Dubai creates rain to tackle 50 degrees heat by ‘shocking’ the clouds

In the blazing sunshine at Al-Ain airport, a twin-propeller Beechcraft stands ready to fly into action at a moment’s notice on a cloud-seeding mission (pictured above). The plane is armed with an array of salt flares which are fired into promising clouds to increase condensation and hopefully trigger a downpour. Source: MailOnline.

*Drone technology used to give clouds an electric shock

*This coaxes the clouds into clumping together, resulting in rains

*Plans underway to direct water from the skies to aquifer

With temperatures at 50 degrees Celsius, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates is creating its own rain using drones that fly into clouds and unleash electrical charges.

The charges give clouds electrics to ‘cajole them’ into clumping together and producing rain.
The UAE, one of the most arid countries on Earth, hopes the technique could help to increase its meagre annual rainfall. And it is working.

The Centre said the precipitation has been enhanced by a technique known as cloud seeding, and its purpose is to increase condensation in the hope that it might trigger a downpour.
The UAE’s cloud seeding operations are part of an ongoing $15 million (£10.8m) mission to generate rain in the country.

The country ranks among the world’s top 10 driest with an average rainfall of just three inches. This is six times less than what is obtainable in northern Nigeria.

The technology is led by experts at the University of Reading in the UK.

Professor Maarten Ambaum, who worked on the special project, had said the UAE had enough clouds to create conditions which allow for rainfall.

“When the drops merge and are big enough, they will fall as rain,” Professor Ambaum told BBC.

In 2017, the UAE government provided $15m for nine different rain-enhancement projects.

Among them is another cloud-seeding technology that launches salt missiles into clouds from planes.
The country’s Abu Dhabi-based forecasters monitor weather radars to tell pilots flying official government aircraft when to take off on rain-inducing missions.

“As soon as they see some convective cloud formations, they launch us on a flight to investigate,” said Mark Newman, deputy chief pilot at NCMS.

Other instances where the technology was applied were ski resorts in Colorado, USA, where it was use to induce heavier snowfall.
The former USSR also apparently used cloud seeding to prevent radioactive fallout from Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986 from reaching Moscow.

Also, ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympics opening ceremony, it was used to create a downpour elsewhere and keep the stadium dry.

This involved firing rockets packed with silver iodide crystals into rain clouds over the suburbs of Beijing.
The UAE is also looking into methods to preserve the rain that does hit the ground, instead of allowing it to quickly evaporate or flow off into the sea.
It has built dams and reservoirs to gather water that flood desert valleys.

The country has around 130 dams and levees with a storage capacity of about 120 million cubic metre, according to the ministry report.
NCMS executive director Abdulla al-Mandoos said studies were being prepared to plan more dams and to protect water, aimed at directing rain ‘from the cloud right into the aquifer’.
“We do not want to waste a drop of water,” he said.

Match commissioner’s report exposes referee Maxwell Hanson’s deliberate attempt to cheat BA United for RTU

Although, the disciplinary committee of Ghana Football Association has ruled in favour of Real Tamale United in their away game against Brong Ahafo United, therefore awarding them three points and three goals since B.A United supporters’ actions brought the game to an abrupt end, the match commissioner’s report has been seen by a section of Ghanaians as an indictment on the centre referee.

On July 4, B.A United hosted RTU at the Coronation Park in Sunyani and the game ended abruptly following the indiscipline act of the home supporters.

Referee Maxwell Hanson ignored B.A United’s two penalty appeals and awarded a dubious one to RTU by the 40th minute which infuriated the home supporters and they invaded the pitch to physically manhandled the men in black.

Although, the referee rescinded his decision award the penalty to RTU, it was too little too late because he and his assistants had been subjected to serious inhumane treatments.

And according to the match commissioner’s report to Ghana FA, it was the referee who caused the whole unexpected chaos since he rejected the advise given to him by his assistant one and fourth referee through their communication device.

“On the 40th minute of the game, the referee awarded a penalty in favour of the Away Team (RTU). Immediately the referee pointed at the penalty spot, I overheard the Assistant
Referee I and the 4th Referee shout into the communication gadget that, it was not a penalty,” the match commissioner wrote in his report to Ghana FA.

“But the referee refused to change his decision. some fans believed to be supporters of B.A United jumped the inner perimeter and invaded the field of play, and attacked the officiating officials. The referee kept running whiles they were chasing him. They finally caught him and assaulted him, beating him severely. Some of the fans also attacked the assistant referees. Initially, the policemen kept on watching whiles these fans were assaulting the referee.

“When they saw that, things were getting out of hand, then some of the policemen rushed to rescue the referee but could not contain the angry fans of B.A United. The military was called in. They came to rescue the referees. This brought the game into 29 minutes holdup. When sanity was restored, the referee changed his decision from the penalty to drop ball. When the ball was dropped, whiles play continued, RTU fans also became furious and threw stones, sachet water, and any missiles they
could lay their hands on onto the field. The referee stopped the game. All the Officiating Officials, players, and officials of both teams massed ourselves up at the center of the field to prevent any injury.”

The statement added: “The security was called to action, it took them 15 minutes to bring the situation under control. The referee continued the game and ended the first half. When the first half came to an end, fans of both teams massed themselves with stones, sticks, and other offensive weapons at the tunnel leading to the dressing room.”

The points awarded to RTU have seen them closing in one Bofoakwa Tano with only two points difference ahead of the last round of matches to be played this weekend.

The overview of 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season by Italian writer D’Ambrosio Nicola

Last week, the GPL 2020/2021 ended with the last matches of the season.

This year, thanks to the StarTimes service, I was able to closely follow the events concerning local football in Ghana and I was surprised with some developments; both positive and negative.

Mine will not be a criticism but only the point of view of an Italian fan accustomed to Italian or European football.

I know well that Ghanaian football is a growing, expanding football, but perhaps it will also be a starting point for a process of improvement.
Positives :

-Fair play: one thing that surprised me right from the start is the great fair play on the pitch which I’m not used to seeing in Italy / Europe. I have seen very hard game clashes, serious fouls and yet in 99% of cases I have never seen players react towards their opponents by creating a fight. Great respect also towards the referees.

The Ghanaian players at every whistle of the referee, even when there was an error, very rarely protest, but calmly accept his decision. We Europeans have a lot to learn in this respect.

-Humility: in recent months I have met many journalists, footballers and people close to Ghanaian football and speaking with them I realized that they are very simple, cordial, friendly people. They do not have the arrogance that footballers have in Italy, where they are often considered or feel like divinity, and they earn millions of euros. In Ghana I rediscovered a little bit the true essence of football, the one that once was also in my country. The players and the people of football are very friendly with the people.

-Respect: I have never seen team mates arguing with each other over a wrong pass, missed pass or other mistakes. There is great respect between them, often in Italy I see fights and constant reminders between teammates for mistakes made.

Downsides
– Players – actors: a common thing in African football. I have often seen it also in Kenya and Uganda.

When a team is ahead or has a favorable result, players pretend lying on the ground, as if they were literally dying, and often they are real dramas. These attitudes spoil the show and the course of the game a bit. We need to educate the players or even the referees more to manage these episodes better.

-Fields: unfortunately the economic factor counts a lot here. The football fields in Ghana, but also in Kenya or Uganda are in very bad condition. With a few rare exceptions (those in synthetic turf by Karela, Wafa) the rest of the fields are really unwatchable. I’ve seen fourth or fifth division teams’ fields in Italy have much better fields. There is a lot of work to be done on this aspect.

Xavi Hernandez signs Ghana captain Andre Ayew at Al Sadd

The former Swans influential forward will arrive in the Gulf region on Thursday ahead of a bumper deal with Xavi’s side

Ghana captain Andre Dede Ayew will sign a reported three-year deal with Qatari giants Al Sadd after he passes medical checks, AshesGyamera.com understands.

The 31-year-old will join Sadd as a free agent after opting not to renew his contract with Welsh giants Swansea City since the club failed to qualify to play in next season’s Premier League.

Despite being linked to several clubs in Europe, including some EPL sides like Crystal Palace, Ayew is believed to have accepted an offer from Al Sadd after a telephone call from former Barcelona superstar Xavi, who currently handles the club as the head coach.

Ayew, who boasts of 91 international appearance for Ghana and has netted 19 goals, scored 16 goals in 46 matches for Swansea and led the Welsh side to the Championship play off final only to lose to Brentford.

Ayew began his career in France with Olympique Marseille before he arrived in England to play for Swansea and West Ham United. He also spent some short time in Turkey on loan at Fernabache.

Nana Yaw Amponsah exonerated to continue with Kotoko CEO job

The young and vibrant football administrator can continue with his work as the boss of the Porcupines following a new ruling on Wednesday

Asante Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah has been exonerated together with other shareholders  and directors of Phar Rangers after the appeals committee of Ghana Football Association overturned the decision of disciplinary committee to ban the club’s directors and shareholders.

The initial ruling meant that Nana Yaw Amponsah would’ve vacated his position as the Kotoko chief executive officer and miss the opportunity to vie for Ghana Football Association’s presidential elections slated for 2023.

However, Phar Rangers have been demoted to Division Three and further banned from partaking in the FA Cup in the next two seasons.

Ghana Premier League’s image dented by match fixing allegations, says Dr. Abbey

The country’s football chief has admitted that the game’s image has been dragged through mud after match fixing allegations in the game between Ashanti Gold and Inter Allies

Ghana Football Association executive council member Dr. Randy Abbey has insisted that allegations of match fixing in the game involving Ashanti Gold and Inter Allies have dented image of Ghana Premier League.

The Miners thrashed Allies 7-0 on final day of the season at the Len Clay Sports Stadium on Saturday and the goals involved Hasmin Musa of Allies scoring two own goals.

After the game, the player admitted that he scored those goals on purpose since he had intel that the game had been fixed with a correct score of 5-0 and wanted to spoil it.

“Although, in one breath I am happy we have been able to complete the season, after a very long time -since the last two before this was cancelled. I am also disturbed and disappointed by the fact that the allegations of match fixing and violence will set the FA back. However, I am hopeful how the FA deals with this issue will demonstrate its willingness and capacity to deal with such matters in future,” Abbey told Asempa FM.

“It might be unfair to Hearts of Oak becuase in all the allegations I have heard, there is non involving Hearts of Oak so if you look at it from who won the league, the top 4 and the other positions, it might be unfair, but if you look at it from the point of view of the competition with all the allegations, it taints the competition.”

He added: “We have completed the season with a winner, and there is no evidence to suggest those positions have been compromised.

“Match fixing goes against the integrity of the competition, that is why we must go deep into this issue and if there are culprits, we find them and deal with them, so the GFA will deal with them with the relevant regulations, and let the Police deal with the criminal aspect of the issues.”

Details: Why Asamoah Gyan’s Legon Cities may lose protest & suffer relegation

The Ghana’s all-time topscorer’s side looked like one of the clubs that was safe from relegation problems but the latest twist could see them heading to Division One League

Big spenders Legon Cities who have Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan in their setup may have their stay in Ghana Premier League cut short after Elmina Sharks’ protest against them keep gaining ground.

On Tuesday, Sharks were reportedly put evidences together and filed a protest against their former player Issaka Mohammed who crossed carpet to Legon Cities a couple of months ago.

The Elmina-based club’s top hierarchy argued that despite defeating Legon 2-0 last weekend, Issaka, who played the entire duration for Legon, was unqualified to take part of the game therefore their opponents must suffer further punishments.

They explained that while Issaka was part of their players in the first round, he picked up two yellow cards and did not serve the mandatory one match ban even after picking one additional caution when he joined Legon as a free agent in the second half of the season.

Issaka picked his first caution of the season at Sharks on week five against Ashanti Gold after lasting 72 minutes. He was also booked on matchday seven against Karela United- a game he played 79 minutes.
His third caution of the season was when he played for Legon against WAFA on matchday 25 and lasted 52 minutes.

In spite of the above, Issaka was used by Legon in their next game against Aduana Stars which violated Articles 28 and 33 of the Premier League regulations.
The rules states that:

“28.1. An unqualified player is:
(e) A player who has received a caution in three league matches.

Article 33 (1) A team commits an offence punishable by forfeiture of a match where:

(e) it fields an unqualified player(s) or team Official(s).

Article 33 [5). In addition to the sanctions provided in clauses 2 and 3 above in respect of offences
33(1)(a) to 33(1)(e) and 33(1)(f) respectively, the following sanctions shall apply;
(a) The defaulting club shall lose 3 points from the club’s accumulated points from other previous matches.”

Therefore, despite Legon currently sitting 14th on the log with 39 points and have a game at home against Eleven Wonders on final day, they will be relegated should Ghana FA’s disciplinary committee finds them guilty of the charge. This has becone obvious because at least, three points will be deducted from their accumulated points and a even win over Wonders will still do a little for their survival.

As it stands now, only Inter Allies have been confirmed as relegated and two clubs – including King Faisal, Elmina Sharks, Legon, Liberty Professionals and Ebusua Dwarfs- will join them to the lower tier division.

Asamoah Gyan & Legon Cities on the brink of relegation following Sharks’ protest

The Royals could head to the lower tier should they lose the protest filed against them by Elmina Sharks

Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan could be heading to relegation with Legon Cities few months after joining them as they battle relegation in Ghana Premier League.

The Royals need a win at all cost against Eleven Wonders on final day to survive the relegation scare as they are fourteenth on the log with 39 points.

However, their troubles could move from bad to worse following a last minute protest made against one of their players by Elmina Sharks -16th on the log- who are also looking for all available options to stay up this season.

Although, Sharks defeated Legon 2-0 in matchday 33 last weekend, they have still filed a protest against Legon’s defender Issaka Mohammed whom they insist was ineligible to play part of the game. They want the disciplinary committee to deduct three points from their accumulated points.

According to a report by Asempa FM, the top hierarchy of Sharks have argued that Issaka left their club to join Legon ahead of the second round of the season and was already having three accumulated yellow cards with the last one coming in their 1-0 defeat to WAFA on matchday 25 in Sogakope.

However, since Issaka joined Legon, he has been ever present in all their games and played full throttle which they claim is contrary to what the rules of the game suggest.

Should the disciplinary committee finds Legon guilty of the offence, they will be docked three points which will leave them with 36 points and a win of any margin against Wonders on the last day of the season will do little to save Asamoah Gyan and Legon.

Gyan, despite his immense impact off the field for the club, has failed to live up to the expectations on the field. The Ghana’s all-time top scorer is yet to score a goal for the club after several appearances this season.

Hearts of Oak crowned Ghana Premier League champions

The Phobians are the new winners of the top-flight for the first time in twelve years

Hearts of Oak have been officially crowned the winners of 2020/21 Ghana Premier League with a game to spare despite sharing the spoils 1-1 with Liberty Professionals at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Following Asante Kotoko’s 2-1 away defeat to Bechem United, Hearts of Oak have won their first Ghana Premier League title since 2009 ahead of last round of matches since they now lead the log four points.

The Phobians, who have used over 20 coaches enroute to winning the title, including four different coaches this season, will play WAFA on final day at Sogakope.

Hearts under coach Samuel Boadu have played 17 games, winning eleven, losing twice and sharing the spoils four times.
