Newcastle United midfielder Christian Atsu’s mum confirmed dead

The Magpies midfielder woes this season has been compounded following the untimely demise of his biological mother

Ghana and Newcastle United midfielder Christian Atsu has confirmed the sad passing of his mother on Saturday.

The 28-year-old has been struggling for match fitness recently leading to Newcastle boss Steve Bruce’s decision to offload him. He was not registered for the Premier League and has been on the lookout for a new club.

And with reports linking him to Scottish giants Celtic, his mother Madam Afiko, has unfortunately passed on in Ghana after battling with a short illness.

 

Although it was initially considered a  rumour, Atsu confirmed the news on his official Twitter account and heaped praise on her in the process.

 

He wrote: ” Your life was a blessing and your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond measure as you’ve left us today.”

Berekum Chelsea captain Zackaria joins Spanish club on loan

The defender has completed his move to the Spanish second-tier side on a season-long loan deal

Berekum Chelsea captain Zackaria Fusieni has joined Spanish Segunda B side Fernando CD on loan for the 2020/21 season with an option to make the deal permanent.

The 22-year-old defender joined us as a teenager and his impressive progression at the youth team earned him a professional contract shortly after, upon the recommendation of the technical team.

Zackaria, who made his debut against Hasaacas three seasons ago, was a regular member in our first team and in recently became the club’s captain and his fine form in the 2019/20 season which was later truncated earned him a place in Ghana’s Black Stars B squad that participated and won Silver in 2020 WAFU Competition held in Senegal.

Zackaria, who is a very tall and commanding central defender, made appearances in the Premier League during the 2019/20 season.

Everyone at the club wishes Zackaria the best of luck during his season-long loan in Spain and will continue to monitor his continued development.

Some Division Two clubs have better visions than many Premier League clubs, says Frimpong Manso

The Porcupine Warriors former boss has reiterated that he is currently better off coaching in the lower tier than taking up a role at a top club which lacks vision

Former Asante Kotoko coach Frimpong Manso has insisted that he is currently satisfied with his role as the head coach of Division One League side Nkoranza Warriors and not itching to take up a challenge in the top-flight.

The experience gaffer insists that several top-flight clubs lack proper structure and vision which will help an ambitious coach to achieve his aim.

“I don’t always consider the league a club I’m coaching plays in because many times I consider the vision the club that is seeking my help has before I join,” Manso told Otec FM.

“Many at times, some of the Division Two clubs [playing in the third tier] here in Ghana have better vision and are important than some of the clubs in the Premier League,” he added.

Manso would be hoping to do the unthinkable in Zone One by guiding Nkoranza Warriors to qualify to the Premier League ahead of Tamale City FC, B.A United, Bofoakwa Tano, Berekum Arsenals and even Techiman City FC.

Kotoko ‘outcast’ Sam Adams steals the show in Aduana’s pre-season victory over Nsuatreman United

The midfielder put up a man of the match performance in the Ogya Boys’ victory in the pre-season friendly following his return from Kotoko

Aduana Stars continued their fine form in the pre-season as they pipped Division One League side Nsuatreman 3-2 at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park on Friday.

 

Sam Adams, who recently terminated his contract mutually with Asante Kotoko, scored the opener for Aduana few days after rejoining them as a free agent for the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League season.

 

The midfielder then turned to a provider and set up striker Yahaya Mohammed to double the lead midway in the game for Paa Kwesi Fabin’s side.

 

Although, Herman Quanoo and Addae Ebenezer scored two goals to cancel Aduana’s lead, Yahaya won the day for the hosts with a sublime finish. The bulky striker latched onto a pass by his teammate and sent his effort beyond the reach of Nsuatreman goalkeeper.

 

After the game, Sam Adams insisted that he is happy to have returned to Aduana and hopes to make an impact at the club this season.

 

“I’m very happy to be back. Dormaa Ahenkro is my home so let’s make history together once again,” Adams told the club’s website.

 

“I’m hoping to make an immediate impact in the new season with Aduana,” he added.

 

Aduana Stars will host Hearts of Oak on Premier League’s open day at NAB Park before they head to Nana Ameyaw Park in Techiman to lock horns with King Faisal on matchday two.

Jordan Ayew features in Crystal Palace defeat to Wolves after recovering from COVID-19

The striker made an appearance in Palace’s away defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers away from the Selhurst Park

Ghana striker Jordan Ayew returned to action after recovering from Coronavirus disease when Crystal Palace suffered a 2-0 away defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Friday.

The 29-year-old was tested positive of the virus a fortnight ago when returned from international break with Ghana as he featured in the 3-0 defeat to Mali and the 5-1 mauling of Qatar in Antalya, Turkey.

As a result, Ayew was isolated and missed Palace’s 1-1 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion at home as well as the 2-1 away victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage last weekend.

He came on the 72nd minute for Andros Townsend but couldn’t do anything to cancel Ati Nouri and Podence’s first half goals for Wolves who have now moved up to third on the log.

Ayew, who is yet to score ago this season after seven games, has been named by C.K Akonnor as part of the Ghana squad that will face Sudan in the double header of 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Asante Kotoko stepped up their performance as they defeated Tudu Mighty Jets 3-0 in a pre-season friendly on Friday in Mampong Akuapem in the Eastern region.

The Porcupine Warriors recoreved from the 2-2 draw against Krystal Palace few days ago to return to winning ways thanks to an opening goal from in-form midfielder Adom Frimpong on 16th minute.

Augustine Okrah, who has been tipped by several pundits to help Kotoko achieve success this season, doubled the lead by the 35th minute with a fine finish from the sport against the run of play after a Kotoko player was brought down in the box.

Coach Maxwell Konadu made a lot of changes after the break with a different set of players replacing those who began the game.

Speedster Emmanuel Gyamfi sealed the win by scoring his first goal in the pre-season with a nice solo effort on 57th minute.

Kotoko have now won two games and drawn one in the games they have played so far when they began the pre-season tour in Koforidua. They have scored eight goals and conceded two in the process.

Baba Rahman has been ‘superb’ for Chelsea youth team and deserves Black Stars call-up, C.K Akonnor defends

The Black Stars gaffer insists the Chelsea outcast deserves a place in his squad despite concerns raised by a section of Ghanaians ahead of the AAfcon qualifiers

 

Ghana coach C.K Akonnor has defended vehemently his decision to hand Chelsea outcast Baba Abdul Rahman a place in his 23-man squad ahead of the Black Stars double header against Sudan in 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

 

The 26-year-old has been relegated to Chelsea’s youth team by Frank Lampard after he returned from his loan move in Spain and was not registered for the Blues’ Premier League and UEFA Champions League participation.

 

However, Akonnor insists he can add a bite to his defence ahead of all the players around since he has struggled to find a solution to Ghana’s woes in defence.

 

“Babà Rahman was once a regular player here. Due to injury, he was taken out. Now he is back, he is fit and he is playing well with his team [Chelsea U23],” Akonnor said during the unveiling.

 

“Unfortunately, he has not had the chance to play with the first team but he has had a couple of friendly matches in August, September and recently on October 24 which he played against Liverpool’s second team.

 

“And in these matches, he has played 90 minutes. Some were 90 minutes and and lot of 90 minutes with others 70 minutes.

 

“So we have taken a lot considerations, looking at the fact that we have a little bit of weakness within that area. I mean the full backs so I thought it is necessary to bring him to compete Gideon Mensah for that position,” he added.

 

Ghana, who are table toppers in Group C, will host Sudan on November 12 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium before they travel to Khartoum five days later for the return encounter.

 

South Africa will also lock horns with Sao Tome and Principe in the other group game.

C.K Akonnor names Boye, Wakaso & inactive Baba Rahman in Black Stars squad for Sudan clash

Ghana new coach C.K Akonnor has welcomed defender John Boye,  Harrison Afful and midfielder Wakaso Mubarak back to the Black Stars roster but left out Spezia forward Emmanuel Gyasi ahead of the double header against Sudan  in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

 

However, Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Razak Abalora maintained his place in the squad together with Richard Ofori whi recently joined Orlando Pirates from Maritzburg United.

 

Interestingly, Baba Rahman who is yet to kick a ball for Chelsea this season made the squad ahead of several active players.

Akonnor,  who lost 3-0 to Mali but defeated Qatar 5-1 in friendly games during the last international break, will be playing his first competitive game as Black Stars coach since replacing former boss Kwesi Appiah in August.

 

Ghana are leaders in Group C with six points after defeating South Africa 3-0 and Sao Tome 1-0 in their first two games.

C.K Akonnor to unveil Black Stars squad for Afcon qualifiers against Sudan on Friday

The Black Stars players who will be used for next month’s double header against the North African side will be announced on Friday

 

Ghana Football Association has announced that Black Stars head Clcoach C.K Akonnor will officially name his 23-man squad for next month’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers double header against Sudan.

 

According to Ghana FA communication team, the squad announcement will be made via the Association’s official facebook and YouTube channels, ‘Ghana Football Association’, during the live broadcast of GFA News.

 

Ghana will host Sudan on November 12, 2020 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in the first leg before they travel to Khartoum five days later for the return fixture.

 

The game will be Akonnor’s first competitive game since replacing former boss Kwesi Appiah and he would relish to make it three wins in a row for the Black Stars.

 

They defeated South Africa and Sao Tome 2-0 and 1-0 respectively before the qualifiers was suspended due to Coronavirus disease pandemic.

Ghana striker Kwabena Owusu scores first-ever goal in Europa League against Villarreal

The youngster had a bitter-sweet night as he netted the consolation for Qarabag in a home defeat to the Yellow Submarines

 

Ghana striker Kwabena Owusu was on target when Qarabag FK suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Spanish side Villarreal in Group I of UEFA Europa League at the Tofiq Bakhramov Stadium on Thursday.

 

After a pulsating first-half,  both clubs struggled to hit the back of the net as chances were limited in the game. However, the 23-year-old Ghanaian connected to a pass from a teammate and opened the scoring for Qarabag by the 78th minute.
Interestingly, two goals from Paco Alcacer cancelled his effort before Yeremi Pino sealed the win for the La Liga side in a fashionable style.
With a minute left in regulation time, Tural Bayramov came on to take the place of Owusu as Qarabag pushed men forward in a bid to stage a late comeback but it was too little to late for them.
The goal means that Owusu, who was part of the Ghana squad that participated in 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, has netted three times this season in eight appearances and could hit a double figure at the end of the campaign.
With Ghana preparing to face Sudan in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on November 12, Owusu could be handed a call up by coach C.K Akonnor.
