Bechem United re-sign club legend Augustine Okrah from Asante Kotoko

The forward has rejoined the Hunters in a short deal ahead of the start of the new season

Bechem United have confirmed they have agreed and signed a one-year deal with Augustine Okrah from Asante Kotoko as a free agent.

The 28-year-old opted not to extend his stay at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium following the expiration of his contract in July.

Although, Okrah was hugely linked with a move to Raja Casablanca and even passed his medical, the deal fell through at the eleventh hour due to issues about his earnings.

Reports emerged that another Moroccan club rushed in to sign him on the their transfer deadline day but the forward was bent on returning to Ghana.

Okrahโ€™s agent Francis Addai was offered an opportunity to send him to Ethiopia but the player insisted on rejoining Bechem United since they offer him the siren environment he needs at this time.

Last season, Okrah scored one goal for Kotoko against Legon Cities in the Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium and provided three assists.

Okrah won Ghana Premier League Best Player and topscorer in the 2013/14 season after scoring 16 goals for Bechem.

He has previously had stints with BK Hacken in Sweden, Al Merriekh and Al Hilal in Sudan as well as Smouha FC in Egypt.

Okrah was part of the Ghana squad that finished second in the WAFU Cup of Nations in 2020.

MILOVAN PART 2 – WHY GHANAIANS EXPECT A LOT OF POSITIVES?

By: Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe

Ever since the appointment of Milovan Rajevac as Head Coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, there have been several commentaries shared, with diverse perspectives: Some have opined that Coach ‘Milo’ would successfully boost the prospects of the team to perform; there are others who have been skeptical of his second coming.

Irrespective of the side of this divide on which one stands, one thing is certainโ€ฆ..GHANA EXPECTS COACH MILOVAN RAJEVAC TO DELIVER!

As the nation looks forward to seeing how the Black Stars start life in what I have christened ‘Milovan Part 2’, I believe that if Coach Milo can exhibit a number of qualities and features I shall highlight in this piece, Ghana stands a very good chance of returning to our glory days.

Lo and behold, the Black Stars dispatched Zimbabwe 3-1 in his first game on Saturday in Cape Coast thanks to goals from Kudus Mohammed, Thomas Partey and Andre Ayew.

I have drawn on the letters of Coach Rajevac’s first name, MILOVAN, to highlight these qualities and features.

M- Mastery in Management

Given the extremely high expectations of Ghanaians, coupled with the structure of the team and players Coach Milo is working with, he would have to display mastery of the art and science of Management. With so much riding on this qualifying campaign, so many divergent perspectives would be shared with Coach Milo.

These perspectives would come from his players, the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the media and the general Ghanaian populace. Milo’s ability to manage all of these will be surely tested and if he succeeds in this area, it would create a conducive environment for progress.

I – Inspiration

It goes without saying that the listless showing by the Black Stars in their recent outings led to a lack of belief in the team. Milo’s reengagement is expected to ignite a new spirit in the team and he must bring an inspiring spark to the mix and get both the team and Ghanaians, in general, invigorated for success.

L – Leadership

As Head Coach, Rajevac’s leadership qualities and abilities are going to be severely tested. A nation hungry for silverware after several near misses over a period of almost four decades is not an easy one to lead to desperately desired success. Coach Milo would have to show astute leadership to navigate waters that could get turbulent from time to time.

O – Openness

With a population bursting with millions of ‘Coaches’ and an unparalleled level of anxiety about the fortunes of the Black Stars, every move by Coach Milo is going to be subjected to intense scrutiny. He’s going to be questioned on his call ups, tactics, his demeanorโ€ฆ.. virtually everything!! What pressure!!

An open heart policy could go a long way to diffusing any potentially negative energies that might arise as Milo goes about his work.

Whilst the buck must stop with Coach Milo, his ability to be open to suggestions and to respect the opinions of others whilst pursuing his strategy for success would stand him in good stead to get the needed cooperation from the leadership of the Ghana Football Association and all stakeholders of Ghana Football.

V – Vision

Vision, I read somewhere, is the ‘blueprint of success’.

The GFA has the vision of taking Ghana Football to the summit of African Football whilst rising to the higher echelons of World Football. Coach Milo must quickly tap into this Vision and use this Vision to energize his team.

A – Action-oriented

Coach Milo has to be action-oriented and decisive in his approach. Difficult decisions might have to be taken, some with the potential to bruise huge egos. But no ego can outweigh the desire of Ghanaians to see trophies won by the Black Stars as well as getting Ghana back to its exalted place in World Football.

Bold actions, when necessary, must be taken by Coach Milo, if we are to see a quick return to our glory days!

N – Nirvana

A general English description of Nirvana is an “ideal or peaceful state or place”.

I rely on this description in the context of this piece.

Ghanaians yearn to see the Black Stars of Ghana return to the place of glory that we once occupied.
That place that saw us winning the African Cup of Nations for a fourth time as far back as 1982!!

That place that saw us, under this same Milovan Rajevac, come inches away from becoming the first African country to reach the semifinals of the FIFA Men’s World Cup!!

Indeed, Ghanaians are looking forward to seeing Milovan Rajevac setting us on the path back to GLORY!!

GHANA EXPECTS!!
MILOVAN AND THE TROOPS, OVER TO YOU!!

Highlights: How Tyson Fury punished Deontay Wilder to defend World Heavyweight title

The third and final bout to settle the rivalry was held on Sunday in Las Vegas and Deontay Wilder couldn’t stand the test of time once again

Tyson Fury had to make a three-time attempt with the most dangerous man in heavyweight boxing, and the last outing proved to be the most legendary, which will obviously put the rivalry between the two to bed

Tyson Fury knocked out Deontay Wilder in the eleventh round to win the world title and put doubters shut in the early hours of Sunday in Las Vegas.

In a fight where both boxers knocked each other down multiple times before the winner was eventually found, those who paid to watch live from the arena and others who stayed up till catch a glimpse of it on their television set have attested to it that they never wasted their money and time.

Although, Wilder came into the bout with a calculated aggression, he surprisingly hit the deck in the third round and looked certain for another early defeat but held on to push the bout farther than expected.

Fury after a good start also lost his mojo midway and had to taste the canvas; dropping twice in the fourth round as the American found a home for that right hand that has ended so many fights.

However, just like he did in their epic first go-around staged in 2018, Fury got up and was able to assert himself in the fight later.

Wilder looked gassed, but always one punch away from flipping the script. The hard-hitting former champion of the world ate right hand after right hand from Fury, and answered with his own bombs, before it eventually became too much.

Fury sent Wilder crashing back to the canvas in the 10th round.

But that wasnโ€™t the end, as Wilder, who wanted to go out on his shield in the sequel, somehow got back to his feet.

No, the end came in the 11th as a looping Fury right hand with Wilder against the ropes saw the tall American timber finally topple as referee Russell Mora waved off the fight.

Fury was ahead on the scorecards 95-91 x 2, 94-92.

The two heavyweights fought to a bruising draw in their first fight in Los Angeles in 2018, when Fury came back from the dead.

Fury then defeated Wilder in February last year via a seventh-round knockout that ended Wilderโ€™s five-year reign as WBC champion.

Milovan Rajevac satisfied with Ghana’s performance against Zimbabwe

The Serbian was elated with his players performance against the Warriors on Saturday but believes they can still do more

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac is satisfied with the Black Starsโ€™ performance in their 3-1 victory over Zimbabwe in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Saturday.

A goal each from Kudus Mohammed, Thomas Partey and Andre Ayew made sure that Milovan started his second spell in charge of the Black Stars on a winning note.

The win ensured that the Black Stars have closed in on South Africa and only trail them by just a point with two games remaining.

โ€œToday, we showed our attacking force but sometimes it is not easy. You saw it partially in this World Cup qualifying match but in the end, everything was okay and we are satisfied with the effort and results,โ€ Milovan said after the game.

The 65-year-old also rejected suggestions that he is a coach who rely on only one goal project to grind results.

โ€œI said in a press conference that it was just some mantra from the journalists,” he said.

“But as you can see some others also say I’m also the type of defensive coach but if you look at the first eleven and how much we wanted to score we could have scored even three or more goals.

“And of course, we conceded one but we are always trying to do our best and to try to score more goals by the end,” he added.

Ghana will travel to Harare for the return fixture on Tuesday and a win is imminent in order to keep the chase with South Africa for the only slot available in the group.

Milovan Rajevac heaps praise on new Ghana goalkeeper Wollacot; explains why he should be first choice

The Black Stars coach has lauded the qualities of the new goalkeeper following his maiden appearance against the Warriors on Saturday

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has heaped praise on new Black Stars goalkeeper Joseph ‘Jojo’ Wollacot following his impressive debut in the 3-1 victory against Zimbabwe in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was handed a surprise starting role ahead of Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Hearts goalkeeper Richard Attah and Asante Kotoko youngster Danlad Ibrahim after first-choice goalkeeper Richard Ofori was ruled out due to injury concerns.

Although, Wollacot conceded a goal from a spot kick, he made some incredible saves and organised the defence very well and Milovan has insisted that he deserved the chance given him.

โ€œIt’s all about good scouting. Since he arrived in camp, he proved himself at the training sessions and everyone was impressed,” Milovan Rajevac told reporters after the game.

โ€œHe did very well against Zimbabwe and deserves the chance [to always start for Ghana]. I was satisfied with his performance in today’s game. I don’t want to praise him much but he did a good job for the team,” he added.

Wallocott opted to sign for English lower division side Swindon Town from Championship aide Bristol City last season in order to get more playing time.

This season, the shot-stopper has played ten games and kept four clean sheets as well as conceded eights goals in the process as Swindon Town sit third on the League 2 table.

Wollacot is expected to maintain his place in the Ghana squad when they play Zimbabwe in the return fixture in Harare on Tuesday. South Africa lead Ghana one point in Group G as they have seven points.

They will also host Ethiopia at the Soccer City Sports Stadium in Johannesburg on Tuesday as they hope to complete a double over them.

Two people arrested for selling fake tickets during Ghana vs Zimbabwe

The duo, who are believed to be in their late twenties, were grabbed by the police on Saturday at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium

Two gentlemen were arrested by Ghana Police Service for printing fake tickets when Black defeated Zimbabwe 3-1 in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Saturday.

The duo were selling the fake tickets together with the ones printed by National Sports Authority but luck eluded them.

Following their arrest, they told the police that the tickets were given to them at the Black Stars hotel by some unnamed people and investigations are currently ongoing.

After the break, Zimbabwe restored parity by the 49th minute through Knowledge Musonda. The Al Tai striker sent goalkeeper Joe Wollacott to the wrong side from the penalty spot.

However, Ghana restored their lead by the 66th minute through Thomas Partey. The Arsenal midfielder sent in a fine finish to break down the bulwark defence of the visitors.

Andre Ayew added another goal by the 87th minute to end all hopes by Zimbabwe to stage a late comeback in the game.

Ghana will now travel to Harare on Sunday evening for the return fixture scheduled for Tuesday.

In the other group game, South Africa secured a 2-1 away win over Ethiopia in Addis Ababa earlier today. They now have seven points and Ghana have six points

Ghana 3-1 Zimbabwe: Kudus, Partey & Ayew restore Black Stars hopes to qualify to 2022 Fifa World Cup

The Black Stars breathed life back into their chances of qualifying to the World Cup holding next year with a home victory over the Warriors on Saturday

Ghana defeated Zimbabwe 3-1 in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Saturday to close the gap between them and South Africa.

The Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac named Steadfast FC youngster Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and English fourth-tier goalkeeper Joe Wollacot in the squad to play his first game as he marked his return to the job that he left behind in 2010.

Ghana began the game with a 4-2-3-1 formation as Wollacot started ahead of Switzerland based goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi while the defensive set up was made up of Daniel Amartey on the right wing back while Baba Rahman was on the left wing back position.

Alexander Djiku and Jonathan Mensah were paired in central defence while Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey took over the defensive holding role. Youngster Kamaldeen Sulemana Issahaku, Kudus Mohammed and Jordan Ayew made up the offensive midfield department with captain Andre Ayew leading the attack.

Ghana made their intentions to win the day clear right from the blast of the whistle.

Kudus sent the Black Stars in front by the fifth minute with a wonderful finish after he combined with Jordan Ayew. The Crystal Palace striker who has come under a lot of criticisms set up Kudus and the Ajax midfielder calmly slotted in his finish beyond the reach of Zimbabwe goalkeeper.

Ayew had scored four goals in his last four games for Al Sadd before arriving in Ghana and this goal against Zimbabwe means that he has scored five goals in five games for club and country.

Ghana will now travel to Harare on Sunday evening for the return fixture scheduled for Tuesday.

In the other group game, South Africa secured a 2-1 away win over Ethiopia in Addis Ababa earlier today. They now have seven points and Ghana have six points
