The nation’s television has opened up why they feel shocked after missing out on the Premier League’s TV rights
Ghana Broadcasting Corporation has revealed that they feel shocked after Chinese television company StarTimes were awarded the rights to cover Ghana Premier League and FA Cup ahead of them despite having a better offer.
On Wednesday, Ghana FA announced that StarTimes will pay $5.25 million to have the rights until 2025 which is $1,050,000 annually something the State-owned company feels cheated.
In a press statement signed by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Dr Mamle Asare, they offered more money than what has been accepted by Ghana FA and feels Ghanaians are on the disadvantage of this move since GBC will not even have the right to telecast highlights or delayed games of the league.
“Ghana Broadcasting Corporation put in a bid which we are certain was superior to what the StarTimes is said to have submitted. As published on the GFA website, StarTimes offered to pay UDS 5,250,000 which comes up to USD 1,050,000 annually whilst GBC made a financial offer of USD 1,100,000 annually,” the statement said.
“It is for this and other reasons that we received the news with disappointment and shock. Apart from GBC’s superior financial offer, we thought that the Premier League and FA Cup content would have been treated like a national treasure and given to the national broadcaster and a consortium of local broadcasters,” the statement said.
“GBC wishes to put it on public record that the national broadcaster and the local TV Consortium have been treated unfairly and unjustly. The GFA decision will gravely impact on Ghanaians’ access to the Ghana Premier League and FA Cup live games on Free-to-Air (FTA) broadcast”.

The midfielder believes three goals scored against the Phobians on Sunday was not enough
Medeama midfielder Kwesi Donsu has insisted that they should have walloped Hearts of Oak despite winning 3-0 in Ghana Premier League matchday two fixture in Tarkwa on Sunday.
Two goals from Prince Opoku-Agyemang and another strike from Nana Nabil pushed the already troubled Phobians into relegation zone having also lost their first game at home to Berekum Chelsea.
“It is good we won 3-0 but I believe we should have scored Hearts of Oak not less than six goals,” Donsu said.
“This is so because looking at the chances we created in the game, we could’ve walloped them if we were more clinical.
“I was very furious on the bench during the first half because we had the believe we could and looking at the training session we had ahead of the season we should have buried them at Akoon Park. When a team scores more goals, it puts fear in opponents that they will face in subsequent games,” he added.
Medeama now top the log on goal difference and will travel to Accra to face Liberty Professionals next weekend while Hearts host Ebusua Dwarfs.

Following King Faisal’s two defeats from two games in Ghana Premier League, AshesGyamera.com can reveal that Serbian coach Slavisa Bozicic has arrived in the country this week and could be unveiled by the club if negotiations end successfully.
The Kumasi-based club suffered a 4-1 thrashing against Dreams FC in Dawu on opening day and also lost the Ashanti derby 1-0 against Ashanti Gold on Sunday leaving them without a point.
Although, club president Alhaji Karim Grunsah wanted either former coach Steve Pollack or Zdravko Lugarusic to replace underfire manager Anthony Commey, none of them is ready to return to Ghana.
Bozicic is expected to be in the dugout on Sunday when Faisal travel to Dormaa Ahenkro to play in-form Aduana Stars in matchday three.
Although, Commey’s future is unknown, our sources have revealed that a section of the club’s top hierarchy are lobbying for him to be demoted to assistant coach role in order to help the Serbian rather then showing him the exit.
Bozicic will play his first home game against Bechem United on January 14 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Phobians are surprisingly without a single point after two games, raising concerns about their preparations
On Friday, Asante Kotoko made a huge statement of winning the league as they silenced Legon Cities FC with a 3-1 win at the Accra Sports Stadium with a brace from Emmanuel Gyamfi and a beautiful lob from Augustine Okrah.
Inter Allies also claimed a 2-1 win against Bechem United at the same venue on Saturday as they recovered from their opening day humiliation in the hands of Aduana Stars.
But Hearts of Oak are in tatters. Of course, since they are without a point after losing their opening two games of the Ghana Premier League.
After a 1-0 defeat at home to Berekum Chelsea, the Phobians were whipped 3-0 by Medeama on Sunday in Matchday 2 thanks to a brace from Prince Opoku and another strike from Nana Kofi Babil.
In Accra, Aduana Stars left it late to defeat Great Olympics 1-0 with the only goal coming from substitute Nathan Kwasi Richard. The visitors have now chalked 100 per cent in their two games and are on course to win their third league trophy.
In the Ashanti derby in Kumasi, Ashanti Gold had the last laugh when they pipped King Faisal 1-0 thanks to Mubarak Yussif’s late free-kick. The Miners have scored full marks and are yet to concede a goal this season.
Elsewhere in Techiman, Dreams FC gave Eleven Wonders the shock of their lives as they recorded a 1-0 win through Suleman Mohammed’s strike.
Meanwhile, In Sogakope Wafa added to Ebusua Dwarfs’ woes with a 2-0 home win. Goals from Eric Asomani and youngster Daniel Owusu did the damage for the Academy Boys.
In Berekum, Chelsea and Liberty Professionals shared the spoils goalless while Elmina Sharks also dropped points after drawing 1-1 with Karela United.
