King Faisal 1-0 Elmina Sharks: Osman Ibrahim’s goal sends Inshallah Boys to top of GPL log

The Inshallah Boys have leapfrogged Aduana Stars and their city rivals to take custody of the first position for the first time this season

King Faisal defeated Elmina Sharks 1-0 on matchday seven of Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.

After a heated early exchanges where chances became premium for both sides, it was Faisal who had the first shot on goal through Zubairu Ibrahim by the tenth minute.

Faisal finally had their tails in front after Osman Ibrahim shot them ahead in the game by the 27th minute after a nice build up.

After the break, Sharks threatened Faisal’s goalkeeper Frank Boateng when Nii Tetteh and Samuel Arthur combined to set up Michelle Sarpong but his last ditch effort was saved.

On the 58th minute, Faisal thought they had doubled their lead after Mawuko Wayo rounded goalkeeper Lord Martey but he was later ruled offside.

Three minutes later, Wadudu Yakubu saw his long range shot saved by Martey as Faisal kept on pressing for another goal.

Enoch Aglenyo was presented with the best of opportunities in the half for Sharks to equalise but the striker surprisingly fluffed the chance.

Sharks finally had the ball at the back of the net on the 86th minute after Justice Mensah’s effort beat goalkeeper Boateng. However, referee Ben Kwame Sefah insisted that there was a foul in the build up on the goalkeeper.

Faisal have now moved top of the log with 16 points, two points above Aduana Stars who also defeated Great Olympics on Saturday.

The Ogya Boys have gone top of the league log for the first time this season despite a slow start to the campaign

Aduana Stars defeated Great Olympics 1-0 on matchday seven of Ghana Premier League at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park in Dormaa Ahenkro on Saturday.

After failing to pick a win in their opening two games, including a shocking defeat at home against King Faisal, Aduana have since returned to winning ways.

Aduana coach Joseph Asare Bediako maintained the squad that defeated WAFA last weekend with Bright Agyei and Emmanuel Gyamfi leading the pack.

After three minutes, Aduana went ahead thanks to Agyei’s goal. The forward headed in a powerful cross from Abass Mohammed.

Gyamfi came close to double the lead ten minutes later but his shot was blocked.

After the break, Great Olympics had several half chances but their forwards failed to make it count.

Aduana have now leapfrog Asante Kotoko to top the log with 14 points, one point above the Porcupine Warriors.

Kotoko’s game against Hearts of Oak have been postponed due to the latter’s participation in Caf Confederation Cup.

Asante Kotoko have finally taken custody of their new bus after the club’s management team met all the requirements needed.

The Porcupine Warriors have had issues with the bus they use for their away games and the club’s chief executive officer Nana Yaw Amponsah promised that they will purchase a new bus before the end of the year.

Reports were rife earlier this week that Kotoko had taken a Ghç1.3 million loan from an unnamed bank to purchase a new bus since the one the players currently use is not in a good shape.

Kotoko currently top the league log with 13 points despite losing the Kumasi derby against King Faisal last weekend.

Augustine Okrah upbeat ahead of first-ever game on Sefwi-land against Gold Stars in Bibiani

The Hunters superstar is hoping for a positive outcome against the Premier League debutants at the Dun’s Park on Sunday

Bechem United forward Augustine Okrah says they are set for the Ghana Premier League challenge against debutants Bibiani Gold Stars at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani on Sunday.

The Hunters have enjoyed a perfect start to the campaign as they are currently sitting third on the log after five games. Their last game ended in a goalless draw against another debutants Accra Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium last weekend.

Okrah, who has netted three times and provided one assist so far this season, believes the people of Sefwi land will enjoy the game. He has also urged his teammates to remain focused in order to ‘get something out’ of the upcoming game.


“We’re going to the Sefwi land to play Gold Stars with joy and hope to return with good results,” Okrah posted on Twitter.

“I’m excited that I’ll be having the opportunity to play in front of the good people of Sefwi for the first time in my career and I believe they will enjoy.

Kotoko captain Ganiu, Richard Ofori and three others dropped by Ghana coach ahead of 2021 Afcon -Reports

The Black Stars gaffer is reported to have dropped the Porcupine Warriors centre-back from his plans ahead of the Afcon

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has reportedly dropped Asante Kotoko captain Abdul Ganiu Ismail from his provisional squad ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations holding in Cameroon.

With the tournament barely 29 days away, Milovan is expected to officially submit his provisional 30-man squad to Ghana Football Association for scrutiny before an official announcement is made.

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori, who is currently recuperating from an injury he sustained against South Africa in the World Cup qualifiers, is expected to miss the list.

The technical team believes Swindon Town goalkeeper Jojo Wollacot, Richard Attah and Lawrence Ati-Zigi as well as Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Razak Abalora can do the work in his absence.

Also, Reading defender Andy Yiadom is expected to be dropped from the squad since Milovan believes he is an average player. The Serbian believes Leicester City defender Daniel Amartey can fill the void with assistance from Dreams FC youngster Philimon Baffour.

Former Asokwa Deportivo striker Joel Fameye who is currently plying his trade with FC Orenburg in Russia, will likely be snubbed as Milovan isn’t enthused about his style of play.

Meanwhile, Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu has been added to the squad as Milovan deems him a perfect player to pair Strasbourg defender Alexander Djiku.

Spezia Calcio midfielder Emmanuel Gyasi is expected to be given the opportunity to represent Ghana once again after missing out in all the games since Milovan took over from C.K Akonnor two months ago.

Due to COVID-19, Caf has given each participating country the opportunity to present 28 players for the tournament instead of 23.

The Black Stars, who have been paired with Morocco, Gabon and Comoros Island in Group C, are hoping to improve on their performance in the competition since they were eliminated in the round of 16 by Tunisia in the 2019 edition held in Egypt.

“The Black Stars of Ghana will open camp in Doha, Qatar on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 ahead of the 33rd edition to the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations – Cameroon 2021,” a Ghana FA statement read.

“The team will be in Doha for a period of three weeks to prepare for the Tournament scheduled for Cameroon from January 9 to February 6, 2022.

“The Black Stars will play three International friendly matches in Qatar to give Coach Milovan Rajevac the opportunity to assess his squad for the Tournament.

“Ghana are expected to play a yet to named club side on Tuesday, December 28, before taking on one of the Africa Cup of Nations qualified teams on Friday, January 1, 2022 in another friendly.

“The team will wrap up their test matches against African Champions Algeria on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.

“The Black Stars will depart Doha for Yaoundé on Friday, January 7, 2022 to take on the rest of Africa at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

“Head Coach Milovan Rajevac has until Friday, December 30, 2021 to submit his final squad for the Tournament. Ghana are housed in Group in Group C with Morocco, Gabon and Comoros.

The Porcupine Warriors continued with their preparations despite having no game this weekend in the Premier League

Ten-man Asante Kotoko defeated lower division side Asekem FC 3-1 in a friendly game at the Beposo Park on Friday.

The Porcupine Warriors have had their Ghana Premier League matchday seven fixture against Hearts of Oak postponed due to the latter’s participation in the Caf Confederation Cup.

Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum Narteh paraded a squad mixed by regular faces and fringe players against Asekem with young goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim starting ahead of Razak Abalora and Kwame Baah.

Skipper Abdul Ganiu partnered Maxwell Agyemang, while Sheriff Mohammed and Imoro Ibrahim took over the right and left back role respectively.

Richard Boadu Agadas, Joseph Amoako, Richmond Lamptey and Stephen Amankonah made up the midfield while Cameroonian strikers of Mfegue Mbella Frank Thierry and Mbella Etuoga led the attack.

Lamptey opened the scoring with a long range shot on the 18th minute before Ganiu doubled Kotoko’s advantage with a header Twi minutes later.

However, Kotoko were reduced to ten men before half time after Amankonah was shown a red card due to a bad tackle.

After the break, Asekem began to make their numerical advantage count and they were awarded a penalty in the process after a Kotoko defender brought down one of the hosts strikers. Surprisingly, the spot kick was missed.

Asekem finally found an opening in Kotoko’s defence and pulled one back against the run of play.

On 65th minute, Asekem were also reduced to ten men after their goalkeeper handled the ball outside the penalty area and they were forced to make a substitution as the reserve goalkeeper replaced one of their outfield players.

Substitute Solomon Sarfo Taylor capitalised on a poor defending by Asekem by the 71st minute and made it 3-1.

Kotoko will continue with their preparations at Adako Jachie before they host Real Tamale United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on December 19.

Ahead of the 2021 Afcon to staged in Cameroon, prostitutes in the country have increased their prices as they are ready to serve those who will patronize them in a different level

Prostitutes in Cameroon have revealed an updated price ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in January, 2022.

The tournament which was originally scheduled to take place between last June and July in five cities and six stadiums, will now be held in January of next year with kick off slated for January 9 and ends on February 6.

Although, supporters and stakeholders who travelled to the last Afcon staged in Egypt could not find enjoyment since prostitution is prohibited by Islamic religion, Cameroon is quite different.

The laws of the country prohibits prostitution but it is done in the underground world with huge market.

Ghana are set to face the Atlas Lions for the second time in six months after the two teams were pitted against each other in Group C which also contains Gabon and Comoros.

It will be their first encounter since Morocco registered a 1-0 victory in an international friendly in Rabat in June.

The draw for the final tournament, which runs between January 9 and February 6 next year, was conducted in the Cameroonian capital of Yaounde on Tuesday evening.

Ghana, who are on the search for their fifth tournament title and their first since 1982, will face Morocco in their opening game at Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde.

The Black Stars will then switch attention to face a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang-led Gabon in their second game on January 14 before wrapping up their group stage assignment with a tie against the Comoros Island who are set to make their debut appearance at the tournament.

Milovan Rajevac’s outfit will hope to finish among the top two in their group or among the best four third-placed sides to make it to the knock-out stage of the competition.

At Afcon, Ghana and Morocco last faced each other at the 2008 tournament where the former, hosts of the tournament, registered a 2-0 victory in their last group game, courtesy of goals from Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari.

The Black Stars’ last fixture against Gabon at the continental showpiece ended in a 1-0 victory at the 1989 championship.

The West Africans and Comoros have never met at Afcon but their last encounter in any competition came in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers where Mubarak Wakaso and Jordan Ayew scored to ensure passage from the preliminary round to the group stage of the series.

At Cameroon next year, Ghana will hope to make amends for a disappointing outing in Egypt in 2019 where they exited the competition at the Round of 16. It was their first time since 2006 failing to reach the quarter-final of the tournament.

Asante Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah and others meet StarTimes to settle differences

The Porcupine Warriors top hierarchy held a meeting with the Ghana Premier League television right owners on Thursday to thrash out several issues

Management members of Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko held a successful meeting with the top hierarchy of Chinese television company StarTimes on Thursday in Accra.

The meeting became necessary after a section of Kotoko fans accused StarTimes of bias way of telecasting their games.
Some of the supporters believe that StarTimes deliberately prevent viewers from watching replays of events that favour their club but they are quick to repeat those that go against them.

Some supporters have even accused StarTimes of conniving with referee Nunoo who officiated the Kumasi derby against King Faisal as he overturned a penalty he awarded Kotoko.

Reports were initially rife that fourth referee Daniel Laryea was prompted by some crew members of StarTimes that he should advise the centre referee to rescind his decision to award Kotoko a penalty since it was a wrong call.

Moreover, Kotoko chief executive officer Nana Yaw Amponsah has constantly argued that it is inappropriate for all clubs to equally share the television money since games involving Kotoko and Hearts are always televised live.

“Management today held a special dialogue meeting with the management of StarTimes, official broadcasters of the #GPL, to discuss matters of mutual concern,” a club statement read.

“Both parties laid bare their concerns and resolved to work harmoniously for the betterment of Ghana football.

“We entreat all our fans to remain calm and be rest assured that Management will always strive for the best interest of our dear club,” the statement added.

Kotoko’s matchday seven fixture against bitter rivals Hearts of Oak which would have been played over the weekend has been postponed since the latter is yet to arrive in the country after participating in the Caf Confederation Cup playoffs.

Hearts were thrashed 4-0 by Algerian side JS Saoura and got eliminated 4-2 on aggregate.

Breaking News: Accra Lions coach Rainer Kraft resigns after two years

The top-flight’s debutants coach has left his position and he is now heading back to Germany

Accra Lions head coach Rainer Kraft has vacated his position on Wednesday after two years in charge, AshesGyamera.com can confirm.

The 59-year-old joined the Lions in 2019 and guided them to qualify to play in Ghana Premier League for the first time.

Although, the club has enjoyed a good start in the league, Kraft has vacated his position citing personal reasons.

“Rainer Kraft had a very successful spell in his two years as Head Coach of Accra Lions Football Club that was crowned with winning the Division One Championship and gaining the Ghana Premier League promotion this year,” Nana Obiri Yeboah, CEO of Accra Lions said.

“We are very grateful for everything he has done to develop our club forward and wish him well for the future.”

Kraft played 124 games with Lions and won 83, lost 16 and shared the spoils in 25.

Lions scored 266 goals in the process and conceded 115 goals.
