The Inshallah Boys proved that they are a team to watch as they silenced their city rivals in the Kumasi derby

King Faisal defied the odds to defeat Asante Kotoko 3-2 in the Kumasi derby of Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Zubeiru Ibrahim’s tow goals in the first half

King Faisal had their noses in front very early in the game after Zubeiru Ibrahim calmly slotted in his effort by the third minute following a defensive mixup by Kotoko defenders.

The youngster made it 2-0 by the 23rd minute to shut down the vociferous home supporters. Zubeiru latched on to a pass from Mawuli and sent his last ditch effort beyond goalkeeper Razak Abalora.

Kotoko were awarded a penalty by the 36th minute but referee Julian Nunu rescinded the decision after he consulted fourth referee Daniel Laryea. The referee initially adjudged that a King Faisal defender had handled the ball but replays suggested it was rather against his body.

After the break, Kotoko quickly pulled one back through Cameroonian striker George Mfegue Rodrigues. The 23-year-old benefited from a goal line melee and brought Kotoko back into the game.

Although, Kotoko had several chances and were showing signs of a side that could pull even, Zubeiru silenced them once again.

The young striker scored a stunning hat-trick against the run of play by the 68th minute.

Although, Mfegue pulled one back once again, Kotoko could not find another breach to score the all-important goal and secure a point.
