Kotoko announce two new assistant coaches; What then happens to Johnson Smith & Gazelle?

The Porcupine Warriors have announced the arrival of two new backroom staff who will assist the new head coach for the next two seasons

Asante Kotoko have confirmed the signing of David Ocloo and John Eduafo as the new assistant coaches for the club until 2023.

The duo, who will assist new head coach Prosper Ogum Narteh, have arrived at the club at a time where Johnson Smith has been allowed to leave following the expiration of his contract.

Also, Abdulai Gazelle has been resigned to the junior team as Kotoko want to revamp their youth system in order to produce quality players in the future.

Gazelle is currently on his way to United Kingdom for a refresher course at Kotoko’s partners Southampton until the end of October.

Meanwhile, with the new Ghana Football Association’s requirement that even assistant coaches of Premier League clubs must hold Caf License A certificate, Smith will have to upgrade himself in the coming months or go off the radar since he only boasts of license B certificate.

“We are glad to announce that Coach David Ocloo and Coach John Eduafo have joined our newly appointed Head Coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum as Assistant Coaches.Welcome, gentlemen,” a club statement read.

Kotoko began their pre-season training on Monday at the Adako Jachie training ground and they are expected to play series of friendly games in the coming days.

The 2021/22 Ghana Premier League campaign will kick of on October 29.

Ogum has become the seventh head coach appointed by Asante Kotoko since 2019 after C.K Akonnor, Kjetil Zachariason, Maxwell Konadu, Johnson Smith, Abdulai Gazelle and Mariano Baretto.

Confirmed: Milovan Rajevac arrives in Ghana; set to meet Youth & Sports minister

The Serbian has touched down in the country and he is expected to meet the Youth and Sports minister before he is confirmed as Black Stars coach

Serbian Coach Milovan Rajevac has arrived in Ghana and will have a brief meeting with top hierarchy of Ghana Football Association over his impending appointment as Black Stars new coach, AshesGyamera.com can reveal.

The 64-year-old touched down in the country last night after he was told to come and conclude negotiations before he will be unveiled as the new coach.

Milovan will meet Ghana’s youth and sports minister Ussif Mustapha later in the day to conclude his renumeration.

Although, Ghana FA set up a three man committee to search for a new coach, reports suggest that they settled on Milovan and he will have to come down to finalise the negotiations.

Milovan will be making a return to Ghana after more than a decade away having led the Black Stars to reach the quarterfinals of the 2010 Fifa World Cup held in South Africa.

That year, his good works didn’t go unnoticed as he was adjudged African Best Coach of the Year.

With Ghana are struggling in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers, currently sitting second position in Group C behind leaders South Africa, Milovan is expected to turn the fortunes around and guide the Black Stars to make it to Qatar next year.

If he is confirmed in the coming days, his first major assignment will be the game against Zimbabwe at either Cape Coast Sports Stadium or Baba Yara Sports Stadium on October 5. The Black Stars will then head to Harare four days later for the return encounter.

Ogum’s first interview: ‘I want to make Asante Kotoko the best club in the World’

The Porcupine Warriors coach has promised in his first ever interview after sealing a two-year deal that he wants to make them the best in the world

Asante Kotoko new head coach Prosper Ogum Narteh has set a an enviable task for him as promises to make the club the best in Ghana, Africa and the World at large.

The 44-year-old was officially announced as Kotoko’s coach on Sunday following the club’s decision to mutually terminate the contract they had with Portuguese gaffer Mariano Baretto.

Although, Ogum is yet to meet his players and also play his first game as the coach, he believes that Kotoko will be rated the biggest club on the globe after his reign and has also assured the supporters to leave a remarkable memory in their minds.

“I will do my best to make Asante Kotoko Sporting Club the best club in Ghana, Africa and the world.

“I am awfully grateful for this opportunity to serve such a great club Kumasi Asante Kotoko. Everyone will happy.

“I would like to use this opportunity to thank you all for your congratulatory messages, compliments and best wishes. I’m very grateful.

Ogum is expected to begin works on Monday as Kotoko players arrive for the pre-season before the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season commences in October.

Ogum has become the seventh coach the club has appointed since 2019 after Charles Kwablah Akonnor, Kjetil Zachariason, Maxwell Konadu, Johnson Smith, Abdulai Gazelle and Mariano Baretto.

Hearts coach Samuel Boadu explains how he tactically defeated Kamsar’s coach

The Phobians boss has shed light on his tactics that did the magic to to through to the next stage of the competition

Hearts of Oak coach Samuel Boadu has revealed that he deployed a different tactical approach in the second half of the game against Guinean side CI Kamsar.

The Phobians needed two late goals from substitutes Kofi Kordzi and Salim Adams to break down the resilient defence of Kamsar.

“I realized CI KAMSAR were so compact and we couldn’t penetrate so I had to change my approach by using high balls,” Boadu said after the game.

” I realized that their defenders of were not good in the air. That’s how come we punished them with two quick goals and carry the day,” he added.

The victory means that Hearts have now picked their first win in the competition since defeating Esperance de Tunis in 2015.

Hearts will now prepare to face Wydad Athletic Club from Morocco in the first leg of the last qualifying round on October 22 before they travel to Casablanca for the return fixture a week later.

The winner of after the tie will make it to the group stage while the loser drops to the Caf Confederation Cup to battle for qualification to the group stage in that competition.

FT: Hearts 2-0 Kamsar: Kodzi & Salim send Phobians closer to Champions League group stage

The Phobians are just one step away from making it to the group stage of the Caf Champions League after the win over their Guinean opponents

Hearts of Oak defeated Guinean club CI Kamsar 2-0 in the preliminary round of the Caf Champions League at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Hearts presented a strong starting line which and that worked the magic for them despite initially wobbling.

Goalkeeper Richard Attah was selected over Ben Mensah and Richmond Ayi while captain Abdul Fatawu Mohammed, Raddy Ovouka, Robert Addo Sowah and Mohammed Alhassan made up the back four.

Boadu deployed two defensive midfielders in the shape of Caleb Amankwah and Frederick Ansah Botchway while Emmanuel Nettey, and Salifu Ibrahim played the offensive role.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Isaac Mensah led the attack.

Two late goals from substitutes Kofi Kodzi and Salim Adams changed the story after a difficult start for the Phobians.

Hearts of Oak players receiving advise from coaches

After a pulsating opening ten minutes, Hearts exerted themselves on their opponents and began to cause troubles.

Accra Sports Stadium is fully prepared to host Hearts of Oak as they host to play CI Kamsar in the preliminary round of the Caf Champions League this afternoon.

A lot of COVID-19 protocols were put in place which included no supporters allowed to watch the game from the stands.

Also, photographers and paramedics who will be in the inner perimeter were made to undergo Covid-19 tests too prove that they negative.

Amos Frimpong starts as CI Kamsar name squad to face Hearts of Oak

The former Porcupine Warriors skipper will start against the Phobians in the all-important game on Sunday

Former Asante Kotoko captain Amos Frimpong has been named in the starting line up of CI Kamsar as they prepare to face Hearts of Oak in the Caf Champions League preliminary round at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Frimpong joined Kamsar in a one-year deal last month from Techiman Eleven Wonders and he will be hoping to inflict troubles to Hearts’ campaign.

However, Ghanaian duo of midfielder Martin Antwi and striker Sampson Eduku will have to start the game from the bench.

The first leg of the tie in Conakry was cancelled due to the coup d’etat that took place in Guinea a fortnight ago. As a result, Caf announced that there will be a one-off game in Accra to decide who progresses to the next stage.

Hearts supporters have been dealt a big blow since the game will be played behind closed doors.

The Phobians have named their players that will play against the Guinean side as they hope to progress in the Caf inter-club competitions

Ghana’s sole representatives in the Caf Champions League, Hearts of Oak, have their squad that will be available for selection in the game against Kamsar at Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Coach Samuel Boadu will have to select from the five goalkeepers available and then add ten outfield players to him to make up the number.

Reports from the Phobians camp suggest that Richard Attah will be in post ahead of Ben Mensah and Richmond Ayi.

Captain Fatawu Mohammed will obviously start on the right side of attack while Congolese international Raddy Ovouka takes up the responsibility of the left side. Mohammed Alhassan and Robert Addo Sowah will be the centre backs.

In midfield, Emmanuel Nettey,Ibrahim Salifu, Salim Adams, Patrick Razak and Michelle Sarpong may start while Afriyie Barnieh and Isaac Mensah starting attack.
