Gladson Awako meets Great Olympics board over his future

The midfielder caught up with the top hierarchy of the Wonder Club to discuss his future ahead of next season

Great Olympics captain Gladson Awako met the club’s board of directors with his agent to discuss his future after a wonderful season.

The 30-year-old has been hugely linked with a move to champions Hearts of Oak and was even reported to have signed a two-year deal.

However, he met Olympics board of directors on Friday evening and was made aware the club’s plans of keeping him for next season.

The board of directors, which included GHALCA chairman Kudjo Fianoo, kicked against his move to Hearts of Oak and assured him of an improved salaries and winning bonuses should he put pen to paper to remain at the club.

Awako is one of the players which Hearts coach Samuel Boadu is believed to have targeted to sign as his side prepares for their participation in 2021/22 Caf Champions League which kicks off in September.

Awako, who is a product of Ashanti Gold academy, has previously had stints with Berekum Chelsea and T.P Mazembe and he is currently a member of Ghana’s senior national team. He is expected to represent the country at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations which will be staged in Cameroon next year.

RTU to play Steadfast in Coronation match after Asante Kotoko talks fall through

The Porcupines were initially expected in Tamale this weekend to play a coronation match with the Giants of the North but discussions could not end on good note

Real Tamale United were billed to face Asante Kotoko in a Coronation match at the Alui Mahama Sports Stadium on Sunday but the discussions fell through in the eleventh hour, AshesGyamera.com can confirm.

The Giants of the North gained qualification to play in next season’s Ghana Premier League after winning Zone One of Division One League ahead of Bofoakwa Tano on final day thanks to superior head-to-head advantage and wanted to face Kotoko in front of their supporters to celebrate the occasion.

However, with Kotoko’s season over since they were eliminated from the FA Cup quarterfinals by Berekum Chelsea, the club’s top hierarchy insisted that it is impossible to assemble their players for the game because they have already been given the opportunity to go on break.

In spite of this, RTU still pushed Kotoko to assemble players for the game but after being told the cost involved, they had to back down and settle on city rivals Steadfast.

RTU are making a comeback to the top-flight after seven years in hiatus.

‘Blame alcohol for my comments on Hearts of Oak’, father of Hearts target pleads with supporters

The shot-stopper’s move to Accra could hit a snag following agitations by a section of the supporters over comments made by his father in the past

Frank Ofori, the father of Hearts of Oak target Eric Ofori Antwi, has made a passionate appeal to the supporters of the club to forgive him following some ‘unfortunate comments’ he made in the past.

Despite Ghana failing to win the 2013 Fifa U20 World Cup, Ofori Antwi who was then playing for Amidaus Professionals, rose to fame as his performance caught the attention of scouts all over the world. As a result, he was hugely linked with a move to Hearts of Oak but his father insisted that his son will never play for the Phobians since players from Bono and Ahafo regions end up as paupers after their stints with the club.

As a result, Antwi controversially signed for rivals Asante Kotoko before joining Medeama in 2016 as a free agent.

However, Hearts coach Samuel Boadu is reported to have shown interest Antwi whom he worked with at Medeama for four seasons but a section of the Phobians supporters have kicked against his coming due to his father’s comments in the past.

“I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the Hearts of Oak fraternity for saying those unpalatable words about them some years ago,” a sober Frank Antwi told Agogo-based radio station Adanse3 FM.

“It wouldn’t happen again. I, therefore, withdraw those comments. I t is true that I swore that none of my children will ever play for Hearts Of Oak because I didn’t like the team. I want to say that I made those comments under the influence of alcohol.

“I used to be into alcoholism those days, but now I’ve changed. I don’t drink alcohol these days because I know the terrible effects it can bring to homes and families.

“I’ve regretted ever saying such things about Hearts of Oak in the past on radio and I hope their supporters will have a place in their hearts to forgive me. They shouldn’t punish my son because of my mistakes in the past,” he added.

Hearts will represent Ghana at the 2021/22 Caf Champions League after winning Ghana Premier League for the first time since 2009.

Hearts of Oak sign rivals midfielder Awako until 2023

The Black Stars midfielder has completed his much anticipated switch to the Phobians on Thursday

Ghana Premier League champions Hearts of Oak have finally signed Great Olympics captain Gladson Awako, according to a report filed by Kumasi-based radio station Oyerepa FM.

The 30-year-old is believed to have put pen to paper in a two-year deal after the Phobians meet his personal terms.

Awako was very influential in Olympics’ campaign as the Wonder Club had a stellar performance despite returning from relegation.

With Hearts set to participate in Caf Champions League in September, head coach Samuel Boadu has added the Black Stars midfielder to his already established squad in order to be able to make a mark in the competition.

Awako, who scored six goals and provided seven assists for Olympics, initially offered himself to the Phobians and Asante Kotoko ahead of the start of last season but he was rejected.

Hearts will open their Caf inter-club campaign on the second weekend of September but are yet to know their opponents since Caf have not concluded the draw processes.

The men from Ghana are safe to marry as they make homes interesting less stressful since they hardly cheat, according to a new finding

Ghanaian men have been ranked as the most faithful men in West Africa, according to a research conducted by Africa Fact Zone and reported by Daily News Ghana.

Adultery is one of the commonest problems in our society and every woman’s nightmare when it comes to even a lovely relationship or marriage.

It is not considered a debate anymore as statistics has revealed that at least not less than 50 per cent of married men will commit adultery at some point even if they are happy in their marriage.

The fact that almost half of the marriages end in divorce with cheating being the biggest cause is a complete prove of that statistics.

However, a new finding following a survey conducted by African Fact Zone indicates that Ghanaian men are the most faithful when it comes to marriage in West Africa.

Africa Fact zone, however, failed to make public the percentage or ratio of their finding that they use to declare Ghana as the most faithful.

They believe it is unlikely for a Ghanaian husband or boyfriend to cheat on his wife or girlfriend as compared to men from neighbouring countries

Techiman Eleven Wonders up for sale; club owner in financial crises

The Bono East region may be without Premier League games next season as Wonders are facing financial crisis

Ghana Premier League side Techiman Eleven Wonders is up for sale after the club was hit with financial crisis, according to reports.

The Bono East Club survived relegation last season by the skin of their teeth but despite the efforts of their players and technical team, they are yet to receive their monthly pay for the last five months.

“Things have reached a point where the club’s finances is in tatters and the owners have decided to put it up for sale. They are looking at an offer of around $350,000 to $400,000,” a source in Techiman told Ghana Sports Online.

Wonders initially rejected an offer by a famous politician from northern part of Ghana who was bent to have a Premier  League club in Tamale since the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium was relatively defunct.

However, with Real Tamale United finally qualifying to participate in the top-flight next season, it is highly impossible the said politician will make another bid.

Wonders, whose city rivals Techiman City have been relegated to Division Two, owe former player Abu Sule 33,500 cedis and has up to August 13 to pay or face transfer ban and demotion.

AshesGyamera.com can report that former Asante Kotoko midfielder Yussif Alhassan Chibsah has been contacted by Wonders to search for potential buyers on their behalf.

Government must take teachers anger over 4-7% base pay increase serious or else, says Lolih

The regional chairman of GNAT in Greater Accra has advised government to have a second look at the base increase of teachers’ salaries before the unexpected happens

The regional chairman of Greater Accra’s Ghana National Association of Teachers Ransford Lolih has expressed his disappointment in government following the 4-7 per cent increase of teachers’ base salary for 2021 and 2022 respectively.

Speaking at the 6th Quadrennial and 53rd Greater Regional Delegates Conference of GNAT on Monday ahead of a general election to select new leaders on Tuesday, Lolih said as part of his speech that there were “so much apprehension and agitation amongst members of the teacher unions.”

He further advised government to take the anger serious since it could lead to other things.

“The anger building up amongst our members must be taken seriously if we want a congenial atmosphere for teaching and learning in our schools.

“I will call on leadership to take a second look at the level of increment announced for public sector workers for the next two years.”

NAGRAT’s Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Rene Senyo Kwamikokor, also highlighted the concerns of GNAT, noting it added to other concerns with the conditions of service of teachers.

“Our problems are many, and we urge the rep of government here to listen to them, especially that of GNAT so that there will be relief for teachers,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress, Dr. Yaw Baah has advised teacgers to exercise patience as their concerns will be addressed sooner rather than later.

“The outcome was not what we had expected, but it could have been worse, given the economic challenges and the stance of government towards pay rise, particularly in 2021,” Dr. Baah said.
The TUC, which negotiated with the government as part of organised labour, was able to ensure that, within the next two years, the government shall not declare any public sector worker redundant.

They also agreed that the government shall not freeze employment in the public service, and that all workers must be vaccinated against Covid-19 during the next two years.
It also agreed that government will pay social security contributions regularly.
