‘I would’ve killed him if he was my teammate’; Thierry Henry blasts ‘unserious’ Jordan Ayew

The Gunners legend believes Jordan Ayew should be burying clear chances to become a potent striker in future

Former Arsenal captain Thierry Henry launched a scathing attack on Ghana and Crystal Palace striker Jordan Ayew following his shocking miss against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Monday.

With the game at 1-0, Ayew was presented a golden opportunity to score his first goal of the season when he came one-on-one with Brighton goalkeeper. However, the Ghanaian sent his strike narrowly wide to the surprise of everyone at the Selhurst Park.

Deep in additional time, Brighton stunned Palace as they made them pay for the missed chance. Striker Maupay got the equaliser with relatively the last kick of the game.

And Henry, who scored 175 Premier League goals during his time, believes the Ghana international should’ve passed the ball to Benteke if he realised he cannot put it at the back of the net.

“That’s the better option for Jordan Ayew to score,” said the former French international.

“You score, I come and celebrate with you – we do some somersault or whatever you want, we slide on our knees.

“If you don’t score, I would have killed you. Give me the ball….that is a sure goal.

“In that position, I’m thinking Benteke. This is where, in the Premier League, that’s a 2-0. Yes, he could have scored. But what about this [passing to Benteke], that’s 2-0 and we’re not talking anymore,” Henry added.

Ayew, according to his manager Patrick Vieira is lacking confidence in front of goal. The Ghanaian has scored only one goal in almost forty games.

Amid his troubles at the club level, new Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has named him in Ghana’s squad for the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers double-header against Zimbabwe on October 5 and October 9 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium and Harare Sports Stadium respectively.

Mortagbe explains why Hearts will not miss Afutu & Awako against WAC of Morocco in Caf Champions League

The Phobians former chief has ruled out any real threat that the players absence could create as they prepare to face the North African club

Hearts of Oak former managing director Neil Armstrong Mortagbe insists the absence of midfielders Gladson Awako and Benjamin Afutu will not have any adverse effect on the club ahead of their cliffhanger encounter against Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco in the Caf Champions League.

The Phobians are hoping to qualify to the group stage of the competition for the first time in several years but head coach Samuel Boadu will have to do it without the duo due to reasons beyond his control.

Awako is battling with illness and has been out of the team for almost a month while Afutu rejected a contract extension proposal made by the club. He is currently in Egypt to broker a deal with a top-flight side according to reports in the local media.

The Phobians defeated Guinean side CI Kamsar in the preliminary round and will host WAC at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 22 before they travel to Morocco for the reverse fixture.

“Gladson Awako will be a very good addition to any clubs in Ghana and Afutu proved to be very key part of our success story last season but as a person who has been in football for several years, I always say that you need to make the best or the most of what you have and so usually I don’t look at what we don’t have,” Mortagbe told GL Radio in China.

“I look at what do we have, who do you have and how do we sum up the courage and energy of those that we have to achieve the results that we want to achieve.

“When Messi left Barcelona they started all over and everybody was waiting for Ansu Fati to get back. He comes in and quickly he scores and it goes on to show that in the absence of Afutu, a player like Salim comes and he is fitting in the squad very smoothly.

“It is about the coach to work with what we have. Without them Hearts defeated Kamsar so I don’t see why the confidence level that the team has today will not push them to have a good game against Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco,” he added.

Hearts won the competition in 2000 and has since failed to make a meaningful impact since then.

I won’t be surprised Konadu & Otto Addo take Ghana job permanently in future, says Mortagbe

The Phobians former chief believes the two coaches appointed to take up the assistant roles at the Black Stars on short term could become permanent

Former chief executive officer of Hearts of Oak Neil Armstrong Mortagbe says he is hoping Ghana Football Association will work around the clock to make the appointment of the two part-time assistant coaches for the Black Stars permanent in future.

Following the return of Milovan Rajevac as Ghana coach, Legon Cities coach Maxwell Konadu and Borrusia Dortmund assistant coach Otto Addo were announced as his assistants. Interestingly, the duo will not be handling the position on a permanent base but combine it with their roles at club.

And Armstrong believes that shouldn’t be the case since it may affect the progress of the Black Stars who are hoping to qualify to play in 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar.

“I was a bit surprised that we were taking coaches on a part-time basis,” Armstrong told GL Radio online.

“This would be a question of how much time do they spend on the other job. How much time will they be expected to stay on the Ghana job, I mean the Black Stars job?

“We have a team that is called from time to time to come and play. How many games do we play in a full year when football is active and not active.

“How much time commitment do we need from them for the work that they will do for Black Stars. The two part-time coaches have top good quality, like Maxwell as a coach and also as a former player same as Otoo Addo.

“I’m sure that the entities with whom who they are currently working with would have been consulted about their availability to the job of the national team and then with due considerations that may have been formed the decision of the FA to appoint these two coaches as a part-time coach.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if in the few months we will hear that they are going off the job they are currently doing and getting to full time focused on the job of the national team because as much as possible we need a main focus to be able to qualify to the World Cup and do well at the African Cup and win the trophy,” he added

Ghana, who are second with three points in Group C, will host Zimbabwe in the World Cup qualifiers on October 5 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium before they travel to Harare for the reverse fixture four days later.

Coker reveals why Manhyia Palace is unhappy with Nana Yaw Amponsah & containers at Adako Jachie

The royal family member and former management member of the Porcupine Warriors has revealed that the club’s owners are not happy with the current state of affairs

Former Asante Kotoko General manager Nana Gyambibi Coker has revealed that Otumfou Osei Tutu and Manhyia Palace are not happy with how the club is being run.

According to Coker on Ashh FM, the current leadership have veered from the laid down templates given to them to follow.

Kotoko started a project under Dr. K.K Sarpong but a new project altogether has been started under Nana Yaw Amponsah.

“Manhyia is angry because the club is putting up a temporary structure instead of a lasting one,” Coker said.

“Manhyia Palace wanted the current leadership to continue the project started years ago and not containers. The containers are temporal projects and it is not going to serve a long term purpose,” he added.

In October 2020, businessman Nana K. Gyasi said he was ready to assist the club so that they can continue with the project started under Dr. Kofi Kodua Sarpong. However, the temporal project was started and that halted all his plans.

“I’m ready to support the Adako Jachie project financially If they contact me. Kotoko is an asset for the Ashanti kingdom,” he told Hello FM.

“I have worked there before, but currently I am engaged. But I’m ready to offer them a sponsorship if they contact me.

The astute businessman also proposed that the Ghanaian giants can hold dinner and invite prominent people to raise funds for other projects.

“In Congo, most of the clubs have put up some projects through monies raised during organised conferences and dinners within the club’s vicinity.

“I think Kotoko can also Despiteze something like that to raise funds for many projects.

“Kwame Kyei is doing well. The likes of Osei Kwame ‘Despite’ and Kessben did well during their era and I know if we organise a dinner and invite them, they will help a lot,” he added.

Coker also added that the VEO which the technical team uses to assess players is useless.

“The VEO is useless.” Coker said.

“What is the importance of the VEO?Can you tell me?

“We heard a lot of noise about it on radio for a while and since that time we have not heard anything about it again.

“By the way this is something for the technical team to use and so you do not have to even make such noise about it like they did” Coker added.

Kotoko management & board of directors ‘clash’ over departure of Emmanuel Gyamfi & others

The Porcupine Warriors top hierarchy have been slashed into two following recent decision to offload several senior players

Asante Kotoko management and board of directors are not on the same page following the decision to offload deputy captain Emmanuel Gyamfi and several other first team players ahead of the start of 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season.

Gyamfi met the management members led by Nana Yaw Amponsah last week over mutual termination of his contract after new coach Prosper Ogum Narteh insisted that he doesn’t suit his game plan.

The former WAFA coach is believed to have told Gyamfi that he can’t guarantee him enough game time and that he should look elsewhere.

Aside Gyamfi, Abdul Latif Anabila, Emmanuel Sarkodie and Godfred Asiamah have been told to prepare to go on loan.

Also, Kwame Adom Frimpong, Samuel Frimpong, Ibrahim Osman and Habib Mohammed were all part of the list submitted to the board to leave the club.

However, AshesGyamera understand that the board of directors have rejected that mass transfer since they believe it will disstablize the team since Augustine Okrah, Felix Annan and Wahab Adams have already left after their contracts expired.

Few weeks ago, Asante Kotoko skipper Felix Annan, Augustine Okrah, Martin Antwi, Richard Senanu and Wahab Adams left the club following the expiration of their respective contracts.

With Kotoko failing to win a trophy last season, the club has signed eight new players including striker Samuel Appiah, Samuel Boateng, Clinton Opoku, Richmond Lamptey, Maxwell Agyemang, Isaac Oppong, Richard Boadu and Augustine Agyapong.

Last season, Kotoko employed the services of four coaches including Maxwell Konadu, Johnson Smith, Abdulai Gazale and Mariano Baretto but still failed to win the league.

The finished second behind Hearts of Oak and were eliminated from the FA Cup in the quarterfinals.

Kotoko new striker Samuel Boateng reveals Amed Toure as his football idol

The Porcupine Warriors new striker has lifted the lid on the player he looked up to most as a youngster and also shed light on how he has worked his way to the top

Asante Kotoko striker Emmanuel Boateng has revealed that the club’s former forward Amed ‘Simba’ Toure was his Ghana Premier League idol growing up.

Toure joined Kotoko from Kessben FC, now Medeama in 2011, and quickly became a cult hero with an incredible goal scoring records and is considered by many to be the best foreign player to play for Kotoko in the last two decades.

And Boateng, who signed a three-year deal with Kotoko last week, was clearly a big fan of the Burkina Faso international, insisting that he always followed his progress which shaped him into a better person

“I want to be like Amed Toure and even become more powerful than him,” Boateng told Kotoko’s media in his first interview after signing for the club.

“He came to worship Asanteman with his good deeds, everyone accepted him and I want to do the same and even more than what he did for Asanteman.

“For years he has been our best player and the way he played for Asanteman showed how good he was and he always inspired me” he added.

Boateng was influential in Future Star Academy’s impressive performance last season in the lower tier league as he scored 18 goals in 15 games.

With the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season set to commence on October 29, Boateng is expected by a lot of pundits and Kotoko supporters to replicate his last season’s performance in order to help Kotoko win the title.

Ghana FA’s club licensing committee rejects Baba Yara & Accra Sports Stadium; Kotoko & Hearts in trouble

The two most glamorous clubs in the country stand the risk at not playing at their favorite home grounds ahead of the start of the new season

Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak could be playing their home games away from Baba Yara Sports Stadium and Accra Sports Stadium respectively if the two stadiums are not approved by Ghana Football Association’s club licensing committee.

This comes up as a result of decisions that were taken by the club licensing committee after a visit by the club licensing manager on where all the 18 Premier League clubs will be playing their home games.

Kotoko, after adopting Accra Sports Stadium and Len Clay Sports Stadium in Obuasi last season, decided to return to Baba Yara after the renovation works were complete. However, according to the club licensing committee, there are a lot of works that need to be done before the venue could be approved.

This means that King Faisal also risk at missing out on the chance to play in Kumasi since they also chose Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Also, Hearts of Oak, Accra Lions and Great Olympics must hope that the club licensing committee will later approve the Accra Sports Stadium or else they will have to look for a new venue.

Only four venues have been approved so far and they include Red Bull Park in Sogakope which hosts West African Academy Football, Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale where RTU will be playing as well as Cape Coast Sports Stadium and Len Clay Sports Stadium.

Full report from Club Licensing Board

The club licensing committee has given authorities in charge of each venues that is yet to be approved up until October 18, 2021 to make corrections before they begin their security and checks.

The 2020/21 Ghana Premier League is scheduled to kick off on October 29 and the Super Clash between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko is billed for Matchday seven at the Accra Sports Stadium.
