the ACF Fiorentina and the whole world of football, the match between Udinese and Fiorentina has postponed to date to be arranged.”

“The venue is the challenge. We earlier had the indication that we could hold it there but as it stands, it’s a little dicey. The Canadian High Commission has an event at the Forecourt of the State House on the very day. It had been booked way back. The Black Star Square had also been booked by Aglow International,” Ebony’s father told Peace FM.

“I announced the venue but maybe my homework was not well done or something. Let’s hold on. We are meeting the Chief of Staff on Monday to finalize issues. After that, we will brief the country about the development,” he added.

The Policeman called me a rascal which got me angry, Shatta Wale reveals

The dancehall king has opened up on what transpired between him and a certain police officer which has gone viral since Friday

African dancehall king Shatta Wale has revealed that he got angry and drove off on Friday after being stopped by a police officer because he was labelled as a rascal by the officer in the process.

In an ‘amateur’ video circulating on social media, Shatta Wale was captured having a discussion with the policeman who had stopped him along the road in East Legon but all of a sudden Shatta started throwing his hands in the air in despair and later entered his vehicle and speed off.

According to AshesGyamera‘s sources, the police stopped Shatta Wale for driving an unregistered vehicle and demanded he follows him to the next police station. However, the SM boss wanted to explain certain things regarding the vehicle to the security officer which ended up in a bizarre twist.

“It got to a point people were coming around, people don’t know the relationship I have with him so he actually used the word you these rascals and I said oh, uncle, you’re calling me rascal, that’s when I got pissed,” Shatta told Peace FM.

“I was like, let’s leave the car keys with him, he can even keep the car and drive because I love him so much.

“I don’t want the word rascal, people were coming around and I didn’t want them to hear him call me a rascal and then the next thing you see and hear, my story will be all over the media. That Policeman is no person people should get worried about because he’s my man,” he added

Shatta Wale has been nominated in the 2018 Ghana Music Awards for the first time since 2013 and he is highly rated to win the Artist of the year following hit songs like Ayoo, Takin Over, Hossana, Bulletproof, Umbrella, and Forgetti.

Ayew brothers push Swansea City further away from relegation struggle

The brothers put up a superb performance against the Hammers with Andre, in particular, leaving the field with standing ovation from both supporters

Ghana midfielder Andre and younger brother Jordan Ayew were in action when Swansea City hammered West Ham 4-1 on Saturday in the Premier League at the Liberty Stadium.

The duo were starting a game at club side for the first time in almost five seasons, after Andre made a return to Swansea from West Ham during the January transfer window.

It was Sung-Yueng Ki who set the ball rolling on the eight minute, after he connected a pass from Andre Ayew to open the scoring for Swansea before Mike van der Hoorn added another to make it 2-0 by the 32nd minute as Sung-Yueng Ki, who scored the opener turned from a goalscorer to become a provider.

Three minutes after the break, Andy King made it 3-0 for Swansea before Jordan Ayew added another goal on 63rd minute from the spot.

West Ham finally got their consolation goal through substitute Michael Antonio, after Aaron Cresswell furnished him with the opportunity on 78th minute but they could not find another goals despite David Moyes pushing men upfront.

Swansea have now leapfrogged West Ham on the log despite both having 30 points, but the Welsh side occupy 13th position with superior goal difference.

The Ayew brothers are now expected to play part in Swansea’s next game against Huddersfield next weekend.
