Asante Kotoko miss out as FIFA congratulates Asamoah Gyan after joining Legon Cities

The Black Star captain has been congratulated by the world’s football Asamoahbody following his much-publicised transfer to the Millionaires in Ghana Premier League

Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has rceieved a congratulatory message from FIFA on Sunday following his transfer to Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities FC ahead of the 2020/21 season.

The 34-year-old signed a reported four-year deal as a free agent worth $1 million which will be paid in an installment of $250,000 each season.

Although, Gyan was close to joining boyhood club Asante Kotoko and even publicly declared his readiness to join the Kumasi-based side, negotiations fell through at a point due to disagreement on his financial demands and commercial earnings.

On Sunday, FIFA’s official twitter handle announced Gyan’s decision to to return and play in Ghana after leaving the country in 2003 from Liberty Professionals to Modena in Italy and wished him well in his stay.

Gyan is expected to make his debut for Legon Cities on November 13 in a home game against former club Liberty Professionals at the Accra Sports Stadium when Ghana Premier kicks off

Ghana FA complete Match-commisioners’ seminar ahead of 2020/21 season kick off

The Ghana Football Association (GFA), has organized a one-day workshop for Match Commissioners, drawn from Premier, Division One and Women’s League for the 2020/2021 league season.

In attendance, were President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, members of the Executive Council, General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo (Esq.), and Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association, Samuel Aboabire.

Speaking at the programme, General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo (Esq.) said the work of Match Commissioners are very important to the success of competitions of the Association hence the comprehensive workshop. He spoke extensively on amendments to the Laws of the Game, Integrity, the Competition Management System (CMS), Report Writing, the Role of the modern Match Commissioner and how to conduct a successful Technical Meeting.

On integrity, he emphasized, that any Match Official who violates the ethical principles of the Association would be axed from the game under the “No Contact” and “Zero Tolerance for Corruption” Policies of the Association.
Head of the Information Technology department, Francis Essah Adu, took participants through the effective use of the competition Management system in filing reports on matches.

Executive Council member and CAF Match Commissioner, Frederick Acheampong also lectured participants on accepted standards of overseeing Matches and the core duties of match commissioning, including countdown on match days.
A slew of rules of the game has occurred after the IFAB (International Football Association Board) approved a number of amendments and clarifications to the current Laws of the Game. To be abreast with the new rules, participants were taken through the amendments, by Referee Manager, Alex Kotey.

Other pertinent aspect of the game including misconduct, compliance and protection of the game’s integrity were discussed.

The 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season is billed to kick start on November 13 with interesting fixtures. Interestingly, the transfer window was shut on midnight of Sunday and all the clubs were at least able to strengthen the squad.

The surprising signing among all was Legon Cities hijacking Asante Kotoko’s move for Asamoah Gyan and officially announcing that the former Ghana captain has a signed a $1 million deal which makes him the highest earner in the local terrain.

Despite Kotoko’s failure to sign Gyan, they made great additions including the arrival of Ghana goalkeeper Razak Abalora and former Ashanti Gold midfielder Latif Anabila and Yusif Mubarik as well as Emmanuel Keyekeh from Karela United.

Hearts of Oak, on the other hand, signed former midfielder Patrick Razak who was free agent, goalkeeper Nana Yeboah and Eric Dizan, among others.

Meanwhile, Aduana Stars welcomed back lots of old faces including former goal king Alex Asamoah ‘Makwekwe’, Richard Mpong and Sam Adams who recently terminated his contract with Kotoko.

The 34-year-old arrived on deadline day in a deal reported to have cost them $1 million as the club hopes to fight for the league trophy this year and represent Ghana in the Caf inter-club competitions.

Aside Gyan, Legon Cities also secured the services of youngster Matthew Anim-Cudjoe who had a wonderful loan season at Asante Kotoko in the truncated season.

Also, former Asante Kotoko midfielder Baba Mahama, Raphael Ocloo Jonah Attuaquaye, Ali Braimah Foster were signed.

Others included striker Nicholas Gyan, defeender Micheal Ampadu, Joseph Adjei, Samuel Norgbey, Vincent Adu Gyamfi, Nasiru Moro, David Cudjoe and former Aduana Stars midfielder Elvis Opoku who arrived on transfer deadline day.

Legon Cities will open their season’s account with a home game against Berekum Chelsea on November 13 at the Accra Sports Stadium before they face city rivals Great Olympics at the same venue seven days later.

Their first game outside Accra will be an away trip to Tarkwa to face Medeama on matchday four.

The Millionaires have officially announced the signing of the Ghana legend as they look forward to have an awesome campaign in the Premier League

Legon Cities FC have signed former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan in a one-year deal on transfer deadline day, the club has confirmed.

The 34-year-old was initially on his way to join Asante Kotoko and although Gyan publicly admitted his readiness to join the Porcupine Warriors, the negotiations fell through midway which gave Legon Cities the chance to hijack the move.

Gyan, who last featured in the Ghana Premier League with Liberty Professionals almost two decades ago, comes with a lot of experience following a successful career which took him to Serie A side Udinese, Stade Rennes in France as well becoming the record signing at Premier League side Sunderland in 2010.

Although, Gyan has been globetrotting recently with moves to Al Ain and Alhli in Dubai as well as Shanghai SIPG in China, Legon Cities would be counting on him for goals apart from the commercial effect of his arrival.

Gyan last played for India Super League side North East United FC and our sources have revealed that he will earn over $1 million after completing his deal to Legon Cities.

Aside the arrival of Gyan, former Asante Kotoko midfielder Baba ‘football president’ Mahama has also joined Legon together with David Cudjoe, Jonah Attuquaye, Vincent Adu Gyamfi and defender Michael Ampadu.

Official: ‘Speedster’ Kofi Sam joins Karela United until 2022

The midfielder has completed his move from The Giants of the West to the Premier League club ahead of the new season

Karela United have completed the signing of midfielder Obed Kofi Sam in a two-year deal from Division One League side Sekondi Hasaacas, the two clubs have confirmed.

Sam, 22, is expected to augment Karela’s squad as they are on the hunt to improve on their previous finish in the top-flight.

“Obed Kofi Sam has left Sekondi Hasaacas Football Club to Karela United Football Club on a permanent deal,” a club statement from Hasaacas read.

“The 22-year-old spent a season at the fold of the Giants putting up a splendid performance in the 2019/2020 invalidated season.

“Obed Kofi Sam topped our assist log with 5 assists and won three Man of the Match Awards in ten matches.

“All of us at Sekondi Hasaacas FC wish him the very best of luck in the new chapter of his career. MV: Hasmal – We Go Do!,” the statement added.

Sam previously played for Thai side Nonthaburi in the Thailand First Division between 2017 and 2019 league seasons.

Newcastle United midfielder Christian Atsu’s mum confirmed dead

The Magpies midfielder woes this season has been compounded following the untimely demise of his biological mother

Ghana and Newcastle United midfielder Christian Atsu has confirmed the sad passing of his mother on Saturday.

The 28-year-old has been struggling for match fitness recently leading to Newcastle boss Steve Bruce’s decision to offload him. He was not registered for the Premier League and has been on the lookout for a new club.

And with reports linking him to Scottish giants Celtic, his mother Madam Afiko, has unfortunately passed on in Ghana after battling with a short illness.

 

Although it was initially considered a  rumour, Atsu confirmed the news on his official Twitter account and heaped praise on her in the process.

 

He wrote: ” Your life was a blessing and your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond measure as you’ve left us today.”

Berekum Chelsea captain Zackaria joins Spanish club on loan

The defender has completed his move to the Spanish second-tier side on a season-long loan deal

Berekum Chelsea captain Zackaria Fusieni has joined Spanish Segunda B side Fernando CD on loan for the 2020/21 season with an option to make the deal permanent.

The 22-year-old defender joined us as a teenager and his impressive progression at the youth team earned him a professional contract shortly after, upon the recommendation of the technical team.

Zackaria, who made his debut against Hasaacas three seasons ago, was a regular member in our first team and in recently became the club’s captain and his fine form in the 2019/20 season which was later truncated earned him a place in Ghana’s Black Stars B squad that participated and won Silver in 2020 WAFU Competition held in Senegal.

Zackaria, who is a very tall and commanding central defender, made appearances in the Premier League during the 2019/20 season.

Everyone at the club wishes Zackaria the best of luck during his season-long loan in Spain and will continue to monitor his continued development.

Some Division Two clubs have better visions than many Premier League clubs, says Frimpong Manso

The Porcupine Warriors former boss has reiterated that he is currently better off coaching in the lower tier than taking up a role at a top club which lacks vision

Former Asante Kotoko coach Frimpong Manso has insisted that he is currently satisfied with his role as the head coach of Division One League side Nkoranza Warriors and not itching to take up a challenge in the top-flight.

The experience gaffer insists that several top-flight clubs lack proper structure and vision which will help an ambitious coach to achieve his aim.

“I don’t always consider the league a club I’m coaching plays in because many times I consider the vision the club that is seeking my help has before I join,” Manso told Otec FM.

“Many at times, some of the Division Two clubs [playing in the third tier] here in Ghana have better vision and are important than some of the clubs in the Premier League,” he added.

Manso would be hoping to do the unthinkable in Zone One by guiding Nkoranza Warriors to qualify to the Premier League ahead of Tamale City FC, B.A United, Bofoakwa Tano, Berekum Arsenals and even Techiman City FC.

Kotoko ‘outcast’ Sam Adams steals the show in Aduana’s pre-season victory over Nsuatreman United

The midfielder put up a man of the match performance in the Ogya Boys’ victory in the pre-season friendly following his return from Kotoko

Aduana Stars continued their fine form in the pre-season as they pipped Division One League side Nsuatreman 3-2 at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park on Friday.

 

Sam Adams, who recently terminated his contract mutually with Asante Kotoko, scored the opener for Aduana few days after rejoining them as a free agent for the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League season.

 

The midfielder then turned to a provider and set up striker Yahaya Mohammed to double the lead midway in the game for Paa Kwesi Fabin’s side.

 

Although, Herman Quanoo and Addae Ebenezer scored two goals to cancel Aduana’s lead, Yahaya won the day for the hosts with a sublime finish. The bulky striker latched onto a pass by his teammate and sent his effort beyond the reach of Nsuatreman goalkeeper.

 

After the game, Sam Adams insisted that he is happy to have returned to Aduana and hopes to make an impact at the club this season.

 

“I’m very happy to be back. Dormaa Ahenkro is my home so let’s make history together once again,” Adams told the club’s website.

 

“I’m hoping to make an immediate impact in the new season with Aduana,” he added.

 

Aduana Stars will host Hearts of Oak on Premier League’s open day at NAB Park before they head to Nana Ameyaw Park in Techiman to lock horns with King Faisal on matchday two.
