Gyamfi sends emotional message to departing Kotoko captain Felix Annan

The midfielder has eugolises his former teammate after he opted to leave the club for another challenge elsewhere

Asante Kotoko midfielder Emmanuel Gyamfi has penned an emotional message to former teammate Felix Annan who left the club last week.

Annan, after spending a decade at Kotoko, decided to mutually terminate his contract with the club and move on since he was unsure of his future. He lost his place in the team to Kwame Baah and later Razak Abalora.

However, Gyamfi after spending five seasons together with Annan at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and won several trophies including the FA Cup and Normalisation Committee Cup says he will miss his company.

“You are a great person. We met as a colleague but over the years you have become a true friend and a brother,” Gyamfi wrote on Facebook.

“You have always been supportive and motivated us to do better. Indeed, I feel privileged that I had the opportunity to play under your leadership.

“Thank you for all the historic moments we had. No matter where you go, we are still going to be tied in our hearts by the friendship we share and your unparalleled loyalty to Asante Kotoko will forever remain in our hearts, Best of Luck! Captain,” he added.

Gyamfi is expected to step in the shoes of Annan as the new Kotoko captain ahead of the start of 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.

OFFICIAL: Ogum appointed Asante Kotoko coach until 2023; All what you should know about him

The lecturer cum football coach has been ushered in at Baba Yara Sports Stadium as a replacement for the former Portuguese coach who mutually terminated his contract few days ago

Asante Kotoko have confirmed the appointment of Prosper Ogum Narteh as the club’s new manager and he will be at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium until 2024 having signed a two-year deal on Saturday.

The Porcupine Warriors moved swiftly to bring in the former WAFA coach following the decision to mutually terminate their contract with Portuguese coach Mariano Baretto on Friday.

The 41-year-old coach will be charged with the task of reviving the fortunes of Kotoko after they went trophy-less having failed to win Ghana Premier League and got eliminated from the FA Cup in the round of 16 by Berekum Chelsea.

“We’re delighted to announce Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum as our new Head Coach,” a Kotoko official statement read.

“The Sports Psychologist , Educationist and coach joins us on a 2-year deal from WAFA, having previously handled UCC Soccer Team, Elmina Sharks, Dwarfs and Karela Utd,” the statement added.

What length of contract has Ogum signed?

Ogum, who was the head coach of WAFA and Elmina Sharks, has signed an 24-month contract, with the option of a further year in Kumasi.

His predecessor, Baretto, had been handed a one-and-half-year contract when he was appointed Kotoko boss in March following the sack of Maxwell Konadu. He, however, spent only six months of it but Ogum is expected to last the full duration of his contract.

When will Ogum take charge of his first game?

Ogum will play his first competitive game with Kotoko between October 29 and 30 when the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season finally kicks off. Before that, he will taking them through the pre-season.

What can Kotoko supporters expect to see under Ogum?

Ogum’s biggest asset is his tactical flexibility and ability to develop players into finish products as well as his vision. He is well known for deploying a 4-3-3 formation, and at times twerk it to a 4-4-2, 3-5-2, and 4-1-4-1 formation with variations.

As a doctorate degree holder, Ogum is also good in research and will go beyond what he has heard about the Kotoko players to know their hiding capabilities. He hugely improved Augustine Boakye and Justus Torsutsey at WAFA last season.

Educational background:

Ogum is a trained teacher. He is a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast Department of Health, Physical Education & Recreation (HPER). Ogum holds a CAF License A badge.

Honours:
Ogum is not a serial winner as he is yet to win a major trophy with any of the clubs he has coached in the past. However, he has picked several accolades at school games with the University of Cape Coast school team.

Ogum has become the seventh manager Asante Kotoko have appointed in three years after C.K Akonnor, Kjetil Zachariason, Maxwell Konadu, Johnson Smith, Abdulai Gazelle and Mariano Baretto.

Ghana’s Salisu Mohammed shines as Southampton holds Man City in Premier League

The centre-back proved his worth once again as the Saints held the Blues to a goalless draw at St. Mary’s Sports Stadium on Saturday

Ghana defender Salisu Mohammed was a first half substitute when Southampton surprisingly held Manchester City to a goalless draw in the Premier League at St. Mary’s Sports Stadium on Saturday.

The 22-year-old was brought on to replace Jack Stevens who picked up an injury by the 37th minute. Salisu combined beautifully with Jan Bednarek at the back as the Saints prevented City from scoring or win the game.

Salisu’s Southampton almost took the lead in the second half of the game after referee John Moss awarded them a penalty only it to be overturned after a VAR check.

Salisu is yet to make his international debut for Ghana after turning down an opportunity from former coach Charles Kwablah Akonnor.

It is likely that he will finally accept the invitation when a new coach arrives as Ghana prepare to face Zimbabwe in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers in October.

The Black Stars need a win badly to overtake South Africa who currently lead Group C with four points after two games.

BREAKING NEWS: Hearts of Oak vs Kamsar to be played behind closed doors

The Phobians won’t have the advantage over their visitors after Caf ruled that their game against the Guinean club should be played without supporters

Ghana Premier League winners Hearts of Oak will face CI Kamsar in the preliminary round of the Caf Champions League without supporters at the Accra Sports Stadium, AshesGyamera.com understands.

The Phobians were initially billed to travel to Guinea last weekend for the first leg but that game was cancelled due to the political unrest in the country.

As a result, Caf ruled that a one-off game must be played at the Accra Sports Stadium where the winner after regulation time or penalty shootouts will progress to next stage.

Although, Hearts initially announced match tickets for the game, reports suggest that the game will be behind closed doors as no supporter will be allowed entry into the facility.

According to reports, Caf wants to provide a level playing ground for the two teams since Kamsar did not have the opportunity to host Hearts in Guinea in front of their supporters

Also, photographers, police, red cross and ambulance personnel that will be having access to the inner perimeter during the game have been ordered to undergo Covid-19 tests.

Hearts will be without their new signing Gladson Awako after the midfielder reportedly left the team’s camp and wants his contract terminated due to spiritual attacks.

The winner after the game tomorrow will meet Wydad Athletic Club from Morocco in the second round for a place in the group stage.

Breaking News: Gladson Awako wants to quit Hearts after just four weeks; the reasons

The midfielder has left the Phobians camp ahead of their Caf Champions League clash with the Guinean side on Sunday

Hearts of Oak midfielder Gladson Awako has reportedly fled from the club’s camp few days ahead of their Caf Champions League clash against Guinean side CI Kamsar.

The 30-year-old joined the Phobians from Great Olympics in an undisclosed fee and although he had a good start in the club’s pre-season games, he has reportedly opted to terminate the contact.

Awako is believed to have reported that he has been constantly attacked by spirits ever since he joined the Phobians. This has made it very difficult for him to sleep and therefore wants to cancel the contract and go back to Olympics.

Although, Hearts are yet to officially make a statement about the reports, Awako was seen leaving the team’s camp earlier this week and has refused to return.

Hearts will therefore meet Kamsar in the preliminary round of the Champions League without him on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Chelsea star Hudson-Odoi hints at his readiness to play for Ghana over England

The youngster’s growing frustrations over missing out the Three Lions squad is gradually pushing him to represent Ghana in future

Chelsea midfielder Callum Hodson-Odoi has not ruled out a the possibility of playing for Ghana ahead of England.

The 20-year-old feels he has been unfairly treated and therefore could represent Ghana at the senior level since England always want him in the junior team. He was recently in Africa and visited Ghana where his parents hail from to fraternise with the culture and of his forefathers.

He even met Ghana president Nana Akufo Addo and Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku during his visit.

“I think obviously when you’re young, you have the opportunity to play for England throughout all the years, from under 15 to under 16 all the way up,” Hudson-Odoi said when he was asked about the chance of playing for Ghana,” he said.

“When they obviously gave me the opportunity to come I was in the country already.

“It’s something that I already had in my mind, set on already playing for England.

“So it was the thing obviously choosing Ghana or England, and at the end of the day I said I always had the right people around me who always advise me – what’s right, what’s wrong. England came and I said ‘Yeah, let me go and play for my country.

“But I said Ghana is my home as well, so we’ll see, we’ll see. You’ll never know, so.”

Although, Hodson-Odoi became the youngest person to ever make a match-day appearance for England in the European Championship qualifier against Czech Republic last two years, he is still eligible to represent Ghana since he didn’t feature in the game.

BREAKING NEWS: Mariano Baretto finally signs termination of contract with Asante Kotoko

The Portuguese has finally vacated his position as the Porcupine Warriors head coach and will not return to the country any longer

Asante Kotoko have mutually cancelled their contract with Portuguese coach Mariano Baretto after series of back and forth on Friday evening, AshesGyamera.com can confirm.

The 64-year-old signed a one-and-half-year contract with the Porcupine Warriors in March after Maxwell Konadu was scared but things didn’t go as planned.

Baretto failed to guide Kotoko to win the Ghana Premier League title and could only help them reach the quarterfinals of the FA Cup last season.

He recently started a media war with the club’s chief executive officer Nana Yaw Amponsah and revealed that the club lacks basic infrastructures like washing rooms for players and coaches as well offices.

These didn’t go down well with the club and after several consultations, the two parties have agreed to end the marriage.

“Mariano Baretto is no more Asante Kotoko coach and I can confirm it to you. An agreement was reached on Friday and he will therefore not return to the country as earlier reports suggested,” a source close to the coach told AshesGyamera.com.

“A lot of things went into the decision and I can say that both parties are now satisfied. He will obviously receive some compensation since it was Kotoko that initiated the move because he e was ready to return to Ghana and begin the pre-season.

“Kotoko are free to appoint any coach of their choice going forward. Baretto can also join any club now wherever he seems it fit,” the source added.

AshesGyamera understands that WAFA coach Prosper Ogum Narteh is likely to replace Baretto baring any last minute changes. He wass even aware of the players that the club has already signed

BREAKING NEWS: AshGold & Inter Allies face five years ban after GFA charged them for match fixing & manipulation

The two clubs stand the chance of being demoted to lower divisions after they were suspected and charged of playing match of convenience

Ghana Premier League side Ashanti Gold have been charged on three counts following their matchday 34 game against Inter Allies in Obuasi in July.

After a hearing by Ghana FA’s disciplinary committee, the two clubs stand the chance of demotion and further face a five year ban for manipulation of match results.

One Inter Allies player deliberately scored two own goals and later argued that he did that to prevent match of convenience after hearing that the game will end 5-0. His two goals sent the scoreline to 7-0 after 90 minutes.

“Ashantigold SC and Inter Allies FC have both been charged by the GFA Prosecutor on counts of misconduct for match manipulation in their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Week 34 match played at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on July 17, 2021,” Ghana FA statement read.

“After investigations into the acts of misconduct, the GFA Prosecutor charged Ashantigold SC on three counts of misconduct for breaching Article 34(5)(a), Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019, Article 18(1) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019.

“Inter Allies FC have also been charged on two counts of misconduct for breaching Article 34(5)(a) and Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019.

“Both Clubs are expected to submit their Statements of Defence to the charges on or before Wednesday, September 22 after which the GFA Disciplinary Committee will adjudicate their cases respectively.
Some Players and Officials of both Clubs have also been charged,” the statement added.

Check a portion of the GFA sanctions

If both clubs are found guilty, the minimum sanctions for them are five year ban and demotion to the nearest lower league as well as a fine of 100,000 cedis.
