Video: Why Tigers at Wonda World Estate pose no threat – Ghana Wildlife

Officials of the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission say the two tigers belonging to business mogul, Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Freedom Jacob Caesar, pose no threats to the inhabitants of the estate, Citinews have reported.

Some residents at Wonda World Estates, Avenue Lincoln near the British High Commission at Ridge in Accra, had expressed worry over the presence of the two tigers at the estate.

They claimed they are not comfortable sharing the estate with the carnivorous animals and have called on appropriate authorities to relocate them.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media on Friday, May 20, 2022, the Director of Operations at the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission, Luri Kanton, indicated that “the tigers are safe, healthy and well protected and relocation will be done after investigations”.

After visiting the premises of the Wonda World Estate where the tigers are being kept, Mr. Kanton told the media that “a new structure would’ve to be constructed at a new location before the relocation of the animals could be done”.

This he noted, will take about two months.

Meanwhile, Samuel Tiwonitaaba Kuteba, the trainer of the tigers, said the animals have been declawed and are under strict veterinary guidance.

He debunked rumours that the animals were smelly and dangerous to residents.

I bought the 2 tigers to boost tourism in Ghana – Freedom Jacob Caesar

Freedom Jacob Caesar had explained that he brought the animals in a bid to boost Ghana’s tourism.

“First, it is right, I have two tigers that I bought on a bid between Ghana and Dubai. I was the representative from the private sector that initiated my interest in purchasing these two animals. But we did go through the process, the animals are seven months old, still at the very young stage.”

“I went in to buy these animals to add the value of tourism in our country. I wanted to go into the Safari World by making sure that Ghana becomes the first country in the whole of West Africa, East Africa, and Central Africa, except for South Africa, which has these animals.”

Division One League: Nsoatreman, Samatex and Liberty edge closer to Premier League qualification

Ghana Division One League is gradually coming to an end. Nsoatreman FC and Liberty Professionals as well as Samatex look teams to win qualification to Ghana Premier League next season.

In Zone 1, Nsoatreman have taken a three-point lead over Tamale City but the latter have a game at hand against Bofoakwa Tano on Thursday to close in.

Currently, Nsoatreman lead the pack with 59 points with only four games remaining to end the season. In the relegation battle, Mighty Royals have moved away from the drop zone for the first time in almost two months following a 1-0 away win over Berekum Arsenal.

With Kintampo FC sharing the spoils 1-1 against Nkoranza Warriors, the former have now moved into the drop zone. Meanwhile, Unity FC must defeat Bolga All Stars on Thursday to farther move away from the relegation-threatened clubs.

In Zone Three, Liberty Professionals shocked Tema Youth at the Tema Sports Stadium by pipping them 2-1 in front of their vociferous home supporters.

Liberty, after a slow start to the campaign, have now taken a three-point lead as they currently lead the log with 55 points and may keep it as a huge advantage. The Scientific Soccer Lads were relegated from the Top-flight last season.

However, ther is still chance for third-place Heart of Lions to move to closer to second placed Tema Youth when they play as visitors to Accra City Stars. A win for Lions would means that they are only one point behind Tema Youth and four points behind leaders Liberty Professionals.

In the relegation battle, Nania FC defeated Kwaebibirim 1-0 at home and they are now one point below safety.

Following the demotion of Inter Allies due to their match fixing scandal with Ashanti Gold during last season, it is likely only two clubs will be relegated from the zone.

Samatex are just three wins away from being crowned as Zone Two champions despite sharing the spoils goalless at home against Achiken. The Sameraboi-based team lead the log with 58 points, seven points above Ebusua Dwarfs who pipped Holy Stars 1-0 at home.

In the relegation battle, Wassaman United defeated New Edubiase United 3-2 to pill pressure on Hasaacas who could pick only one point away against Pacific Heroes. The Giants of the West are just one point away from the relegation zone.

Black Stars-bound Augustine Okrah wins Man of the Match as Bechem snatch a point against RTU

The winger was adjudged the best performer as the Hunters picked one point in Tamale in mid-week

Augustine Okrah was adjudged the Man of the Match as he inspired Bechem United to pick one point as they shared the spoils 2-2 with Real Tamale United on matchday 29 of Ghana Premier League at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

After putting up an incredible performance over the weekend to help Bechem reach the final of the Fa Cup, Okrah was at his best once again in the Premier League.

Emmanuel Owusu gave Bechem the lead in the game after 21 minutes following a poor defending by RTU.

However, Ronald Frimpong pulled even for the hosts on 32nd minute against the run of play after Okrah nearly doubled Bechem’s lead at the other end few minutes before.

After the break, RTU went ahead through Issah Kuka. The youngster connected a pass from his teammate and perfectly slotted it in beyond the reach of goalkeeper Abdulai Iddrisu.

Interestingly, Bechem broke the hearts of the home fans with a late equalizer deep in additional time. Okrah picked up a pass and sent in a powerful shot which was spilled by the goalkeeper.

Hafiz Konkoni was at the right place at the time and calmly tapped in the rebound.

Bechem are still second on the log with 48 points, eight points behind Asante Kotoko who have a game in hand against Ashanti Gold at the Len Clay Sports Stadium on Thursday.

Okrah now boasts of 13 league goals and six assists as well as six Man of the Match awards after 29 games.

Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah watches Southampton vs Liverpool ahead of business meeting

The Porcupine Warriors chief was in attendance when the Saints welcome Liverpool in the Premier League title decider

Asante Kotoko chief executive officer Nana Yaw Amponsah was at the Saint Mary’s Sports Stadium when Southampton lost 2-1 to Liverpool in the penultimate game of the Premier League campaign.

With Liverpool trailing Manchester City three points before kick off, the Reds were in a dire need of victory to help them challenge Pep Guardiola’s men for the Premier League title. Therefore, they travelled to Southampton with full of hopes close in at the top.

However, Nathan Redmond gave Southampton the lead by the 13th minute after his shot took a wicked deflection on James Milner and went past goalkeeper Elisson Barker.

However, Minamino equalised for Liverpool on the 26th minute from close range after latching on to a pass from Jota.

Liverpool finally went ahead in the game after the break through Joel Matip and held on to win the game.

Any results apart from victory could have dent Liverpool’s title hopes. They are now one point behind Manchester City ahead of the final round of matches slated for this weekend.

Amponsah is expected to meet with Southampton management on how to help the Ghanaian giants develop their youth team as part of the partnership between the two clubs.

“Stake the bet HIGH for me…,” Why Ghana FA has banned Kotoko’s Richmond Lamptey two and half years

The Porcupine Warriors midfielder was found guilty of match fixing while playing for Inter Allies last season

Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey has been banned two and half years due to his knowledge and involvement in match fixing scandal last season.

According to Ghana FA prosecution and statement, Richmond Lamptey revealed during his interrogation that Seth Osei of Ashanti gold SC called him at the entrance of their dressing room and asked him that “haven‟t your elders spoken to you‟.

Later, they learned that Lamptey handed over a white paper to one Nii Noi who was part of the Inter Allies traveling team and notified to him that the match will end with a correct score of 5-1 so he should call the number on the sheet of paper for the person to stake the bet higher for him.
