Legon Cities prepare to hijack Asante Kotoko’s move to sign Asamoah Gyan

The Accra-based club are set to be locked in a battle with the Porcupine Warriors over the signature of the country’s all-time topscorer ahead of the new season

Legon Cities FC could hijack Asante Kotoko’s plan to sign former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan ahead of the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League season, AshesGyamera.com understands.

With barely three weeks before the season kicks off, Kotoko seem reluctant to cough out several bundles of dollars to entice Gyan despite the 34-year-old publicly ffirmed his interest to join them before be finally retires.

In effect, our sources have revealed that Gyan could be heading to Legon Cities following an interest expressed by the club’s owners as they seek to improve their squad and further increase their revenues off the field of play.

With Gyan setting up almost all his companies as well having his family in Accra, the former Sunderland record signing could likely accept the bid and remain in the capital city instead of moving to Kumasi.

Kotoko have already signed nine new players and reports suggest that head coach Maxwell Konadu is satisfied with the squad in depth since he believes Gyan’s inclusion will only improve their commercial performance not their ambitions to win the Ghana Premier League and qualify to group stage of Caf Champions League for the first time in several years.

Diego Simeone optimistic Partey will succeed at Arsenal

The Rajo Blancos boss admits he was frustrated following the exit of the Ghanaian midfielder on transfer deadline day but believes he will come good in the English Premier League

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone believes Thomas Teye Partey will live up to the expectations following his £45 million move to English Premier League side Arsenal.

The 28-year-old joined the Gunners on transfer deadline day after series of bids from Arsenal were turned down until the Premier League side matched the buyout clause of Atletico hours before deadline.

“In these situations of the clauses, we cannot give many opinions. They are decisions that are made based on the possibility that exists,” Simeone said amid his frustrations.

“As for Thomas, everything that happens to the guys who have given me a lot makes me happy. I remember the games we saw him with the B team and when he started to come through.”

“He went to Almeria; it was difficult for him to find a stable place but he is an extraordinary player. He will do well and we wish him the best. We love him very much,” added.

Partey made his League debut last weekend in a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City but he is expected to start this weekend as Mikel Arteta hopes to see his side back on winning ways.

Jerome Opoku glitters in Plymouth’s away defeat to Lincoln City

The defender of Ghanaian descent lasted the entire duration when the Pilgrims suffered their first defeat in three games

English-born defender with Ghanaian descent Jerome Opoku who is on loan from Fulham played full throttle in Plymouth Argyle’s 2-0 away defeat Lincoln City FC in English League One on Tuesday.

Coming into the game after a home win over Northampton last weekend, Plymouth were in search of another victory to extend their run to three games in a row but they were undone by their hosts.

After an incredible first half performance from Opoku and his fellow centre-back to keep the hosts’ strikers at bay, Plymouth were unlucky to concede the opener in a bizarre manner on 50th minute.

The hosts struck the post and forward Johnson took a tumble on the rebound but referee Chris Pollard pointed to the spot insisting that he was fouled. Jorge Jones stepped up and slotted the ball in before Brennan Johnson added the second goal on 72nd minute.

Plymouth came close to score a late consolation by the 89th minute after Reeves and Danny combined brilliantly to send Jephers in behind, however, the young striker lashed his effort horribly wide.

Opoku has now made three league appearances for Plymouth after seven games this season and lasted 151 minutes. He is expected to maintain his place when they host Wigan Athletic on Saturday

Adomako, who is expected to boast Maxwell  Konadu’s attacking options, previously had short stints in Belarus with FC Gomel and netted once in 18 outings before he joined Rudar Velenje on loan in Slovenia.

However, he scored three goals last season for NK Dravograd in 11 league games.

Adomako adds up to goalkeeper Razak Abalora, Yusif Mubarik, Kwame Opoku, Emmanuel Sarkodie, Abdul Latif Anabila and former Atalanta defender Patrick Asmah as the new signings of Kotoko as they hope to win the league trophy.

Ghana FA president Okraku slams NSA over exorbitant Accra Sports Stadium charges

The nation’s football association chief has slammed the decision by government’s representative to charge clubs higher fees for the use of stadiums ahead of the new season

Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku has kicked against National Sports Authority’s decision to charge clubs that will use Accra Sports Stadium.

According Okraku, the 20,000 and 15,000 cedis to be paid by category B and C clubs respectively during each home games at the Accra Sports Stadium are exorbitant figures which will only derail the plans and financial stability of the clubs.

Following the temporal closure of Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, giants Asante Kotoko have added to Hearts of Oak, Great Olympics, Legon Cities and Inter Allies as five clubs to use the venue for their Ghana Premier League games.

“I have read in the public space a statement from the NSA on new stadia user facility charges. I will say this is unfortunate and our GFA will engage the NSA on this exorbitant and unacceptable fees… !!!!!!#bringbackthelove,” Okraku posted on Facebook Tuesday afternoon.

AshesGyamera.com understands that Kotoko have also decided to play their Caf Champions League home games in Accra while Ashanti Gold will remain at their Lenclay Sports Stadium as they participate in the Caf Confederation Cup.
