The Wonders striker made a name for himself as his precious goals handed his side their second three points in the campaign
On Saturday, Techiman was blazing with merry making. Well, it wasn’t Christmas nor New Year celebrations but two goals rained and it brought along good memories.
After five games in the Ghana Premier League, Eleven Wonders were still struggling to find their second win in the league but luck smiled at them on their sixth attempt in front of their vociferous supporters.
A brace from Abdul Zakaria Mugeese was all what Wonders and the people of Techiman needed as they went on to defeat Karela United 2-0 at the Nana Ameyaw Park.
Apart from the all-important victory, Mugeese’s second goal scored by thr 72nd minute became the 100th goal of the season.
Elsewhere in Berekum, Aduana Stars became the first club to score a goal against Berekum Chelsea. Prior to this game, goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim had gone 450 minutes without conceding but a shot from Asante Yeboah Pius ended his impressive run between the sticks.
In Kumasi, King Faisal once again struggled to protect their lead and in the end, failed to record their first victory of the season. The Green and Whites shared the spoils 1-1 with Elmina Sharks after Kwame Peprah’s opener was cancelled out by Alhaji Mustapha.
Medeama recorded their third home win on the bounce when a goal from the spot by Prince Opoku Agyemang handed them a 1-0 win over Ashanti Gold in Tarkwa. The defeat was the second in a row for the visitors as they were stunned at home last week.
Meanwhile, Great Olympics moved up the ladder with a 1-0 victory at home over Inter Allies. Interestingly, the goal was scored from an unlikely source as Philip Nii Sackey slotted in his first-ever league goal.
With two games left, one to be played on Sunday between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, 102 goals have been recorded in 52 games.
