Ghanaians descend on NSA after forcing Hearts of Oak, Olympics & others out of Accra Sports Stadium only to rent it to Stonebwoy & Davido

The supervisors of the national stadium advised Premier League clubs to look elsewhere to host their games since there is going to be renovations only to rent the venue to musicians for concert

A large section of Ghanaians have heavily descended on National Sports Authority after they asked Premier League champions Hearts of Oak, Great Olympics as well as Legon Cities to move out of the Accra Sports Stadium since there are going to be renovation works at the facility.

However, it has emerged that was not the case as a video circulating on social media has revealed that there is going to be a concert dubbed GT Music Concert at the stadium on Friday, December 17.

Headlined by Ghana’s dancehall artist Stonebwoy and Nigerian superstar Davido, the show is expected to have more than 30,000 people as it is relatively free.

Other artists expected to perform on the night include Highlife sensation Kofi Kinaata, Kuame Eugene, Adina, R2Bees, Zlatan (Nigeria), Wande Coal, Gyakie and Tems.

Hearts of Oak are expected to play their next two home games at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium while Legon Cities head to El Wak Sports Stadium.

Legon’s first home game at El Wak looks likely to be against Asante Kotoko on Sunday.

Asante Kotoko fans raise RED FLAGS on poor state of El Wak stadium ahead of Legon Cities clash

A section of the Porcupine Warriors supporters have raised concerns about the poor state of the El Wak facility ahead of the weekend gane against Legon Cities

Following National Sports Authority’s decision to close down Accra Sports Stadium, clubs who play their Ghana Premier League home games there have been asked to use their alternative home ground.

As a result, Hearts of Oak, Great Olympics and Legon Cities have been forced to relocate ahead of the weekend’s games.

Legon will host Kotoko at the El Wak Sports Stadium on Sunday in a matchday nine fixture but the facility looks not in good shape especially the stands that will accommodate the supporters.

The wood used in making the benches look rotten with some of them even broken.

As a result, concerns have been raised about the safety of those who will throng to the venue.

Arsenal star Frimpong explains why he chose to play for Ghana over England

The former midfielder turned down an invitation to represent the Three Lions at a point and chose to represent the country of his parents which he has explained why he took that decision after several deliberations

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has insisted that it was a dream come through after representing Ghana at the international stage.

The box-to-box midfielder rose through the ranks of England’s youth national teams and even captained the U-17 side at a point.

However, he switched nationality to represent the country of his parents and although he played just a game for the Black Stars, Frimpong believes it was the best of decisions since he always dreamt of wearing the Black Stars jersey.

“I follow my passion. I don’t follow the money too much,” Frimpong told GTV Sports+ in an interview.

“Obviously, playing for England, you get more money and more exposure but for me, as I said, I have always had a dream. I remember when I was young, I used to watch Abedi Pele and Tony Yeboah when I was very young.

“So, I have always had a passion for playing for Ghana. And, you know sometimes in life people make decisions that you from the outside you might not understand but for me, its one of the best feelings.

“Playing in Kumasi, playing for my family, and putting the Ghana shirt on are some of the best feelings that I’ve ever had in my career. Maybe, if I had played for England, who knows maybe things would have turned for the better but then again you know you always have to follow what you want to do,” he added.

Frimpong, whose career was cut short due to injury concerns, has relocated to Ghana after hanging his boots.

Former Arsenal midfielder relocates to Ghana after retirement

The Gunners former midfielder has revealed that he has been staying in Ghana since 2017 as he feels comfortable at home

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has revealed that he has relocated to Ghana following his decision to retire from football.

The 31-year-old who rose through the ranks of England youth national teams prematurely ended his career due to injury concerns.

Although, he holds British passport and has some of his family members in England, he has opted to relocate to Africa to be closer to his extended family.

“I’ve been living in Ghana permanently since 2017,” Frimpong told GTV Sports + in an interview.

“I’ve always had the idea of coming back to live in Ghana. I’ve always had a love for Ghana and I have always wanted to settle in Ghana with my family and my wife and that’s what I’m doing.

“Obviously, for my whole life, I have been playing football, and it’s been that kind of difficult and stuff like that. There is no better time than now in terms of spending time with the family. And, I have been enjoying that,” he added.

Although, Frimpong played several matches with England’s under-16 and U-17 sides, he later switched nationality to represent Ghana at the senior level.

In 2009, Frimpong said, “No matter what, I will always play for Ghana because at the end of the day, from what I believe, I am a Ghanaian.”

In February 2011, Frimpong said, “I have always told my family that if Ghana calls me, I will personally ride my own bicycle from England to Ghana [to play for the Black Stars].”

In March 2013, Frimpong made his bow for Ghana during a 2014 World Cup qualifying match against Sudan.

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu extols Fabio Gama & others at Akwasidae festival

The Brazilian had the opportunity to experience the rich Asante culture and drew praise from the paramount chief in the process

Asante Kotoko midfielder Fabio Gama was part of a host of dignitaries who participated in 2021 edition of Akwasidae which took place at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Sunday.

The Brazilian joined Kotoko last season as a free agent and has since become an instant hit despite the club failing to win any major trophy.

With Kotoko’s matchday seven fixture in Ghana Premier League against Hearts of Oak suspended due to the latter’s participation in Caf Confederation Cup, Gama was selected as part of the club’s delegates to participate in the festival.

Others included head coach Prosper Ogum Narteh, midfielder Isaac Oppong and captain Abdul Ganiu Ismail as well as director of communications David Obeng Nyarko.

Gama, just like his teammates present, were mobbed by some supporters after the event as they wanted autographs while others only wanted to snap pictures with them.

According to sources close to the club, Otumfuo was impressed with Kotoko’s performance this season and particularly heaped praise on Gama.

He further urged the coach and players to double their efforts in order to achieve their set goals at the end of the season.

Kotoko currently sit third on the Ghana Premier League log with 13 points, three points behind city rivals King Faisal. They will welcome Real Tamale United to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

King Faisal 1-0 Elmina Sharks: Osman Ibrahim’s goal sends Inshallah Boys to top of GPL log

The Inshallah Boys have leapfrogged Aduana Stars and their city rivals to take custody of the first position for the first time this season

King Faisal defeated Elmina Sharks 1-0 on matchday seven of Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.

After a heated early exchanges where chances became premium for both sides, it was Faisal who had the first shot on goal through Zubairu Ibrahim by the tenth minute.

Faisal finally had their tails in front after Osman Ibrahim shot them ahead in the game by the 27th minute after a nice build up.

After the break, Sharks threatened Faisal’s goalkeeper Frank Boateng when Nii Tetteh and Samuel Arthur combined to set up Michelle Sarpong but his last ditch effort was saved.

On the 58th minute, Faisal thought they had doubled their lead after Mawuko Wayo rounded goalkeeper Lord Martey but he was later ruled offside.

Three minutes later, Wadudu Yakubu saw his long range shot saved by Martey as Faisal kept on pressing for another goal.

Enoch Aglenyo was presented with the best of opportunities in the half for Sharks to equalise but the striker surprisingly fluffed the chance.

Sharks finally had the ball at the back of the net on the 86th minute after Justice Mensah’s effort beat goalkeeper Boateng. However, referee Ben Kwame Sefah insisted that there was a foul in the build up on the goalkeeper.

Faisal have now moved top of the log with 16 points, two points above Aduana Stars who also defeated Great Olympics on Saturday.

After overcoming an injury spell, Arnaud Djoum has bounced back as one among eight midfielders. 13 forwrads have been shortlisted, an act that highlights the Portuguese gaffer’s goal-scoring ambitions.

The technical staff will reduce the squad to 28 before the tournament gets underway.

Boxing: Ghana’s Richard Commey beaten by Ukrainian Loma in World title challenge

The Ghanaian’s ambition to win a world title and raise the flag of Ghana high before the end of 2021 could not become a reality

Loma dropped Commey in the seventh round and didn’t let up in securing the pivotal win before turning his attention to a possible crack at new unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr.

Vasiliy Lomachenko dropped Richard Commey with a thud courtesy of a devastating left hook across the chin during the seventh round.

In a flash, he looked over to Commey’s corner and implored them to stop the fight. They didn’t and Lomachenko kept bringing the pain, lasering and connecting on more clean punches Commey’s way.

Again, Loma asked that Commey’s corner end the fight. They refused.

Commey survived the round but was thoroughly outboxed as Lomachenko cruised to a dominating unanimous decision victory at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Saturday night. Judges scored it 119-108, 119-108 and 117-110 all in favor of the Ukrainian. DAZN News had it 119-108 for Lomachenko.

“I saw his situation,” Lomachenko told ESPN following the bout. “It was very hard for him. That’s why I said ‘stop the fight.'”

The 33-year-old Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) didn’t get the stoppage but demoralized Commey with clean punching and connected on a whopping 58 percent of his power shots as well. Lomachenko’s superior hand speed and footwork were on display the entire fight as he was always a step ahead to sting Commey with precise punching and spin him around to stifle him further as part of the overall boxing clinic.

The seventh round knockdown was the punctuation in yet another brilliant performance from the former world champion, who went 2-0 this year after losing by unanimous decision to Teofimo Lopez back in October 2020.

When asked about a possible crack at new unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr., Lomachenko jumped at the idea.

“I need this chance,” he said. “If God gives me this chance, I’ll take it.”

And that would include traveling to the champ’s native Australia to scrap it out if need be.

“I’ll go anywhere I need to fight him.”

Kambosos was watching, as he took the time to salute Lomachenko on the win before reminding him that he defeated Lopez two weeks ago and that Loma couldn’t.

Here’s how the entire Lomachenko-Commey main card went.

Aduana Stars 1-0 Great Olympics: Bright Agyei’s goal sends Ogya Boys top of the log ahead of Kotoko

The Ogya Boys have gone top of the league log for the first time this season despite a slow start to the campaign

Aduana Stars defeated Great Olympics 1-0 on matchday seven of Ghana Premier League at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park in Dormaa Ahenkro on Saturday.

After failing to pick a win in their opening two games, including a shocking defeat at home against King Faisal, Aduana have since returned to winning ways.

Aduana coach Joseph Asare Bediako maintained the squad that defeated WAFA last weekend with Bright Agyei and Emmanuel Gyamfi leading the pack.

After three minutes, Aduana went ahead thanks to Agyei’s goal. The forward headed in a powerful cross from Abass Mohammed.

Gyamfi came close to double the lead ten minutes later but his shot was blocked.

After the break, Great Olympics had several half chances but their forwards failed to make it count.

Aduana have now leapfrog Asante Kotoko to top the log with 14 points, one point above the Porcupine Warriors.

Kotoko’s game against Hearts of Oak have been postponed due to the latter’s participation in Caf Confederation Cup.
