The midfielder has heaped praise on the former Black Stars captain following his decision to return to local football and he has revealed his ambition to play also play for Kotoko

Ghana midfielder Afriyie Acquah has lauded Asamoah Gyan’s decision to return to Ghana Premier League after almost two decades since he left the shores to ply his trade in Europe.

Gyan signed a deal with Legon Cities FC worth close to $1 million and Acquah, who now plays with Turkish Super Lig side Yeni Malatyaspor, believes it is possible for him to replicate that feat in the future.

“I was born into a family that support B.A United but if I’m ready to return to play in Ghana and they are not in the top-flight, I will rather join Asante Kotoko since they are the club I also long and dream to feature for before retiring,” Acquah told SportsWorldGhana.com.

“When I heard that Gyan has joined the Ghana Premier League again I was so happy for him because I think this is going to help make the league more interesting. When you look at the career of Gyan he has done amazing things and he comes to the league with a huge personality.”

“This is also my dream. One day, when I feel that I have had enough of European football I want to come and play in Ghana Premier League and have a feel of it before I call time on my football career.

“As you know I never played in the Ghana Premier League or even the Division One and so it is my dream to also do what Gyan has done in the future. This is  my dream and I congratulate Gyan and wish him all the best at his new club,” he added.

Acquah was handed a late call up by C.K Akonnor ahead of the Black Stars’ double header against Sudan in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
