The football governing body’s spokesperson has admitted that they are counting on the Premier League side for the update on Thomas Partey

Ghana Football Association’s director of communications Henry Asante Twum has revealed that Thomas Teye Partey is not yet ruled out of the Black Stars’ 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan on Thursday.

According to Twum, the medical team are waiting for an injury update from Premier League giants Arsenal after Partey picked a knock on Sunday in the 3-0 home defeat to Aston Villa.

Aside Partey, defender Harrison Afful and Majeed Ashimeru are expected to miss the game. As a result, seven new players including Afriyie Acquah and Asante Kotoko defender Christopher Nettey as well as AshantiGold star Kwadwo Amoako have been handed a late call up.

“We’re expecting information on Thomas Teye Partey today from Arsenal,” Twum told Nhyira FM in an interview.

“We’re waiting on whether he will be available for the Black Stars ahead of the double header against Sudan in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“Whether he comes on miss the game, I don’t think it will affect us too much. I don’t also think the exemption of some players will affect the results but I think it will rather be an opportunity for the new players to prove their capabilities,” he added.

AshesGyamera.com understands that ten Black Stars players began training on Monday but six new players also arrived on Tuesday morning.

The second leg is expected to take place in Khartoum on November 19.

Why Ghana vs. Sudan in Cape Coast will be played behind closed doors?

The Black Stars will have to deal with their opponents without the presence of Ghanaians in the stadium as Caf reveals new guidelines for the game

Ghana’s preparations to annihilate Sudan in the first leg of 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers have been dealt a big blow as Caf has advised that the game should be played behind closed doors due to the rising of Covid-19 cases recently in Africa.

Initially, it was agreed that the stadium will take 25 per cent of its capacity to enable social distancing while fans cheer the Black Stars on but things have changed overnight.

“The General public is hereby informed that Ghana’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan will take place behind closed doors,” a statement by Ghana FA read.

“This is part of a number of measures taken by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), to ensure that games are played in the safest possible way. According to CAF, games have to be played under strict conditions to ensure that players, referees and officials are protected from the corona virus pandemic.

“The guidance outlines the processes that will need to be in place, before games are played. As a result, players, technical team members, essential service providers and ball boys will undergo a mandatory COVID-19 tests before the match.

“Members of the media are also being reminded that there shall be strict adherence to the protocols during and after the match. Journalists who intend to run live commentary shall observe social distancing during the match.”

The statement added: “There will be no post-match press conference, Mixed Zone and Flash photo opportunities as only the photographers of the two teams will be granted access. But the Communications team will conduct a virtual post-match press conference via the official facebook page of the Ghana Football Association.

“Again, the public should take note that the game will be broadcasted live on Television.

“Ghana will lock horns with Sudan on Thursday, November 12, 2020 in a match-day three fixture scheduled for 16:00GMT at the Cape Coast stadium.”

Asante Kotoko handed club from Mauritania in Caf Champions League prelims; AshGold get club from Burkina Faso

The Porcupine Warriors will be heading to the Southern end of Africa in the preliminary round of the continental competition

Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko have been handed a manageable opponent in the preliminary round of the 2020/21 Caf Champions League as they are billed to face Nouadhibou of Mauritania, AshesGyamera.com can confirm.

In a draw held on Monday in Cairo, Egypt, Kotoko will play as hosts at the Accra Sports Stadium on December 6 since the Baba Yara Sports Stadium is still under renovation and would likely not be ready for the first leg on November 29.

The winner will meet the winner of the tie between El Amal of Sudan and KVZ FC of Zanzibar

However, Kotoko and AshantiGold will have the Ghana Premier League to prepare since the season kicks off on Friday.

Airbus scandal: Man-up, voluntarily allow me to interrogate you – Amidu to Mahama

The Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu has challenged former President John Mahama to voluntarily submit himself to be interrogated on the Airbus bribery scandal.

“Your Excellency, the wise and the brave former President John Dramani Mahama, man-up, wise-up, and be brave enough to come with two lawyers of your own choice to be cautioned and interrogated by this Office to demonstrate your valour and wisdom as not being elected Government Official 1 and also as not being the first guarantor to Samuel Adam Mahama’s passport application,” Amidu said in a statement issued on Monday, November 9, 2020.

Amidu had earlier insisted that he deferred the decision to interrogate the former President because Mahama is contesting for the presidency in the upcoming general election.

Mahama was however unhappy because the Special Prosecutor made the announcement in his corruption risk assessment on the Agyapa Gold Royalties Agreement.

Mahama went on further to lambast Amidu and tagged him as a “coward“.

But Amidu has defended his outfit’s decision to defer the probe saying it is in the interest of national security.

“The long public service of the Special Prosecutor spanning various aspects of security and intelligence from the period February 1982 to 7″ January 2001, and July 2009 to January 2012 makes him more experienced in determining when it is not conducive to the national security interest to foolhardily take certain law and order actions.

The Special Prosecutor owes that exercise of discretion to his vast experience over the years, his responsibility to maintain national stability, and his conscience as a patriotic anti-corruption crusading Ghanaian. There is no question of stupidity or cowardice about it. Any person aspiring to be President of Ghana for a second term who does not know that a cardinal principle in security and intelligence is that “caution is the better part of valour” was not and is not worth the vote,” Amidu said in a statement issued on Monday, November 9, 2020.

Samatex 2-2 Asante Kotoko: Kwame Poku’s brace save Porcupine Warriors from defeat in pre-season

The Porcupine Warriors could not make it two wins in a row as they buckled up against Samatex in a friendly on Sunday

Asante Kotoko recorded a 2-2 stalemate in their last pre-season friendly against Division One side Samatex on Sunday in Samraboi.
After the 6-1 annihilation of Achiken FC in midweek, Maxwell Konadu’s charges failed to replicate that feat in the Western region.

Kwame Poku gave Kotoko the lead by the 18th minute after a quick counterattack football from the Porcupine Warriors but Samartex made it even four minutes later. The hosts’ striker Benjamin Yorke connected a pass from his teammate and fired past goalkeeper Kwame Baah.

Kotoko’s woes in the first half compounded on the 28th minute when Kwame Baah committed a penalty after he brought down a Samatex player. George Amonoo stepped up and sent the ball beyond the reach of Baah to put Samatex in front for the first time in the game.

After the break, Evans Adomako and Patrick Asmah came on for Augustine Okrah and Imoro Ibrahim respectively and that substitutions lifted Kotoko’s play in attack.

On the 58th minute, Kwame Poku calmly controlled a pass from a teammate and scored his second goal of the day to make it 2-2. The goal means that Poku has scored four goals within four days for Kotoko and six in all pre-season games.

Kwame Baah made a wonderful save by the 68th minute after coming one-on-one with a Samatex player to prevent Kotoko from recording their first defeat in pre-season.

They will open their Ghana Premier League campaign with a home game against Techiman Eleven Wonders before a trip to Golden City Park to face Berekum Chelsea.

Asante Kotoko XI vs. Samartex:

Kwame Baah (GK), Samuel Frimpong, Imoro Ibrahim, Mubarik Yussif, Wahab Adams, Kwame Adom Frimpong, Emmanuel Keyekeh, Latif Abdul Anabila, Emmanuel Gyamfi, Augustine Okrah, Kwame Opoku
