Meet Steven Mukwala; the Ugandan striker Asante Kotoko want to ‘BREAK’ bank to sign

The Porcupine Warriors are still keeping tabs on signing the Ugandan striker before the new season commences in October

Asante Kotoko have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Uganda Revenue Authority (URA FC) striker Steven Mukwala ahead of the start of 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season, AshesGyamera.com understands.

Although, Kotoko’s initial plans to have him last season under Maxwell Konadu failed, new coach Prosper Ogum Narteh is believed to have shown interest in his services after watching his clips and reading his exploits.

Makwala, 22, who is a Uganda international, joined URA FC from Vipers FC last year after his negotiations with Kotoko hit a snag but with chief executive officer Nana Yaw Amponsah under pressure to win Ghana Premier League in his second year at office, the club could break the bank and sign him.

Following the departure of forwards Augustine Okrah and Naby Keita, Kotoko are keen to bolster their attacking options since they currently have only Evans Adomako, Solomon Sarfo Taylor, Osman Ibrahim and Andy Kumi. These players available could not even score a combined twenty goals among them in all competitions last season.

Reports are wild in the local media that Mukwala will arrive in the country in the coming days to finalise negotiations and then put pen to paper with the Kumasi-based club should he pass the medical.

Mukwala, who was part of the Uganda national team squad that shared the spoils goalless against Guinea in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers, is a proven goalscorer.

He banged in 13 goals after 22 games in the 2019/20 season to win the Ugandan Premier League topscorer award when on loan at Maroons FC.

Last season, he scored 14 goals after 24 matches for Uganda Rivers Authority (URA FC) to end the season as the club’s topscorer.

Their biggest test will be the away fixture in the Super Clash against Hearts of Oak on matchday seven at Accra Sports Stadium. The return leg of the Super Clash has been scheduled for matchday 24 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

I’m begging you, don’t prosecute me – Takoradi woman confesses not pregnant

The 28-year-old Takoradi woman Josephine Mensah found a few days after reportedly going missing has pleaded with the Police not to prosecute her after confessing she was not pregnant.

She admitted to not being pregnant to Police Psychologist and health workers at Effia Nkwanta Hospital in the Western Region on Friday, Police sources have told 3newscom.

She has since been “whisked” to the Takoradi Central Police Station, the sources added.

Earlier official complaints lodged by her husband at the police station on Friday, September 17 indicated that she was heavily pregnant and had been kidnapped.

But after being found at Tolanu, a suburb of Axim, exactly five days later, she was without her supposed nine-month pregnancy.

This heightened fears about the turpitude of her alleged kidnappers in the Western Region.

The controversy took another dramatic twist as the police administration disputed claims that GHȻ3,000 ransom was paid to the alleged kidnappers.

Aide to the Western regional minister, Justice Acquah, had said the minister gave an amount of 3,000 to the police to facilitate the release of the lady.

“At the point of the payment, the mother was collaborating with the police to find the exact location of the woman. The Minister gave the money to the police to give to the kidnappers because he wanted to get to the bottom of the matter. It was an amount of GHS 3,000 given to the police through the Regional Commander. But the kidnappers initially demanded an amount of GHS 500 and increased it to a GHS 1,000”, he said in an interview.

But the police administration says it is unaware of such payments.

“Nothing of the sort came before the police here in Accra and we distance ourselves. The police administration distance itself from such matters”, Director-General, Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwesi Ofori said.

The Minister’s aide however stands by his comments. He insists the money was given to the police for the purposes of paying a ransom

The Serbian has been finally unveiled as the Black Stars head coach following a press briefing held on Friday in Accra

Ghana Football Association has officially named Milovan Rajevac as the new head coach of the Black Stars after the much-anticipated press briefing held on Friday in Accra.

The Serbian, who left the country a little over a decade ago, signed a two-year deal to replace Charles Kwablah Akonnor who was sacked a fortnight ago following a poor run of results.

Meanwhile, Legon Cities coach Maxwell Konadu has been named as an assistant coach to Milovan as he is expected to help him with his indepth knowledge about the local game.

Although, initial reports suggested that Otoo Addo was being considered for the vacant position, the Borussia Dortmund assistant coach opted not to accept the opportunity.

Milovan, who is making a return to Ghana after guiding the Black Stars to reach the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, will play his first game against Zimbabwe in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers next month before he wrap up the qualifiers in November against South Africa.

The former Algeria coach is expected to earn $30,000 per a month and $300,000 as winning bonus should he guides Ghana to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

His first target is to qualify Ghana to to the World Cup as well as win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Cameroon next year.

Milovan spotted with Maxwell Konadu at GFA office ahead of imminent appointment

The Serbian has been seen at football association’s headquarters on Friday ahead of the press briefing

Former Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has been spotted at the Ghana Football Association headquarters ahead of the much-anticipated press briefing.

The Serbian is expected to be confirmed as the new coach of Black Stars after Charles Kwablah Akonnor was sacked a fortnight ago following a poor run of results.

Legon Cities coach Maxwell Konadu was also seen at the premises and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is named as an assistant coach to Milovan together with Otto Addo who currently works for German Bundasliga side Borrusia Dortmund.

Milovan is also expected to sign a one-year deal with an option to renew depending on his performance which will run from September 2021 to September 2022.

This means that Milovan will pocket $5,000 more than the salary that was paid to Akonnor since the former coach was taking home $25,000 after sealing his deal in December 2020.

According to a report filed by Joy Sports, if Milovan is able to guide the Black Stars to win any game, he will take twice the amount each player will receive which means that he will be paid $10,000 as winning bonuses.

Again, should he help the Black Stars to annex the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Cameroon, he will be paid $300,000 as bonus.

Although, Milovan is yet to be unveiled as the new Ghana coach, reports suggest that he was made aware of the players that will be called up for 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe on October 5 at the Cape Coast Sports before the return fixture takes place four days later in Harare.

With Milovan making a return to Ghana after guiding the Black Stars to reach the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, a lot of people have shared divergent opinions.

Former Ghana defender John Paintsil who worked under Milovan believes the Serbian may fail in his second coming since the atmosphere surrounding his initial stay differ from what is currently happening.

He is expected to play his first game against Zimbabwe in the double header before he wrap up the World Cup qualifiers in November against South Africa.

Although, his efforts together with other members in 2019 nearly saw New Edubiase securing a ticket back to the top-flight, the division one league was truncated because of Anas exposé.

Prosper Narteh explains why Asante Kotoko will win Ghana Premier League & other titles

The Porcupine Warriors be boss insists he has quality players to he help him challenge for the league trophy next season

Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Ogum Narteh believes the club has quality players to win the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.

The 44-year-old signed a two-year deal with the club last week to replace Mariano Baretto whose contract was mutually terminated.

Although, Baretto slammed the lackadaisical approach some of the players exhibited during last season and his assistant coach Johnson Smith added that only four players deserved to play for the club, the new coach has other ideas.

He insists there is a lot of quality among the squad and they should be able to win trophies if only they blend into a quality team.

“I think we have the quality to let us play and win trophies this season. I believe that talent will always win you games, teamwork will let you win championships,” Narteh told the media at training ground.

“I believe that the quality we have now, if I’m able to blend them into a good team that knows its structure, that knows how to move with and without the ball, tactical awareness, what they have to do with and without the ball and giving them information about the opponent – how the play on offence and defense, I think once these things are done at training, with the quality we have in the team, we should be good to go,” he added.

Following the departure of the club’s captain Felix Annan, midfielder Augustine Okrah and defender Wahab Adams, Kotoko have also signed Inter Allies prodigy Richmond Lamptey, Clinton Opoku from Phar Rangers and defender Maxwell Agyemang from Wamanafo Mighty Royals to bolster the squad.

They finished second last season behind fierce rivals Hearts of Oak and only reached the quarterfinals of the FA Cup
and are hoping for an improvement.

Narteh also guided his former club WAFA to finish third, behind Kotoko and he is expected to work magic around for the Porcupine Warriors this season.

The Serbian was set to be unveiled as the new Black Stars coach but the Sports ministry is not ready to confirm his second coming

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has vehemently rejected claims that they have agreed to appoint Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac as the new Ghana senior national team coach.

Talking to Angel FM on Thursday, deputy Youth and Sports minister, Evans Bobie, insisted that they have not met Milovan despite reports suggesting that he is in the country.

He also added that the ministry has not received any official letter from Ghana Football Association introducing the Serbian to them as a suitor to the vacant job.

“We haven’t approved Milovan Rajevac as the new Black Stars coach,” Bobie said.

“We are even yet to receive the GFA committee’s report.

“Per our checks as a ministry, we have not seen Milovan. We have not even received any reports from the FA regarding the appointment of a new coach not to talk about Milovan.”

“He is not the coach of Ghana as I’m speaking to you today so the reports are untrue,” he added.

Earlier reports in the local media suggested that Milovan was going to earn between $30,000 and $45,000 salary per each month and a whopping $100,000 as signing on fee. He was also believed to be paid $300,000 if he guides Ghana to win 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
