Radio Sports Journalist Attacked After On-Air Comments Supporting LGBTQ+ Rights

The media practitioner nearly lost his life after he was attacked by irate people who were unimpressed with his comments perceived to be supporting LGBTQ+ in Ghana

Seth Yaw Adjei, a radio presenter at Success FM in Goaso, is recovering from a violent assault believed to be linked to his recent on-air comments advocating for the fair treatment of LGBTQ+ individuals in sports.

During a broadcast on his sports program, Seth Yaw Adjei noted that many athletes may belong to the LGBTQ+ community but often conceal their identities due to societal stigma.

He emphasized the need to treat everyone with dignity and respect and condemned harassment and the use of derogatory language.

Shortly after the broadcast, Seth began receiving threatening text messages from individuals claiming to be part of an anti-gay group.

The threats included explicit warnings of death and threats to set fire to the FM station.

A few days later, he was physically attacked in what he believed was a targeted assault.

He was rescued by bystanders, lost consciousness during the incident, and was taken to the Goaso Government Hospital for emergency medical care.

The incident has sparked outrage among media freedom and human rights advocates, who are calling for swift police action and greater protection for journalists speaking on controversial social issues.

Speaking in an interview, the General Manager of Success FM, Asafo-Agyei Davidson, strongly condemned the attack on Seth Yaw Adjei.

He expressed deep concern for Seth’s safety, recalling that similar threats were made against King George Abanga, Seth’s colleague, who was tragically attacked and killed in 2015.

“I am deeply worried about Seth’s life. This incident brings back painful memories of King George Abanga, his colleague, who received similar threats and was later attacked and killed in 2015. We cannot allow history to repeat itself.”

Mr. Davidson urged the police in the area to step up security measures, particularly for journalists, to ensure that such unfortunate incidents do not happen again.

AshesGyamera.com understands that some of the aggrieved locals marched to Yaw’s house to demonstrate against what they believe to be a deliberate attempt to project the LGBTQ community.

Ghana Police boss exposes GFA: “No investigations have been done on AshGold vs Inter Allies match fixing scandal”

The law enforcing agency’s boss has denied any measures taken by them or Ghana FA to bring perpetrators to book after the shameful match fixing scandal last season

Ghana Police’s CID boss Ken Yeboah has denied reports that there are ongoing investigations to punish perpetrators in the alleged Ghana Premier League match fixing scandal involving Ashanti Gold and Inter Allies.

Last season, Ashanti Gold hammered Allies 7-0 at the Len Clay Sports in Obuasi on July 17, 2021. After the game, reports were rife that a match of convenience was played especially since some of the goals were scored in a bizarre manner.

Allies captain Hashmin Musa who score two own goals confirmed that there predetermined scoreline of 5-0 and he intentionally scored two own goals to spoil it.

Ghana FA quickly released a statement that investigations are underway and those found guilty will be punished severely.

“Ashanti Gold SC and Inter Allies FC have both been charged by the GFA Prosecutor on counts of misconduct for match manipulation in their 2020-21 Ghana Premier League week 34 match played at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on July 17, 2021,” the Ghana FA stated on its official website on Friday, September 17, 2021.

“After investigations into the acts of misconduct, the GFA Prosecutor charged Ashanti Gold SC on three counts of misconduct for breaching Article 34(5)(a), Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019, Article 18(1) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019.

“Inter Allies FC have also been charged on two counts of misconduct for breaching Article 34(5)(a) and Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019.

“Both clubs are expected to submit their Statements of Defence to the charges on or before Wednesday, September 22 after which the GFA Disciplinary Committee will adjudicate their cases respectively. Some players and officials of both clubs have also been charged,” the statement added.

However, according to CID boss Ken Yeboah in an interview with Angel FM Sports, no investigation has been done on the matter.

“The GFA only came to our HQ to report on an alleged match fixing in their league. “We told them we are ready to pick it up since it’s a criminal offence in their regulations but we asked that they write an official statement detailing clubs involved etc. They told us they’ll come back with the statement,” Yeboah began.

“We never heard from them again till today. We had been waiting to hear from them since they left our office after the verbal complaint. All we heard was that they had started another league season. They didn’t submit any report and there’s no way we could commence investigations,” he added.

Last weekend, there were allegations of match fixing after Eleven Wonders scored three late goals from penalties to defeat Bechem United 3-2 at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman.

Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah reveals readiness to play for Ghana ahead of World Cup

The Gunners forward has admitted that he could switch nationality and represent Ghana at the 2022 Fifa World Cup

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has finally revealed that he could switch nationality to play for Ghana after several attempts by Ghana Football Association.

The 21-year-old was born in England to Ghanaian parents and although he has represented England at youth level, he is still eligible to play for the West African giants through descent.

Ghana’s interim coach Otto Addo and technical advisor Chris Hughton have been combing around the world in search of talents to add to the already existing squad as the Black Stars prepare to partake in the 2022 Fifa World Cup to be staged in Qatar.

The Black Stars have been pitted in Group H alongside Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

“Of course it is a possibility. I’m open to both, playing for Ghana and playing for England as well,” Nketiah told The Beautiful Game podcast when quizzed about joining the Black Stars soon.

“It’s always good to have the opportunity to potentially do that. Both of my parents are from Ghana and I know some of the players like Thomas Partey so it will be cool.

“I’m also happy for them to have qualified to play in the 2022 Fifa World Cup,” he added.

Nketiah, if concluded, will join Denis Odoi and Emmanuel Gyasi as the players who switched nationality recently to play for Ghana.

Chelsea midfielder Callum Hodson-Odoi is also a player Ghana Football Association is keeping tabs on to switch his nationality.

Kwesi Appiah betrayed me ahead of 2019 Afcon- Asamoah Gyan explains why

The Black Stars former skipper has insisted that he felt betrayed after his captain’s armband was taken from him prior to the tournament

Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan says he felt betrayed by former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations held in Egypt.

Prior to the start of the tournament, Gyan was unceremoniously stripped off his captain’s armband and made a general captain.

Andre Ayew was then named as a the new captain and that generated a lot of controversies around the them. As a result, Ghana president Nana Akufo-Addo had to intervene at a point before Gyan was named among the squad for the competition.

And the former Al Ain star believes he wasn’t expecting such a decision from Kwesi Appiah at that crucial moment.

“I felt betrayed [when the captain’s armband was taken from me in 2019],” Gyan told Asaase Radio in an interview.

“So I couldn’t control my emotions. People who know everything behind the scenes, know I was betrayed [by the coach],” he added.

At the tournament, Ghana suffered one of their worst performance as they were eliminated in the round of 16 by Tunisia.

Gyan also failed to score in the tournament for the first time since 2008.

Gyan, who is yet to launch a book about his career, is currently a free agent after mutually parting ways with Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities last year.
